Hello got the same engine, 2006 BMW 750LI, with code P0024 - B Camshaft position timing over-advanced or system performance bank 2. I know bank 2 is driver's side. There are 2 vano solenoids, intake and exhaust. I verified that the solenoids are good. If solenoids are verified as good, what would be my next step to do? Would it be what exactly you're doing here? Thanks.
My 2005 745li is throwing a code for timing over advanced on bank 2...can you please tell me if it's timing chain...or the timing chain guides or vvt solenoid related or what???????
hello eco, so first of all, should i put a "spring" into the cylinder, then crank the engine to see piston go to his TDC? or the marks on the main wheel (those, where you put the special tool) tells me, that the piston reached his TDC. I hope you understood me, im from Poland. By the way, great video, im doing valve stem seals, its possible thanks to your videos on N62.
hi i have a 645ci 2004 with similar n62 so im doing the timing and set it and spin twice and they are lined up both sides but when try and turn it on it starys up first try then i shut off and it doesnt turn on second time i check timing on tdc and the cams positions are off please lmk what i can do thanks in advance
I was just checking out passenger side exhaust and when I get it to where the timing to can go on camshaft to check flatness. I noticed cylinder 3 valves are compressed is that normal?
Did valve stem seals and retimed, getting codes for tooth offset now, doea it matter which way you install the cam gears or are they 360° installable, timing frames fit by the way
@@radianm6 its timed but I was asking about the cam gears, are there marking for alignment on them, all timing videos just place them on and there doesn't seem to be a specific angle
@@TannerShean I just did the same job (valve guide seals) put the engine back together. I have misfires on cylinder 1, 2,3 and 4. I'm about to atke it apart again to check timing. So frustrating!
If you diy, do both as you’re in there, little bit more time consuming but not that much more money. If you don’t diy, I’d do the chain first, seals aren’t as much as a critical problem
@@ecologicaltime now when I time the exhaust is it normal for it to be compressing any valves down? I noticed also like It seems it doesn't want to to stay put timing the exhaust like it will spring back to a different spot with timing tool off-thank you in advance
I purchased a 07 X5 4.8i with error code P0022 and P0018. Followed your instructions here I adjusted the timing, but the codes come back after driving a few times. I can delete it but they come back. I noticed the timing marks on my camshafts are shown exactly like as 1:06, not perfectly aligned, after adjusting, and they were like that when I got the car. Both banks are like that, but only bank2 is giving the error. The car drives ok now, and the previous owner said the same, drives ok witht the error. So I guess I didn't fix the root cause of this timing issue. Can you advise what shall I do next?
I swapped VVT Motor, VVT solenoid, Camshaft Position Sensor, from bank2 to bank1, the same error stays. So the problem is definitely locally in bank2. I can hear the engine light comes out when the engine suddenly have a "huh" fuzzy sound, like a sudden speed change of something.
I did have some damaged teeth in bank2 eccentric shaft, but I saw most of forum posts say we can live with that. The previous mechanic that needs to be replaced, but it's too expensive. Not sure if that's the root cause of this P0022. I did some a post said replacing eccentric shaft sensor fixed his P0022.
I'm not gonna try it but I still believe you could just turn the phasers against the stop while the nut is loose enough to move them without moving the cam and then tighten it down. That's assuming the cams are in the right spot. Even go so far as to scribe a mark on the cam and cover to check alignment after a couple rotations. Those tools are just for making sure the cams are in the correct place with the phasers against their stops. Happens when you rotate it twice due to the resistance of the cam turning and fighting valve spring pressure. Phasers turn to the stop then the cams start turning.
He’s inserting a pin to lock the crank pulley and harmonic balancer. On the block there’s a whole for you to slide the pin through both the harmonic balancer and block to let you know it’s TDC.
