Well demonstrated and easy to follow but now I need to figure out why/how this method works to identify the positions of verticies C and D (and the correct internal angle of 108 deg at A and B). Once they are established vertex E is easily located.

be aware that this is just an aproximation construction. this is not the perfect pentagon. the angle ABD is not 108 degree it is only 107.58 and therefore only an aproximation.

I think this is incorrect. All 5 sides are of equal length, but the angles are not equal. Kind like the difference between square and rhombus. For regular pentagon, diagonal to side ratio is golden ratio. But in your drawing seems it's not the case. Solve x-y coordinate of point D and calculate its distance to x-y coordinate of point A, the result is diagonal length which is not of golden ratio to side unit length.

This is called “Durer pentagon”. Albrech Durer drew a compas the same way in reinascence.

I did this 5 times before getting it perfect! All sides were the exact same size to the milimeter! HOWEVER, the method is fundamentally erroneous, because you can't then rotate the pentagon and have it fit perfectly onto the old drawing. This method creates a distorted pentagon and has ruined so many glass panes for me! EDIT: I've done it again to check and yes, this method creates a pentagon with the highest point too high! It creates a distorted pentagon! I really think you should take this video down, your method 3 actually works (and I haven't checked method 2 yet)

Thank you for your response. However, requesting a takedown is a bit harsh in my opinion. Do you request takedowns on every video you watch on youtube that you find wrong, incorrect, or don't agree with? You are free to dislike a video, but I'm sure this is way better. Anyways, now that you have removed the fun out of my spare time activity, hope you a video that suites your needs.

@@Wimmas Like I said, you already have a good video, method 3, so what reason do you have for keeping up a misleading video that will cause people to make mistakes? I wasted a lot of resources following this method, while trying to make a glass dodecahedron and the video will cause others to make mistakes. Any educational/scientific video that is wrong should just be taken down. If you have several videos on the same subject anyways, what is the point of tricking people just to get some views with erroneous ones? Don't take it personal, it's just the right thing to do

This is just another method that can be used. You dont have to draw the full circle, just use an arc instead. Just make sure your arcs are long enough.
