Last summer, I put together an outfit that boosted my confidence and got me lots of compliments. Brown leather loafers (from a thrift store, they were blakestitched) with the no-show socks, linen trousers ($25 on sale), a navy long-sleeved linen Henley (Amazon $30), a wristwatch, hand-me-down tortoise shell clubmaster sunglasses, and a Panama hat from a thrift store that cost me $3. That outfit didn't cost too much, especially for the miles that I've gotten out of it!
What you said about getting used to dressing better and that you started to feel not so good dressing casual just started to resonate with me in my own life. I noticed that my manners improved as well. If I am looking good, than I really expect myself to act good, to embrace that good part within me.
Absolutely thrilled to see Swedish John Henric sponsor the video. They're one of my favorite brands, and I have been happy with their quality and style. Great video. Understated elegance. Love your choices.
Great video Antonio as always. When you dress well you feel more confident. Your videos have taught me a lot about looking sharp, (I get flash backs to the ZZ Top song) lol. The classics are the best IMHO. Finding myself way more choosy about what I wear out these days, I just like looking good when I am out. Your outfit looked great 👍
I've found John Henric clothes to have excellent quality and fit. Hassle free delivery to the UK too. The shirts are more of an athletic fit, so if you've a flat belly and broader shoulders they'll look great. They offer a range of shirt sizes some of which go up in 1 inch increments for the chest, whereas other brands only go up 2 inches between sizes, so you can get a more precise fit with John Henric.
There's something to be said also for keeping in shape. As someone who carries a bit of extra timber from time to time, I notice how much worse my clothes look and feel on me when I've let myself go. Not talking massive weight loss but moderate exercise and a better diet will increase confidence and how clothes feel.
people in my office thought i was rich bcs i look like im rich. but actually i was just wearing clothes from uniqlo from top to literally underwear. i just make sure that they are all muted colours, theres no logos n it fits me nicely
You amaze me because I give the exact same advice to women I style! Your great advice works for us gals, too! I’m a real dress/skirt gal, as opposed to wearing lots of trousers, but your advice works great for me just by switching from trousers to skirts. As a woman, I highly recommend that men stick to a classic style, as advised here, those crazy street styles, like ripped clothing and loud color combos, don’t attract us.
Old money style is completely about the look and craftsmanship! Back before mass production (hence the old part) you had to be measured for your clothing and it was made in small shops by hand. If you are loaded, you can still do that. For the rest of us, that’s why we have Antonio keeping us on the straight and narrow with manufacturers who care about their product and advice on how to look great regardless of our wealth.
Great video, and I have most of these items in my wardrobe in colors that work for me. Even though it is ubiquitous, I'm not fond of a quarter-zip sweater or any zippers on sweaters. Especially if you are classifying it as "old money." Buttons on sweaters are the only choice for old-world style, in my opinion. Zippers on sweaters are like the hoodie of elevated men's fashion and are embraced by many men with a lazy approach to their style. I believe it makes you stand out in a mundane manner.
Hey Antonio, I always enjoy your videos. You're one of the main fashion RU-vidrs who motivated me to get excited about fashion and improve the way I dress. I hope this feedback helps you... For me, the large text captions in recent videos are distracting from the actual video and audio content. I think the videos are better without the text captions. Anyways, keep up the great vids and fashion advice!
I live in Miami , when I go to New York I dress like a construction worker Carrarht and Dickies , because it’s impossible to dress classic and preppy in that city , u take the subway everyone looks like a bum ….
Love the channel 👍🏻. It would be awesome to see you do a video for pale skin/gingers and different colours/outfits to utilize for them. Everything is mainly geared toward women on the internet.
While seersucker probably defines the coastal old money aesthetic, it's impossible to own for a long period due to its legendary inability to be cleaned. But, having said that, I guarantee that if you arrive in a seersucker jacket to an old money event, you'll be the guy everyone is sure was born into, or married into, serious old world money. Couple the suit with a fine pair of oxfords (not brogues), a pair of linen pants, and a simple crew neck shirt, and you'll be the guy who is the stand out at the event.
I started watching RMRS after I retired during the lock down. This video is nothing more than a commercial for John Henric. Also then first two outfits you were wearing are bad.
I don't know if I have too much to add or amend to this except that I seem to find a lot of resistance from guys who just want to wear jeans and "hoodies" like eighth grade boys for the rest of their lives or something and might as well be naked practically, but I still don't like tan pants with blue jackets all that much and I don't know that beige works as well for all outerwear and not EVERYTHING in style ten years ago will be considered IN STYLE with such anti-fashion observers. However, there may be some overlap between Old Money [buzzword] and Preppy or Dark Academia, but probably not enough, but the latter is largely impractical for warm summer weather, anyway, because it involves a lot of sweaters and heavier jackets and pretty much skips anything nautical or beachy by default.
Beige pants can tend to work better than solid white for most guys, but they are often not stark enough for a true nautical look, for example, where high contrast is more the key.
Two things to wear...excellent manners. And confidence. Correct, beautiful clothing runs only a poor third. But a VERY important third. Still, doesn't one follow another???
Would love to see this take over that ugly baggy trend. This looks like men actually know how to dress. Saw a video yesterday showing that this baggy trend evolved from covid or otherwise just pure laziness. Well it's 2023 and we should've already moved on from the covid area trends by now ie (baggy clothes, lounge wear in public and god awful long hair and mullets)
What about the poofy sleeve shirt. Not exactly old money style but I have one that where with a sweater vest in the fall and I love the way it works and looks. I’m also gonna make a few lighter weight versions for myself if I can find the right vest to go with it. I know it’s a “pirate” style shirt, but I think if it’s made out of the right fabric, you get rid of the ties and have regular buttons on it, and you match it with the right outfit, it would look right at home on the beach
Brioni or Zegna ish suits, well pressed clothes in natural fibre, synthetics are frowned upon, English shoes..only then can you sprezzatura your way into old money cool, imo
13:47 It doesnt matter if you are wearing a $5000 suit off the rack if it looks like trash. When you can get an ebay suit get it tailored and look like a million bucks... And these days vintage is where its at for actual nice clothing made of 100% wool and none of this plastic garbage..
If you’ve ever known someone from old money you know they don’t like to wear anything that brings unwanted attention. Also, most old money elites don’t really like to spend their money on clothing. They may put out money to buy a suit, but the suit will last a lifetime.
This. My family hates luxury items. They're more likely to buy something from Old Navy, so long as the fit is right and the material is natural (cotton, linen, etc). Almost always tailored after purchase also.
These clothes look timeless, not antiquated. I would argue that the latest trends will look out of style (i.e. dated or antiquated) far sooner than this timeless style. In addition, "old money" doesn't imply "super wealthy." Instead, it's more likely to reflect someone whose family has been upper-class (and highly educated) for a number of generations. Some of my clients would be old money. Many others at least want to portray themselves as sharing some of the same characteristics. It's useful for me to be able to blend in when meeting potential clients … rather than sticking out like a sore thumb as someone who doesn't belong.
@@karlr750 Let’s face it, its just a horrible phrase to use. People are obsessed with looking like ‘old money’ or smelling like a ‘CEO or boss’. I find it extremely bizarre. but hey, I’m probably in a minority!
Theres only two styling channel that made me subscribe. This channel is one of them. And i agree to everything he says here in his vlog. My styling inspirations is a mix between southlandish/redneck, younger elvis/james dean, and johnny depp
