Well done mate, explains it clearly. I'm draining my HWC down to replace the washer on the flow which I had to make as I couldn't buy one anywhere, & it's taking ages so I'll try the siphon, as you suggest, I've finished my coffee break now so, back to it!
Buy a £10 self priming pump and two pieces of those. I emptied the dregs of my header tanks and tank when removing the system boiler in my house. These wee pumps are fast and they pump a lot of the sludge out.
@@con6951 Laser 2375 Drill Pump. I bought it on Amazon but it now says 12.75 I got it for 9.90 about 4 weeks back. You drive it off a drill. Garden hose fits it. It's a wee gem. It is self priming so no choking on vimto.
Great video. I need to change our kitchen tap but can’t find a gate valve on the hot water supply. I can turn the mains off in the road. Can I simply let the hot run until the tank empties so I can remove and replace the tap?
Welcome to the world where gate valves snap when you shut them..or when you try to reopen them again. When I was apprenticing I saw a non DZR drain off dissolve when it was touched.....oh boy.
Last cylinder I replaced due to a blown cylinder coil, drain off was non existent so cut a hole in top of tank and dropped a hosepipe straight in and siphoned it out and ran to drain. As was being scrapped hole didn't matter. Also took opportunity to fit a drain valve and replaced the goosed gate valve with new more reliable full bore lever ball valve
Hi, Allen great video, I’ve an immersion heater to change......problem is there is no drain off on the cold supply to the cylinder and the gate valve on the hot supply is seized open....🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ can you help please?
all hot water taps have low pressure, someone suggested one of the outlets could be clogged ( top) due to hard water buildup . shower pump does not work anymore it " cant pump" was going to do this on my own but I think Ill call a professional
Hi mate, thank you so much for the video I really like the way explain things. I just wanted to ask you if you could advise me a leak sealer product Which will seal I tiny leak at the joint cylinder nuts at the body of the cylinder it's could be one of the central heating pipe where enters the tank. Looking to without taking everything off. Thank you so ,👍👍👍
Hello, To get rid of smelly water adding bleach to the immersion heater would your remove heating element pour say half pint of bleach in tank leave for 1 hour then let it out through hot water pipes to taps drain fully and just keep filling up tank and running water till rinsed out would this be OK. I've previously had a shop bought product some sort of small blue and white balls put in system but haven't made any change to the hot water smell. Thanks
Just purchased a flat that has this system the copper tank is empty will it fill from from the gate valve as when i open the main stop tap i can hear the main tank filling from top so will i have to open the gate valve to fill up the copper tank and then turn the switch on to make the tank coil hot thanks.
Can you just bung f and e and drain remaining heating water from the flow and return from the cyclinder. house has 4 rads above cyclinder. Rather than draining all rads from downstairs. This is when replacing cyclinder
Hi Allen, thanks for the video! I need to replace a leaky gate valve on the hot water out of my cylinder. Can I stop the water at the mains, drain, replace the tap and then just switch the water main back on? Cheers.
A month ago my my hot water is stopped working but my central heating is working. When hot water stopped working that time there was a trip and electrician said my immersion heater is faulty. I tried to set the time for hot water but still hot water supply does not work. Since then there is no hot water. I am not sure where the fault is. Thermostat? Or divert valve? Or immersion heater ? … any suggestions …
I managed to split the copper tank while trying to remove a failed immersion heater, so I had to replace the tank. The coil was fed by a coal fired back boiler that is now redundant, replaced with a gas fire, so I blanked off the coil feed pipes and tried to drain the back boiler. The water just kept running so it must be connected to the mains, no idea how this can be turned off. Any suggestions - Thanks
Hi Allen I went the job and there aren’t any valve to isolated and the Maine was jammed and had to change cylinder so I just lift bulb valve up to stop water in tank and I pushed cap in outlet storage tank to be able to change cylinder I thought it was right thing I did so I don’t know need your suggestions for next time if I face it again please thanks mate I’m just leaner as I doing my plumbing course 👍🏼💐🙂
@@AllenHart999 no I wasn’t able to turn off it from main is street coz was jammed so had to call to thames water to come and sort it out, I just capped it from inside storage tank (outlet)
"drain off valves are nightmare"... So as everyone knows it, so why there is no better solution as it should have been already, if we have open market?
Hi Allen, Great video. Just a question mate. I recently drained my central heating and my immersion heater started leaking from the top since ? I have gravity fed system with f & e tank in the loft. Your help would be appreciated
Hi Allen, I started watching your videos, because I have problem with my hetaing system/boiler. The problem has been diagnosed as faulty three way valve, which was shorting and blowing fuses. I have old gravity fed system and I am thinking about upgrade. Do you know anyone in the Leicester area, who you would recommend? If you prefer I can contact you via email/watsApp.
Hi Allen, I may possibly need to replace the cold water storage in the loft due to a leak. I can isolate the cold water tank > copper cylinder. There is also a tap on the feed to the ball cock float thing. But when I turn the tap off water still comes out the ball cock part. Is this just water pressure from the pipes going to the bathroom which are on the same feed as the ball cock. The main feed pipe forks off. 1 to the ball cock and 1 to the bathroom. Basically I just want to know if pressure from the bathroom pipe would be enough to push water back up to the ballcock pipe or is it looking like the stopcock isn't cutting the feed. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 cheers for the reply mate I've sorted it now. Basically the cold water storage tank in the loft had a 3mm split above a fixing leading out the tank to the bathroom which was previously cut and blanked off by recent plumbers doing a bathroom(the swines must of split the tank blanking the pipe off. It's a 50 year old tank probably brittle to a degree). I ended up draining the tank and enlarging the hole to cover the split if you know what I mean, and put a capped bulkhead type fitting in it which was double the diameter of the previous fitting. Blitzed around the seal of the new fitting with CT1. Thankfully it's completely sealed the tank. Appreciate the reply though mate thank you. Your channel is still my go to for plumbing solutions! Haha
And sorry mate just to add. I was wanting to know why after turning the stopcock feed to the coldwater storage tank there was still water feeding into the tank. A friend told me I should of released the pressure in the pipes turning the cold tap on in the bathroom. I hope I explained that right apologies if I didn't!🖐
