You should do a 'How to draw' SERIES! Do videos for eyes, lines of action, etc! And put them all in a playlist for easy access!

Recently you asked your Instagram followers why do we watch your videos. This is why. The qualification you have over other random illustrators on RU-vid is tremendous. But it's not only your qualification, it's the confidence you give me, and hopefully many others. Ever since I found that you have a RU-vid channel, I haven't been able to stop drawing or thinking about drawing. You've given me the courage to try different thing when drawing, even if I might not be very good at them when I first try. Thank you so much Mr. Hartman.

I'm actually an art student, and hands are the absolute bane of my existence. I greatly appreciate how simple this is compared to how some of my teachers and other videos have explained it.

This is perfect timing (God's sense of humor I guess) cause I've been getting ready for a convention where I plan on selling my first book and you have no idea how many times I've thought about pulling out, about "Who'd care about reading Harley's book". I clicked on your video because I actually had learned how to draw hands from Danny Phantom first. His hands were super easy to learn and I thought it was funny you had put this out. Thanks.

I wish you were my art teacher, when I was a kid I really wanted to be an artist but lack of any talent coupled with art teachers that told me to give up meant that I got completely discouraged and never carried on with drawing. But that video really inspired me to try some doodling, thank you!
@topaz9655

Steph Leow i am getting so sick of the fact teachers r telling their students to give up. I wanna go and slap all the mean teachers and yell "THEY STILL HAVE TIME TO LEARN! IF U DONT TEACH THEM THEN SOMEONE ELSE WILL AND THEY WILL REMEMBER U AS THE BULLIES OF IMPRESSIONABLE YOUNG CHILDREN" but in all seriousness, my cousins used to tell me i cant draw. So i drew every single day until it came to the point where im out in public drawing and a small crowd will gather just to ask me for drawings. U just gotta keep drawing and never give up. U can do it!

Hey Butch, Just wanted to say thank you. Ever since I was a child I would draw/ trace. Actually, tracing helped me as a child to draw. I grew up with your cartoons and I'm in love with Fairly odd Parents and Danny Phantom. I've always been in love with drawing, inking/coloring on paper or a pc, and writing.I have been working on a web comic for the past half a year....this is my first time ever doing something like this. I've put my art on deviantart, and am still shy to share my work. I also suck at drawing hands and bare feet. I appreciate this vid a lot, and breaking the chains of fear and regret resonated with me. When I started to watch your channel it reignited my need to work on my webcomic. Again, thank you for your artistic work, me as a youn adult and my childhood thank you!

I started crying once you started talking about that bondage that really does bring me back, when you mentioned all those things I shouldn't be doing and what I should really be doing towards my art, it made me realize how much those thoughts were stopping me from doing my art, Thank you Butch, this was a great video that made me just think, " Wow, that is a beautifully drawn hand!" and I would love to always see all your videos about drawing and so much more. Thank you so much, I will take your word!

I started watching this video a while ago when it first came out and ended up not finishing it. I had only started watching because it was Butch. At the point when this video came out I was sinking into a really bad place and, despite drawing every day for years I hadn't drawn in a long time. Today I came back after buying a sketch book last night and rewatched the video- start to finish. I'm sitting in the break room at work almost in tears because the ending of this video was everything I needed to hear. Thank you, Butch.

Thank you, Butch. Have you every done realistic drawings? I don't have a problem drawing cartoon/animated hands, except I keep adding too much detail to make them look more real... but my real issue is make hands and faces look real. I know it's all in the shading, but I never know where to start with those.
@kristeyannnyt7004
@kristeyannnyt7004 7 лет назад
Well most cartoonists do realistic drawing before working in any shows so they know how to exaggerate and change real anatomy to have more expression and create an iconic art style
@kristeyannnyt7004
@kristeyannnyt7004 7 лет назад
a good tip for shading is to sketch a little sun so you can remember where the light source is coming from and find where to shade, but one of the best tips is too search up images on google of what you're trying to draw so you know exactly what to do
@emilyann3840
@emilyann3840 7 лет назад
Silvertooth Dragon Thanks, but I am aware of these things. As someone who has taken years of high school, and college art, I understand all of this, but I guess it is more of the fact of proportion, and position. I understand light source, and tonality. I also can comprehend proportion better with bodies (probably because I'm a pre-med student who has studied the human body for some years now), but hands and faces I've always had issues drawing. I do appreciate your input, but the question/ statement was more directed towards Mr. Hartman, even if he doesn't respond.

Im an adult. I'm 24. Art is my eventual career. Yet i stopped by just becuase i love hearing any wisdom from Butch Hartman, even if this was just a simple (but very useful for starting out, seriously shape building can be huge) tutorial video, and you know what? How u draw a full body
@topaz9655
@topaz9655 6 лет назад
Stan Marsh well he did say he uses basic shapes right? So what i suggest is practice drawing one of his characters over and over until ur hand and mind memorize the body shape and then draw the charatcer again but without the details and make it ur own. This was how i learned to make my own characters. I would pick out a character i thought would be easy enough to draw, draw it, then make it my own

no thats not how it works it goes like this Butch uses his taleent to come up with an idea like danny phantom, but then he pitches to Nickelodeon ( pitch is a fancy word for presentation its kind of like a book report infront of your class only instead of class mates you have nick executives and investors with lots of money), if Nick likes the idea they buy it and own it forever, then they pay for every thing cartoons are very expensive they cost millions to make , then Butch and a crew make a pilot ( a practice episode that shows what the cartoon will be like), Basically if nick likes the Pilot they show it on tv
