Here be the second of two part series that show how we transform two landlubber into two lady pirates in our store: piratefashions.com. This video show how to properly dress a lady from top to bottom.
Make sure you lace your corset properly and you take the time to break them in. Your back laces should be parallel and 11 not bowed or curved in anyway!
LOve these videos. I feel like I'm looking at a historical museum for Pirates. Tiger Lee is a true artist in his own right. Hats off to you Tiger Lee for all your creations.
A "lady pirate" would not be dressing as a woman, take Anne Bonny or Ching Shih for example. It was considered bad luck to have a woman at sea, pirates were very sexist and supersticious, and were known to kill women on sight if they happened upon a pirate ship. So you'd be dressing as a man to protect yourself from getting murdered, raped, drowned/walking the plank or a grusome keelhauling. This is more of a tavern wench/costume rather than a historically accurate female pirate. Still very fun to wear especially to a ren faire.
Ahoy Matie, aye do know the traditions of pirates of the golden age. Women who want to dress as men, can always go to the men's side and buy a men's outfit. We also have two different women's cross dressing outfits: piratefashions.com/collections/port-royal-outfit and piratefashions.com/collections/ships-boy, but I have found that 95% of my women customers want the fantasy outfit that I have shown.
Sad Boi I agree. Every pirate ,,lady" that I saw 'till now is dressed like a man, like you said Anne Bonny. Or take Elizabeth Swann (well she wasn't a real pirate, she was just a fictional character) but anyways. But I still think it looks good. Oh, and congrats for your knowledge, ye really smart, matey. ⚓
Interesting fact. Pirates never made their victims walk the plank, and on most pirate ships it was actually punishable by death to rape a woman. You are correct on the fact that usually women were not allowed on ship because Pirates were superstitious and viewed women as bad luck, and didn’t want the male crew fighting over a woman. But the rumor that Pirates would kidnap women and take them aboard the ship to rape them originated from the Admiralties lies and propaganda to excuse their horrible executions on pirates and to discourage their citizens from becoming pirates. This doesn’t mean that all pirates had that exact rule in there honor code as it would vary from ship to ship, but the majority of pirate ships did have this in their code, and in a museum I did get to read it for myself in an official honor code that was saved from the 17th century 😃 I just wanted to share that because that was the thing that really got me to become inspired by pirates. They were indeed complexed criminals.
Genia De Very two. It was bad luck for a week men to be at sea. Unless used for as you said Or as a slave Prostitute But it’s fun dressing. As a women pirate. I look at Pirates of the Caribbean but her father was a pirate So she took over from him. Only. In Hollywood pirate movies
