I show you the process on how we dock a super yacht in Monaco.
Captain Tristan Mortlock is an award winning Super Yacht Captain with over 15 years experience. He started his yachting career in his teens and now runs one of the most successful charter yachts in the world. Tristan is currently serving on Motor Yacht AWOL, a San Lorenzo SD122, built in 2009. AWOL is a multi award winning yacht and her crew take a lot of pride in their work.
Captain's Vlog is about educating interested parties on what happens onboard a Mega Yacht, Super Yacht and the yachting industry. To share the life of yacht crew and life at sea. The BIG shipyard refits, paint jobs and marine engineering works. To travel some of the worlds most beautiful destinations.
The first owner of the Super Yacht AWOL was non other than Mr Piero Ferrari himself. The wheel house still contains the original Captain's chair with the Ferrari emblem.

What nonsense, the way to dock in Monaco is to approach at speed, blasting your mega yacht horn, and then with your vessel go hard to port and use all the peasants smaller boat as padding to ease your Mega Yacht into position.

As a former military deck officer we'd have over a dozen men on the bridge doing what you do by yourself, and our process involved a lot of yelling and other nonsense, it took six men to handle the anchor, the list goes on. I am impressed, while your ship is a little smaller, not by much, your main engine hp is about the same but we had auxiliary turbines (45k hp) that gave us 32 knots burning 20k liters/hour.

Much experience proves to all it cannot be replaced. Good job by you and the crew. BTW, AWOL is a toy compared to many you passed or at berth. What would be nice when you can is to show us when you put the anchors out after berthing.

No anchors used since this berth used fixed lines. Look at the neighbouring vessels

I don't know why this annoys me..Capt.Tristan says this is a "Super yacht"...This is NOT a super yacht!!..."AWOL" is 122 feet long.You could actually put this boat on the bow of "Octopus" and still have 292 feet left!!..I'm assuming the "super yacht" in the title is click bait(views)...Don't get me wrong,..I really enjoy the vids and the experiences you upload!...please keep up the awesome,content!...But,it's just a "yacht" you can't even land a copter on it!...no submarine...no in-door pool...Title it... "HOW TO DOCK A 122 foot YACHT IN MONACO"...be honest about it!

Never understood why they dont give you a berthing station towards stern but on upper deck so you have full visibility when docking like that. Good comms between you and your crew though.

6:00 The Yacht there in the upper left-hand corner of the video is Lionheart, a 90m built by Benetti Yachts and launched in early 2016. She has a cruise speed of 15knots and is said to have cost about $150,000,000 US to build.

I love the "How to" title to this video, just like "How to sharpen a knife", "How to wash a window", "How to thread a needle... with a 37' super yacht". Your videos are really fascinating. I have so many questions... Does your starboard tach not work at that wing station? If the weather is less than spectacular, i.e. pouring down rain, do you just gear-up and still use the wing station? Is it the common courtesy of the vessels on either side of you to put out their fenders? I see that you don't have any out so as to not get tangled with the other yachts. Did you grow up on boats and develop your interest in yachting as a career? How long did it take for you to earn your four stripes? ***EDIT*** I just found the five episodes, "How I Became An Award Winning Super Yacht Captain", which I shall watch intently! Thanx!

Captain Tristan Mortlock : With the utmost respect I do appreciate that you take the time to make these videos, and at the same time I want you to know that I among others live out our dreams vicariously through these types of videos and yours is the most enjoyable to me. That being said, I wish you would think out loud all the time , let me rephrase that - THINK OUT LOUD ( unless its unsafe to do so ) don't want to confuse the crew. As for myself you can't be detailed enough in every aspect of the operation this type of yacht, although mine would only be around 80 feet. Keep these fantastic videos coming.

Monaco and most med ports have ground lines anchored in the bottom, usually the port staff will hand them to them to secure the bow.

Nobody is using anchor there. Fixed mooring lines.

Hello, Why you didn't use portable (wireless) docking panel (like the one used by crane operates) for yacht ducking? So you can be on top-of-action when needed? Plan such upgrade After COVID How about such idea, it may add a new prospective to super yacht industry Good luck

Hello captain, hope all is well. I do have a few questions ... First how do you know where the birth is before the little boat comes, do you know from experience where the general area is? Second thing I do not see, where is the chaseboat? Is it allready docked? Love to watch these video's. Everything I ask myself in a video is explained as if you heard me .... thank you for your kindness and great personality !

It's too bad you cant have a drone up in the air giving feed of your distances and line up for docking.. And if the winds are high.. at least have cameras angled at your blind spots for maneuvering showing on monitors in the bridge... You still have deck crew calling out distances etc.. but this might help in aiding you with more difficult spots.. Great videos Tristan... love learning more about all aspects of super yachting and seeing how jobs and procedures are done with you and the crew.. Keep up the awesome work..👍

Oh ! I bet you could use one finger to maneuver this boat. Such an easy job you have. Easy as cake. One finger you use to direct the crew. One finger you hold up while driving the small boat as to announce , I am the "king of the world" driving this here boat. And then wait a minute, over in the corner of your eye, you notice a small dingy from the boat next to you and your neighbor, immediately that one pointing finger of yours , that signifies your the God, you immediately change your pointing finger to your middle finger and you Shout Fu*k you to the guy in the puny dingy. Get out of my way , I am king of the world

Hi, really enjoy enjoy the vids thank you. On this one why did you not use the port side control booth when you needed sighting of the port side parking? Reversing blind and entrusting the major decisions to an out of site controller to me even though at very low speed meant you wernt in absolute control of where you were going, miss communications is always one of the causes of missunderstandings and accidents. Shouldnt all major decisions and movements be under the control of the controller/driver with information on less serious information inputs around the boat as additional safety?? Thanks again.

Love the re-fit and docking vids as well as day to day stuff. Very informative. I find it hard enough to park a truck on a bay in the wind, would be a lot worse if the road also moved like the sea does nice job.

Nice job - bet that gets the heart rate up a tad? I would have thought a vessel that size would have controls aft or at least a 100 dollar reversing camera, for piece of mind and situational awareness? I know the crew are good but it just seems like common sense

Not enough details, i want to know all details, do you get prior permissions?, how you find docking space?, how you requst the assistance of pilot boat , what is the docking cost, how the electronics assist you to dock, port speed lows, and other lows while entering a port/docking
