THANK YOU!! I've been feeling very stupid regarding pens, I've been for ages trying to work out how to get the letters on a cut out and have FAILED so many times!!!!!! it hurts my soul, but the simple instruction of 'attach' has changed my world!!! Thank you :) xx
This really has been one of the best tutorials for drawing !, Wish I hadn’t sat through so many others first , that didn’t explain the one thing I needed most , as a beginner ………. Single layer ! Thankyou
THANK YOU!!! I like to make greeting cards, and my husband got me a Cricut Maker 3 in August. Within hours, I was able to set it up and figure out how to cut out vinyl stickers. But I was completely lost on how to make the Cricut draw and how to attach images. Ashamed it took me this long to watch a tutorial. Yours was the first to pop up and I am so glad it did. Now I feel like I can actually use my machine for what I want! Thank you for explaining everything so wonderfully! Can't wait to make stuff with this new knowledge. :D
You are the only one that showed me how to change from cut to draw and I have watched hours of videos trying to figure it out. Thank you for being smart enough to help beginners! I subscribed. I know that is simple now but I tried for hours to figure it out! You are awesome in teaching.
Thank you. I sure can! however it is pretty simple process. you will want to change the colors of the pieces on your canvas and then you will change the pens with DS prompts you to do so.
The only issue is this doesn’t work for the newer updated version of circuit cutter. Draw is no longer and option and instead there are other things there. This works for older versions
If you wanted the other part of the A on the YAY! How would you do that, we all know it’s an A but looks off to me. Thanks you, really enjoyed the simple but needed info on writing. One more question, do the markers make filling in lines work?
The middle part of the A wouldn't stay unless there is a backing added to it. One option would be to cut it out and then glue it to a separate backing. Your Cricut will not fill in the lines, the coloring is done manually.
Straight to the point! Thank you! I was so frustrated trying to add a drawn design and font to a card. I'm a complete beginner and wanted a challenge. I got it. Haha thanks so much for this!
I found out that if you convert a pic to a drawing file in cc design space and you use the contour button you kan make single line drawings (i dont know if it works with every picture but for the pictures i tried it with it worked)
Hi this was very good, except that my design studio function layout is very different to yours and although i could follow some Of the instructions some operations were not found. I think i might have the latest software, can you help
Thank you so much for this video! I learned a lot as a beginner. One thing that I'm struggling with is that I want to draw something on a pre-cut material. It's a 4x6 sheet and I am frustrated because I don't know how to line up the sheet so that the drawing is centered on it. I notice in design space that there is some "padding" between 0 and 1 where it automatically places your design instead of at 0" 0". How do I know where to place my sheet on my mat so that the drawing fits onto it when the machine draws it on?
One thing you could do is create a template. Insert a square and make it 4x6. Then attach what you want the machine to draw to that shape. Then hit make it. Align the shape at the 1x1 mark. You can then put your precut paper at the 1x1 as well. Let the Cricut draw. Then you can stop the machine before it begins the cut part. Hope that makes sense!
Can markers/pens draw on vinyl and can colors be changed to fit the full design like layers? Or, does it work with single layer on paper/cardstock only?
You will want to use writable vinyl for the pens to work. The pens and markers will smear on regular vinyl. You can use a variety of different colors in one design. Design Space will prompt you to change the color of the pen when it is ready to do that section of the design.
Thank you so much for this very helpful tutorial. Like your other commenters below I found it very helpful and answered almost all of my questions. One thing I was wondering about though is the line thickness of the drawings. Can you adjust the line thickness or is the line thickness based on the pen\marker you put in the machine?
You would need a pretty smooth ribbon but I feel like it could work. As long as you check that the ink will not wipe off the ribbon. Give it a try and report back!
I cannot figure out how to both draw and cut my own design that I upload to my canvas. Is that possible or do you always have to use the Cricut images?
You would need to change the operation to draw. However, if the image you uploaded is just one image it will change the operation for the whole thing. If you can make different layers you can change the operation per layer.
What setting did you use to cut the chipboard? I'm trying to make ornaments and can't seem to get a good setting to cut the chipboard. I think I have medium weight or .057mm thick.
This is a GREAT question! With attach, the individual letters will be held together but you'll still be able to un-attach and manipulate them if you need too. So it will hold the letters in place, but they're technically still individual layers. With weld, it takes all of the individual letters/design and welds it into one single-layer image. You cannot unweld once you weld! Hope that helps!
I love your tutorial. Sadly, my Cricut joy design space INSISTS that I cannot use the Pen, and I cannot click 'draw.' It'll only let me foil - which is a skill I don't have yet.
Design Space appears to have changed since this video! So now you'll have to change the operation (which used to be called "Linetype") to "Pen" and then underneath, there's a window that says, "Style" and you can select "Writing". I think that should help you!
I cannot get my Cricut to cut and write! I've done all these steps. It will write and then it quits and won't cut. So frustrating! Any tips appreciated.
Do you think it was something wrong with the machine or the software? Maybe try uninstalling Design Space and then reinstalling it. Be sure that the parts that you want to draw are selected to draw in the layers panel. Good Luck!
Cricut Design Space is constantly updating to make it easier and more functional to use. Yours may looks slightly different than when this video was recorded.
If you search tag in Design Space there is a lot to choose from. But there is also a link in the description of this video for you to go straight to this project in Design Space. Let me know if you can't find it.
We used Kraft Board to cut the paper! The product is Cricut Kraft Board, it's a really thick paper! www.craft-e-corner.com/products/cricut-kraftboard-sampler-12x12-30?_pos=3&_sid=cb272f061&_ss=r
We haven't tried it other than using Cricut Joy Smart Labels and Cricut Joy pens/markers. From what we've researched, it sounds like you can but there's a high-risk for smudging/the ink not drying correctly on the vinyl so it's not necessarily recommended. You could use printable vinyl though to achieve similar results! We will have to try it out sometime- if you do, make sure you just try small :) sorry we can't be of more help!
So are you saying that there are approx 6000 single line drawing images to use but only Cricut makes images that are usable? “Useable” meaning images that end up with single lines not the outline. This might not make sense. Another way to ask- Is DRAWING basically a “Cricut Only” image product if you want Iit to look like a line image, not a double hollow line.
@@Craft-e-CornerThank you. I haven’t even opened my machine yet but was really interested in Drawing because no one can read my handwriting, would I search “snowman writing Svg”. Or what would you suggest.
I have to disagree Cricut sans can be drawn/written, you just have to change the style to writing. There are a lot of fonts that can be written vs cut. Directly below each font style sample its says if it is single layer, multi layer, or writing. My experience when filtering out the writing fonts, it does not show you all of them in that category. If you are looking for writing fonts is just easier to skip filtering and just scroll through the fonts looking for ones that say they are for writing.
That is so right! When we created this video there were not a whole lot of writing specific fonts. But yes a lot of fonts can not be both cut and drawn. Thank you
Does Not Work…first their is no writing selection, it’s actually called has writing style but you can’t draw. This cutter is the most creative depressing machine I’ve every paid toooo much for to not be able to create🙄
