Just saying I'm not an architect but it is my dream career and I have done a couple sketches here and there and these videos help me a lot with what I need to consider.
Hello Mr. Doug (couldnt find your last name) I wanted to ask you, who do you aske the many questions of which materials to use etc etc. The contractor the client or do you think of it and see if the client likes what you thought of? Your reply would be much appreciated. Architecture student.
@smg1243 hi smg1243, i assume you're new to architecture? if you are, it wouldn't hurt to design your own. design your own and your teacher can help you with what you've come up with on your own. but i'm sure you'll be learning about arch. first and get a good knowledge prior to immediately drawing. you've got to start somewhere, yes? if you're wanting to work on an existing plan, just Google "floorplans."
Typically, when applying to an architecture major, they don't want to see evidence that you can draw technical drawings, like floor plans and elevations. Rather, they want to see evidence of your creativity and thinking about spaces. That being said, I wouldn't recommend recreating a building you've already made. They'll teach you the technicalities themselves; what they'd want to see is your ability to think about spaces abstractly. Check their portfolio requirements.
I really like these videos, but i have a question. I'm currently a junior in high school reaching the end of the second semester, and i need to create a EA project. i chose architecture, and i was wondering: should i create my own design? or should i recreate a building that has already been made? and if i was to do option two, is there a website that would provide blueprints? thanks to anyone who responds.
@TheBombson You're right but college is only a start. You'll need a number of years experience at designing and detailing buildings before you'll know how do this and do it well.
ofcorse you can't! you need a college for that. This is a "how to" video but architecture is not something you learn online, this is just to get the idea of what are you supose to do as an architect...
