Dorrie Rifkin, an award-winning art director and watercolor artist, demonstrates how easy it is to draw and paint type. She explains the importance of photographing reference photos to personalize your story. Rifkin also shares how she approaches her paintings. Based on her previous years as an art director, Dorrie feels it is essential to work on preliminary work (sketches, value drawings) before painting so she can determine the story and begin to paint without thinking of anything else. As a New Jersey and New Yorker, Rifkin includes dynamic city signs to express her love for typography and hopes that people will relate or even recognize the places she paints.
