I usually just wear sunscreen on a daily basis and I’ve been double cleansing with the Cerave foaming cleanser first and the cerave hydrating cleanser after. I’ve found it’s been working really well for me
Hey Melissa!...I'm so glad that finally someone talked about this!...I have fungal acne prone skin bcoz of which any cleansing oil or balm triggers My skin...I'm glad that I can use bha as my cleanser to remove my sunscreen....I just had a simple doubt that I use vit c alpha arbutin and tranexamic acid in my night skincare routine....so can I use a bha cleanser and then my regular cleanser and then the serum which contains vit c tranexamic acid and alpha arbutin
Yes, generally, that is okay. BUT if you used mineral sunscreen with heavy zinc oxide filters, you won't get it off with your SA/Regular cleansers. But apart from that, it just works fine; yes, I am not sure why no more people are talking about this; maybe it is not the time yet 😉 But I would use the regular cleanser before the SA cleanser, or if the SA cleanser takes it off just that one. It depends a bit on the formulation you have. So just test it and see what works best 🙂
Wow! I couldn’t take my eyes of you. Your new hair style and the colour is gorgeous. My I ask what the colour of your hair is please. Also I love your makeup too🤗
It depends. Have you tried The Ordinary Mineral Sunscreen? Yes, but 90% of the time, you do not need an additional cleanser. But when doing it often, the balm or oil cleanser is a great alternative not to dry out or irritate the skin.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet no, But every oil cleanser I’ve used has broken me out terribly so I asked my dermatologist was it necessary and she said no
@@juhnetmickerdy Some sunscreens cannot be removed with regular cleansers, I am not sure why that is the case, but it just does not work. And usually, these are heavy mineral sunscreens, so when using it on top, it just stays there, smearing around. But they are very rare, and I do not like to use them since they most often feel very sticky or have a terrible white cast. So maybe she/he did not know about them or just avoids them at all costs 😅 What balm/oil cleansers have you used in the past that broke you out 🤔
@@vaneshajagroo Wet cleansing can be more effective at removing makeup and oil buildup; however, it can also be more drying, especially if you use hot water. On the other hand, dry cleansing is gentler and can be a good option for those with dry or sensitive skin. Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal needs and desired results. Generally speaking, wet cleansing with lukewarm water is the best option if you do not have sensitive skin.
Hi Melissa..I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I'm very glad I did..even if I don't know the language and the videos aren't always subtitled in Italian..so I try to understand. I don't understand one thing about sunscreens and double cleansing. And I apologize if you find yourself repeating the same things. by my choice I absolutely don't want to do the classic double cleanser (oil + foam) because I'm convinced it damages the skin.. I don't use cloths or brushes for my face or even mechanical scrubs.. I prefer to use a single cleanser 2 times. Now I'm using the A-derma cleansing milk but as soon as I finish I go back with Cerave. Is it possible that you can't remove the mineral sunscreens without doing the double cleanser?? I was thinking of buying an oily cleanser to use alone in the evening ..but without having it followed by a foamer I don't think it's good..as sunscreen I usually use roche posay or Avene..for me the important thing is that they don't contain certain ingredients such as denatured alcohol fragrances and essential oils..to name a few..should I therefore avoid all mineral filters such as zinc oxide? It would be too difficult .. thank you very much if you want to answer me. I hope google translate did its job!! Thanks bye
Zinc Oxide sunscreen is not removable from the skin with a "regular" cleanser. Even though some people are saying this, but I think they never used a heavy mineral-based sunscreen. So, therefore, you must use an Oil/Balm cleanser to breaking it down properly. The best I have tried so far for this is The Ordinary Squalane cleanser; it removes everything and is still very gentle. Still, another balm cleanser may also work well. Now mineral sunscreens are better because they are less likely to be absorbed by living skin cells. And are better for sensitive skin. A good example is NIOD survival 30, the best mineral sunscreen I have tried, and also always recommend. (Not very known but you will like it for sure!) So you would apply the sunscreen in the morning and remove it in the evening with The Ordinary Squalane cleanser. thank you very much for the clarification and for the prompt reply..it was really very useful.I think that for evening cleansing I will use Cerave's oily cleanser..maybe I will pass it twice just to be safe..the important thing for me is to avoid the classic double cleansing with oil and foam to follow. Thank you
Love your new hair colour! I have around 20 active acnes on my face and recently started using cerave 2% SA cleanser. My question is that, is it safe to use twice a day? Currently I'm using only once a day. Also is it safe to use around eye area?
Yes! Do not use it around your eye area but it is safe to use twice a day. Leave it on for three minutes and rinse! Just be sure to follow it up with a hydrating serum or hydrating toner and of course lock in that hydration with a pea size amount of moisturizer.
I think leaving it on for that long is not needed, and it does more harm than good when doing it ongoing. You can leave it on the skin from time to time for a couple of minutes (with messaging), but when doing that daily morning and evening, it dries out the skin, and then you need to use a moisturizer which often leads to more problems (in fact every time I do that I get more breakouts) From my experience, for combination to oily t-zone skin, it worked best when using it only for 30 seconds to one minute and followed with an essence or a hydrating toner and skipping the "moisturizer."
Yes, if that works for you, keep using those products. Usually, mineral sunscreen is difficult to remove with just a regular cleanser. This is where using an oil or balm cleanser on its own or doing a double cleanse works the best.
Hey! Can I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser twice to remove my sunscreen? My morning routine includes a squalane moisturizer and Eucerin Oil Control Sun Gel-Cream, and I use 0.1% Differin gel every other night. My skin is dry and sensitive, so I’m wondering if double cleansing with the same gentle cleanser is enough, or should I consider adding micellar water or something else?
If you tolerate that cleanser well, yes you can use it twice or use a soft washcloth in between to help remove the cleanser and sunscreen more effectively :)
Hi Melissa thank you for all your videos very helpful! I have a question I just recently had started a skin care routine I started using the Granactive retinoid 2% Emulsion I am almost finished with the bottle I’ve seen great results I was just wondering if you think I should move up with a stronger one ? Honestly I think it’s doing its job My fine lines are disappearing and my face is a lot smoother and even. Just wanted your take on it?
From my experience, it causes more issues. And the higher strength may not be needed to achieve the same results; I am constantly questioning the high amounts of it and if the skin can really use it! But there is not much information I could find, so it is a "great experiment". So I can't give you good advice here. But if you are happy with the results, I do not see any reason to change it.
Not sure about this, and I did not try it. But based on how they work, I wouldn't use them in the same routine because it may lead to skin irritation or sensitivity over the long haul. So maybe use the BHA in the morning and the retinoid in the evening.
Have a look at an exfoliant (BHA - Salicylic Acid for Combo-Oily Skin or an AHA - Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid for Dry to Normal Skin) and a brightening serum like Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Alpha Arbutin or Tranexamic Acid.
@@frozengamer3030 I just have had a look, and it looks definitely interesting! But for now, I am testing NIOD and some Korean/Japanese brands and a couple of Inkey List products. But it may be another brand to look at in the near future. Thanks!
Hi! I use the bondi sands fragrance free sunscreen lotion spf 50, and I double cleanse with the same cleanser twice. First time round, I cleanse without dampening the skin, working in the cleanser on dry skin and then rinsing. I follow up by cleansing a second time as normal with the same cleanser. My cleanser is the face facts hydrating ceramides cleanser and I only use oils/balms when I wear make up. Is double cleansing with the same cleanser suitable for this sunscreen (Bondi Sands) or should I start using and oil/balm in the first stage of cleansing? (P.s. the sunscreen is water based but also water resistant)
Hey! :) I haven't tried the cleanser nor the sunscreen you're using, so I'm not sure how well your cleanser can break down your sunscreen as well as how easily your sunscreen comes off the skin, which are two important factors to consider if double cleansing with an oil or balm cleanser is needed. Does using your cleanser twice helps to remove your sunscreen? If yes, and you like that method, keep doing it like that. If not, I recommend using an oil or balm cleanser first and then following with your usual cleanser afterward :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks for your reply! I do feel like my skin is clean after this method, but began to worry after reading somewhere that water resistant sunscreens usually adhere more to the skin. I'll continue to cleanse as I usually do. Again thanks for your response! :)

Hello Francine, since you are using these medical treatments, I recommend asking your dermatologist/doctor so that you will get the best advice specifically for your needs.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet the explanation part could have been cut off short...the basics like rinsing face with normal water could have been just directly without elaborating the techniques much
@@pragyasingh7873 Do you mean just washing the face without explanation? What would be the point? An explanation is needed to follow the process along 🤔 or what do you mean?
