Weight Painting is an essential step to make your character ready for animations.
In this video: • Rigify Made Easy: Begi...
I explained how to rig your character using Rigify, In this video, I show you how to correct the Rigify weight paintings or in general weight paint your character and how to fix some common weight painting problems.
weight painting is a skill that you can only learn with experience and experiment there is not a set in stone rule for every situation that can be explained and each problem needs it's own expertise.
But in this video I teach you how to start weight painting and some problems that can be fixed with easy weight painting.
As always make sure to ask any question you have in the comment section.

I just learned you can put your brush to subtract then paint black when blue areas still are moving.

The problem is when they are moving it's not 100% blue there is a little bit lighter blue somewhere that you can see, but ultimately it's also a solution.

you need to first select the skeleton then hold SHIFT and select the model, the order is important this way the active selection is the model, after that if you go to weight paint and hold CTRL and click any bone on the skeleton, you should see the weight paint for that specific bone. Another method is to select only the model, go to weight paint, and then in the right panel, in the Data tab (the green triangle) if you look at the vertex groups you will see the name of every bone, if you click on any of them as long as you are in weight paint mode, you will see the assigned weight paint. Remember that the weight paints only will be shown if you weight-painted the model before, so make sure to at least automatically weight paint your model before trying to fix them, otherwise you need to paint them from scratch.

@@mck3D 1st method u said is what I did initially and second one didn't work

I assume when you select the vertex group from the data panel you don't see any color or you see a pink color, the reason is that in the vertex groups other than the main bones that are responsible for skinning (weight painting), you will see the IK bones there too, and if you select the IK bones no color will be shown to you and that's because the IK bones are set to control the FK bones and the FK bones are weight painted, I hope I was able to help you instead of confusing you with more words.

@@mck3D so I should select the FK bones instead of the IK bones in the Data Panel?
@mck3D
@mck3D 6 месяцев назад
Correct, the IK bones are weight-painted directly, please check that and let me know if you still had any issues, we will fix that.

Hey, I was curious, Do you think what it cause the asymmetry weigh bones? I already turn “Symmetry” on but why is the weight on left and right not matched even thought I have symmetry on. Does it have with transform or something?
@mck3D

sometimes at some point in modeling/sculpting, we break symmetry unconsciously, If you are sure that your model has good symmetry it's probably due to some transform issues, either your model is not in the center of the origin/world and the pivot is set to local, or sometimes you need to apply the transform before doing these stuff.
