If you get the "serial number" error, it's because your iphone was bought after iOS 5 release. You can't downgrade to iOS 4 but iOS 5 and up will work perfectly
Most people don't have their old phones on hand, let alone save SHSH blobs every single time an update releases. Tools like this make the process accessible for everyone without having to have owned the phone since launch.
@@superstar64 that’s true, luckily on iDevices this old you can simply dump onboard blobs if you had the foresight to decide against updating it to begin with. The biggest benefit is not having to go through as many steps, functional only on the command line via macOS or Linux whereas iFaith work fine on Windows and can make a personalized IPSW easily restorable on an age-appropriate version of iTunes (or in the case of redsn0w, even perform the restoration directly through its own GUI).
Everything was going well until the end. I get an error saying the device serial number could not be retrieved. Can't continue how do I fix that error?
@@iClassicI‘m currently trying to find a solution on how to unlock a passcode protected iPhone 5. It looks like it has iOS 7 too and the only software that can find out the code would be „Elcomsoft iOS Forensic Toolkit“… which costs about 2 thousand dollars o_o. What would you do?
@@cynthia0005 i meant fully untethered. Yeah you can do a tethered downgrade but you’d need to plug it in to your pc everytime you reboot or the device dies
I did the whole process, it kinda worked, but the screen is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen, but it won’t show the slider. Any tips on how to fix it? Ty

Guys there is easier way to do this You have to have a mac os 10.12 higher recommend 10.15 ( also compatible with linux but not really good) and have legacy ios kit that way easier go watch youtube video on how to do it and you can downgrade now to iOS 4.0 to iOS 7.1.1 although iOS 4.2.1 is not functional but yeah

This is cool, I had an old 4 lying around so I wanted to try this only to find out mine is the 3,2 model - and this tutorial is specific for 3,1 and my MacBook is running the latest Monterey too so it’s a bummer. I was still able to find a way to do a tethered downgrade to iOS 6.1.3 with redsn0w.
At the last step, where it goes into the white screen, the terminal window finishes the extracting stuff, but gives me an error saying “could not receive device serial number. Can’t continue.” and the iPhone stays at the white screen.
I restore my iPhone 4 back to iOS 7 via itunes and now I realize that it got stuck in a recovery mode loop (my bad 😞). I forgot to watch the end of the video! Anyways, dora2ios's powdersnow website is already gone it displays 404 error. Where can I find the files needed for the recovery mode loop fix? someone help me pls 🥺

Can’t continue, and my iPhone is stuck in a white screen, Doesn’t work,I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here, maybe because my 16GB iPhone 4 was brought after the iOS 6 release, I can’t downgrade to iOS 4 but iOS 6 and up only worked for me so I got so mad and planned to get another iPhone 4 and try the downgrade tool again with the different iPhone 4
I only have an iPhone 4 CDMA and I want to do this downgrade and I was wondering if it was possible to do this on an iCloud locked iPhone 4 just because it’s cheaper and somehow those are the best looking phones. Thanks!
@@resolvanlemmy as explained in the video, the custom iOS 4 .ISPW file is a modified version of the iOS 7 one. So while this is genuine iOS 4, some iOS 7 files are still here and there and these are not avoidable unless you have shsh blobs for the actual iOS 4 build. Nobody asked me but you're welcome

I keep getting a bus error when I try to get it to create the custom IPSW at about 6:08. Is there any known reason why that might be happening? My steps have been identical to the video until now.
