@@TheLostShepIt seems that my previous answer disappeared so I will try again. I would avoid fixating on specific brands but instead look for a good cut, fit, construction and fabric quality. A few big brands might offer items in tropical wool but you will pay just for the brand. However, you could start by looking at Benevento, Canali, Caruso, Slowear, etc. They all sell trousers in tropical wool but there are many more options out there.

I’m really interested in expanding my wardrobe beyond moisture-wicking athleisure and was curious about his perspective. Despite living in Florida for so long, I still struggle with dressing well in the heat. However, I know that California's climate isn't as consistently hot and definitely not as humid, so I’m taking his advice with a grain of salt... so yeah do with that what you will. I’m born , raised and live in Thailand. You know what people do around here? Just ditch the jacket. Don’t fight the heat. The struggle is real. Unless, you turn up the air conditioning real high which a lot of office do, then you can continue wear whatever you want and just avoid going outside. The people that can do this is a few privilege that live mostly in air conditioning environments switching off in the heat a few minutes in parking lots. And that’s all.

The time that we spent under direct sun is so minimal that I don't even know if i can use the advice in this video. (maybe if I'm going picnic) Especially if you're someone that dress up, you're most probably going to a building with ac. If it's outdoor, people mostly avoid going during midday.

long time southwest climate classic style enthusiast & here’s some things I’ve learned: - Linen & cotton are absolute must. - Roll up your sleeves. The rolled up sleeves on a button up is a classic look, relaxed, comfortable, effortlessly cool. I just can’t see the same outfit looking better with a short sleeve shirt than if you had just rolled up the sleeves. - Leather will get hot! I love leather loafers & dress shoes but if you find yourself outside in sunlight or are a commuter by foot primarily, you may find things getting toasty in the summer, definitely lean on the suede parts of your shoe collection in those moments. - If you ditch the jacket, ditch the tie. Few things looks sillier than a guy in just a shirt & a tie. - If you keep the jacket, incorporate shade. A brimmed hat or perhaps even a parasol if you feel you can pull it off, but of course be prepared to sweat if you catch yourself in the elements for too long! - Check out films like Purple Noon (Alain Delon has immaculate summer style), The Talented Mr. Ripley (both versions have some very tasteful wardrobes), American Gigolo (Richard Gere is shown in some lovely classic attire adapted for the Southern Los Angeles climate).

As someone living in the subtropics, I’d agree with everything you’ve recommended. I’d also add guayabera shirts. These are collard shirts with pockets and usually embroidered floral or geometric patterns in the same colored thread as the shirt fabric. They are designed to be worn untucked and are considered formal wear without a jackets in parts of Latin America. Being untucked gives you more airflow for cooling and they are my go to everyday wear in summer in central Texas. Just be sure to get cotton or linen or mix of the two.

Excellent ! Short-sleeved shirts with w̳i̳t̳h̳ ̳s̳t̳r̳a̳i̳g̳h̳t̳ ̳h̳e̳m̳, meant to be worn untucked, are less frustrating than shirts with "S" shaped hem that frequently become untucked. Now I know there is a name for it, "guayabera shirt". They are more practical and comfortable in hot weather. Also yes, *natural fabric,* 100% if possible. The less % of polyester, the better. Polyester makes for sweat.

I love Guayaberas. My father used to wear them on formal occasions a lot back in the day. Unfortunately, they are associated with old people and communism here in Miami due to their extensive use by the PCC officials in Cuba :(. The best you can wear them are on very informal beach occasions, which kind of defeats the point IMO. Hope they come back at some point.

finally, someone addresses this. I'm a suit person living in Dallas, Texas. I've been wearing linen shirts, SUITS, blazers, and pants for years. Seersucker, when I can find it. Never considered Madras...didnt know it existed, but i'll now look into it. Linen is at least 20 to 100% more expensive, but it's a strong fabric and lasts for almost a decade (i've only had mine for 7 years, so I cant say a full decade). Still thought it costs more, it's totally worth it in the Texas heat.
@Gent.Z
@Gent.Z 5 месяцев назад
I'm sure you're pretty much an expert after living in Texas! I also find linen shirts more comfortable, even when it's not particularly cold, And I liked the wrinkled texture, it's a little more elegant and nonchalant
@mph7282
@mph7282 5 месяцев назад
The three best fabrics for hot weather are linen, linen, and…let’s see…linen. As a fellow Texan, I can back you up on this. Yes it wrinkles, but as mentioned, they’re elegant wrinkles, and linen irons very nicely and can take the hottest setting on your iron. It cleans easily and dries quickly. It’s perfect. Seersucker is nice, as it’s also breathable and cool and doesn’t wrinkle. The traditional striped seersucker is bold, but nowadays you can find seersucker in all sorts of solid colors as well if the blue and white is a little too much of a Southern lawyer look for you. Great topic!
@slchance8839
@slchance8839 5 месяцев назад
Thank you both for the comments. What I like about linen is that it gives off a more "Gatsby" vibe than "Boardroom lawyer" vibe, which is important in my line of work, as I need to be well-dressed, but not intimidating. I wear linen in the winter, and it doesnt feel frosty at all. BUT, i wear it with a cashmere or rabbit wool scarf to help keep warm. Is it the best for winter? I cant say: Texas winters cant compare to the more punishing winters of other locations that actually get real snow. But for Dallas, linen is a year-round fabric. Linen suit on linen shirt with loosened silk tie and metal cufflinks (not silk knot cufflinks) is a GREAT combination of casual (linen) with refined (stainless steel or silver). I'm with you on seersucker giving off the southern laywer/Colonel KFC Sanders vibe, but if I tone down the quirk with somber brown shoes, it strikes a good balance.

More casual sneakers using canvas or suede are good for summer too. Just make sure they're not lined with something synthetic. 100% lightweight cotton or lightweight merino wool socks are also the way to go in the summer.
@apisDei

Canvas sneakers like Supergas or Converse are the worst as your sweat will be absorbed into the cotton fabric and insole and you will have stinky shoes and feet. Only smooth leather insoles and lining will do, anything else will stink.

I live in a tropical climate 8 months of the year. I highly recommend seersucker suits and separates be unlined. Because of the unique properties of seersucker, a lining is really superfluous because the added structure that lining provides is unnecessary and traps heat. An unlined seersucker suit can also be gently laundered instead of dry cleaned. It is also possible to get seersucker fabrics in solids or patterns other than the orthodox seersucker stripe. A gray seersucker stripe is also more versatile and easy on the eye than the standard blue stripe.

in the summer I wear linen pants and shirts, and you're right, linen is the right option for warm weather. but under the shirt, no matter how warm it is, I wear a cotton t-shirt as a sweat absorbent. because of that extra t-shirt, I'm not any warmer than without it, and it helps a lot by absorbing sweat to keep the top shirt in decent condition. for footwear, I recommend shoes whose upper part is at least partially made of mesh material. it is not visually repulsive like sandals, and the air flows freely through the mesh, the openings of which are about 2-3 millimeters wide.

Small correction, seersucker (the fabric) originated in India as a fabric for laborers which was then exported to various places amongst them being New Orleans, where the Haspel tailoring house (allegedly) gave birth to the seersucker suit - popular amongst jazz musicians and Maycomb lawyers alike

When the climate is hot, your mixing and matching game is crucial, as you can't really do layering and your item option is limited. The overall color palette has to be nice, formality level between each item has to be well coordinated. Accessories like watch, rings, bracelets, or even sunglasses can really make a difference, too.

Summer here in Cincinnati can get hot and humid I wear seersucker landed and like Cotton shirts. I also wear suede Chukka boots and Clark's dessert boots. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds brown leather cap toe sneakers as well. I always wear a Panama straw hat to keep the sun off my head. Cheers Ron

Great video, could you please add captions when you introduce a new term? That way it's easier to find the things you mention online. Please also add more example images. Thanks a lot! Keep the good work!

Quite a lot of hot places have no culture of jackets and suits and will look out of sort wearing one. Cotton mixed linen shirts are my go-to these days. Solves the wrinkling issue

One issue I have had, and maybe it's because I buy "off the rack"...........but they will put an acetate lining or half-lining in a linen jacket or pants. This is silly. Need a cotton or silk or even a linen lining.

Linen wrinkles a lot. Also, after wearing it for an hour, it is going to stretch out at least 3 sizes. So if you want to look like a mees, Linen is a good choice😅.

Hi. As someone who dresses in the tropics, if you want to look fresh make sure you wear a cotton vest undergarment. It will take up any perspiration and your shirts will remain looking dry and fresh

Also HOT AND HUMIDITY is totally different than hot and dry … you will not be able to wear a linen jacket no matter how light it is , it’s just too humid

Somehow linen makes me sweat much more than cotton. Besides, no matter what you wear, long sleeves, shirt and jacket in 40+ degrees C, is simply suicidal. Same with boots etc. It's ok for someone living between an air conditioned office and a car. For anyone venturing outside and actually walking under the sun in those temperatures, shorts (or at best, light cotton pants) with a t-shirt or a short sleeved shirt, is the only sensible way.

What about silk jackets? I have a classic cream coloured silk sports coat that looks and feels like linen. And an important element of light-weight suits beyond the fabric itself is to have a half-lining, which increases ventilation and breathability.

i love people thinking this will work for humid and hot climates theres a reason why hawaiian shirts are used in troical countries, so my suggestion is go with the flow go with light clothing and make it about colors and fit rather than layers

California HOT is complete different than Caribbean or tropical HOT … one is dry and the other is very humid, That changes everything. Hope someone out there will touch the subject accordingly.

Funny that you mention Clarks on here as elegant climate-appropriate dress. Gangsters in Jamaica have idolized the shoes for decades and it has been cemented in our history as the unoffical shoe of Jamaica

Great video! I’m in Australia and had never really considered linen or chukka boots but will have a look down that avenue … One request - do you think you could do a video on style tips for bald men? I love the “Old Money” style, but feel like hair is a big component of that look unfortunately and would like to try and work with what I’ve got
