I originally wrote a negative comment about this video, but I immediately retracted it once I realized that this video is actually teaching alot in just a short amount of time, which can be easily overwhelming for new drifters. Especially in a game as difficult as gran turismo. I would love to congratulate sim action for this video and its success. It took me about a week, but I was able to get a steady, clean, and balanced drift all the way around the track. My advice to new drifters out there, is to purely pay attention to your foot positioning on the throttle, and make sure you are in a position that gives you the most control. For me, that's my foot fully covering the pedal and giving it the power it needs. Unlike controller, you can't continuously blip the throttle to control the car, you need to keep your foot constantly paying attention to the angle of the vehicle, and let instinct take over the wheel. Thinking too much into it is going to make you spin out or loose control.

Well said. It's one of those things that's really hard to explain because it's so much about feel. I remember being taught to drift way, way back in my teens using a kart. I had a great teacher, but failed over and over to initiate and hold the drift. Then one attempt I got it, and never had a problem again. Once you feel it, it locks in, but it's hard to convey verbally as knowing all the exact steps perfectly, still doesn't quite unlock it.

Thanks a lot man! Yeah I actually filmed all the driving parts back in May 2022, when I started generating the plot for the video. I had to discontinue the progress later, till I found the best way to include some clear voice-over. My own voice was not working for me, so I was waiting to get some good equipment for clear professional recording. Then lately, I discovered this brilliant realistic sounding AI tool, which is not so perfect but much better than recording my own voice in my opinion. I tested this format in the FFB video guide to see how well will people perceive it. It turned out to be the best performing video on my channel by far. So I became more comfortable with the idea, and relieved that I would not ruin the info with some bad execution you know. I'm so glad that people are liking it and I hope it goes as viral as it deserves. I know this deserves to charge money for, but I don't think anyone would even try it without any proof that it's worth it. Right now my goal is to well establish my channel and make it the number one destination for people looking for Gran Turismo content. It's not even monetized yet, so that's the first milestone to conquer. After the success of the FFB video which has generated 879 view hours by itself until this moment and still going, I think the required 4000 view hours for monetization are now very easy to accomplish with this drifting series. Thank you for your nice comment, and for your continuous support! 🤟🏻🤟🏻

@@SimActionClips Do you mind sharing which AI voice generation tool did you use? It's really good! I tried to find one but none were good and free. Good luck with monetizing your content, you deserve the reward. I used to get some reward from my channel too (all lacked voice narration), but nowadays I'm busy with family so I neglected my account and was already demonetized by RU-vid. Oh well, too bad!
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
Sure man it's this website: www.synthesia.io I had to do some tricks though, cause the free version gives you only a limited number of characters to type, and you can't even download the clip when it's done, unless you have a paid subscription. So I had to download a cracked version of Movavi Screen Recorder to capture the sound. I open my generated short clips in different browser tabs and play them back to back while recording. I then adjust the spacing in the video editor. It takes more time this way but it's still much easier and faster than recording my own voice lol. Thanks for your kind wishes bro! Yeah I feel you since I barely have time to do the things I want myself. But that's life.
@fyresg
@fyresg Год назад
@@SimActionClips yup, I've tried these free websites and indeed, lots of limitations for the free demo! I was able to extract the audio out of the video easily with free tools like VLC player or Handbrake; didn't have to do screen recording. But it is painful to combine them altogether. Amazing to know you've went this far to get the narration in, hats off to you!

I have the Thrustmaster T150 and so far its been impossible to drift with. Its equally difficult when trying to countersteer during a race. I have played around with the steering wheel settings, but until this video I was unaware that the controller sensitivity setting had anything to do with the steering wheel. Awesome video, great explanations.

GT7 is super hard to learn drifting in compared to most sims out there. Don’t be discouraged. I’m on a T-GT2 and I’m sucking BAD at drifting as well. It just takes a lot of time to learn this skill. The car you use also matters a alot. Almost all the typical drift cars are SUPER twitchy. This BMW used here is so much easier. And some of the american muscle cars are even easier than this. Big cars are like drifting in slow motion. Much easier. Like driving a boat.. whereas the ae86 and silvias etc are super duper squirrely. High power engines are also an absolute disaster for newbies. Same with high RPM turbos.. where all the power just kicks in after 5k.. so hard to control. A car with about 200hp and no turbo will have the smoothest power band for newbie drifting. Keep at it, you will improve :)

I just want to say thanks a great deal. I finally started to be able to do your first part of the tutorial to be able to initiate a drift and counter steer without spinning out. Even though my q55 prism tv has no Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). haha. It is do-able. I finally realise that you did not turn in hard before you blip your throttle. You were turning the steering wheel at fixed angle to keep up with the circle and maintaining your speed around 64km/h plus minus. After which, you have to feel whether the car starts to be at the point where the tyres are at its limit before drifting through the feedback of the wheel. That is the point where you depress fully on the throttle and release totally in a moment while faster helping my g923 wheel to counter steer in the opposite direction before turning back to face the front. To be able to do it multiple times round the big circle makes me excited! Thank you once again for this tutorial! You are awesome❤
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
You're welcome! That's some great news man! Yeah it is do-able for sure. I actually learned everything I know with high latency on my older Samsung TV. It wasn't until last year that I had ALLM. But it does make it much easier and much more controllable. Yes that's a good description of what's going on, seems you got it well figured out. Just one point about the front tires before initiation. I wouldn't say they're at their limit, they're somewhere near maximum grip. You can feel it with heavier ffb, if you try to change your steering angle at that moment. Being able to feel it right also helps a lot in racing and hot laps, as you would be able to judge the level of grip at the front and also use it for good slip angle while trail-braking. I will be better covering this particular case in detail in future videos. I'm so glad I could help this much, and I know how good it feels when you start getting the hang of it. That's really awesome! Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to share this, this means a lot! 🤟🏻🤟🏻❤

haha well many people tell me I should charge money for these lessons. I just want to grow my channel as big as possible for now. You're absolutely right and there is more to it... one should start learning with road cars and later switch to pro drift cars to avoid developing bad habits. Like you said road cars teach you how to maintain the momentum which translates to smoother and better planned drifting in pro cars. And using angle kits while learning is a big no go to me as they are widely used the wrong way these days. One should start without an angle kit and switch to using it the right way after mastering everything about drifting without it. It leads to much cooler looking smooth drifting later.

This is by far the best drift tutorial video, but I’m still having trouble. Whenever I initiate the drift, I spin out, no matter what. I try using a lot, a little, and no throttle. Whatever I do, I always manage spinning out. I’m not sure if there’s a setting I disabled or something but I’ve been trying for a while and I can never manage to drift
@SimActionClips

Thanks a lot! Which wheel are you using and how did you set the ffb settings? Also for how long have you been trying? It's normal to keep failing at first and it's also normal for it to take some time before you become able to catch it right. Even trying for 2 weeks straight and not yet figuring it out is still normal btw.

That's very true. I learned to drift on GT5 with a DFGT and immediately transferred to easily drift in real life with a huge advantage over those who don't do simracing. If you're gonna be repeating this video to better understand, I suggest you repeat each part alone until it gets clear then move to the next one. I also highly suggest you start learning without the VR as you need to be able to see your own steering wheel. I’ll have a little fun, oh and of course, test if I get bad motion sickness, because that really bothers me and then after I’ve had a feel for it, I will go back to playing on tv, to try and learn the stuff, you showed, in this video. 👍

Thanks for this great tutorial! You explained it very thoroughly. Can I ask a few more questions? 1) I have M3 '07 and Nissan S15 tuned and set exactly like your S14 (in your part 2 tutorial).... which one would you recommend for beginners? 2) When initiate a drift, after the rear starts spinning out, do you just let go the steeeing wheel to let it turn back or you physically turn it back? 3) I'm still far from drifting 😅 .... I keep having a problem of either the car straightened out or spinning.
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips 6 месяцев назад
Hello, you're welcome man, and thank you! 1) I don't think the tune of the S14 will work exactly the same on the S15, but I'm not sure how good it can be, need to test that. I would recommend both he the S14 and the M3 for beginners along with many other similar cars like this stock brz: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AWGFfbg7jdU.html However, taking the same specific car for each tutorial as a start is a good idea, i.e. the M3 for part 1 and the S14 for part 2, then trying different low to mid powered cars later. 2) It depends on your steering wheel. I can just let go of the TGT2 most of the time with the right settings, but I can rarely do that with the G29 and need to help it a lot more. 3) That's very normal for everyone to experience when new to drifting. It took me many days to start to get the hang of it back when I started, and it can take weeks and more than a month which is still very normal because it's a new physical skill that requires muscle memory. So you need to keep training your body and brain for it to become part of your physical habits. Also, and this is very important to be much more in control, USE A HEADSET or at least some earphones. Never use the speakers of your TV unless you're using the fiber optic connection for audio from the PS4. The difference in audio delay can be immediately felt, and the initial delay from the speakers completely ruins your input timing. This alone can reduce your frustration dramatically.

@SimActionClips 3 месяца назад
What forcefeedback setting did you put at 1 and why? I didn't get that. These are my recommended settings for the G29: - Controller Steering Sensitivity: 5 (very important for all wheel users) - Max Torque: 10 - Force Feedback Sensitivity: 10 Also go to the main menu and click on the GT icon at the top left corner, then click on options > controllers > vibration function > vibration strength, and set it to zero. This setting gives you more vibration details but the more vibrations you get the more numb the steering wheel feels in terms of sensitivity to direction changes. And you need every bit of responsiveness to direction changes to react faster to these. Also keep in mind that this takes time to get used to doing it right. You need to keep trying and failing until you start getting it right. I don't know what's happening in your case, I need to see it, but maybe you're going to fast at the initiation that the rear end is not stepping out?
@JacobEditsCars

@christiandominy2960 7 месяцев назад
Like what speed and in what gear would you be looking for to initiate the slide?
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips 7 месяцев назад
Well first of all don't have the expectation to immediately succeed with it, as this can take you a whole week of daily practice to even start to get used to it. So what you're describing can be very normal and just require more practice to fix. Try different speeds until you find the sweet spot, it's always the best way to learn. That speed depends more on which car you're driving and even which tires you're using so it's gonna change for each situation. It's not something to memorize or even monitor in numbers while driving because it's not a constant factor. You just need to practice a lot to get to a point where you can feel and anticipate how the car will behave. If you’re new to this I highly recommend that you keep practicing a lot, and on a daily basis if possible. Keep trying to initiate and learn what's happening during the process. It will be frustrating and can even feel impossible at first and that's totally normal trust me. If it takes you a month to only start to get the hang of it that's still very normal. In this exercise and using that M3 in default setup I kept it in 2nd gear all the way. And btw you can try different initiation techniques and see wich one suits you best, but I think this is the simplest and easier one. All the other techniques are explained in part2 which I've just published around 13 hours ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aNb7f5VzA2E.html Also which wheel are you using and did you try my recommended ffb settings?

Oh that was the problem! you should always turn the traction control completely off to drift, also turn all other assists off except for ABS because these totally ruin your control over the car, I even mentioned that at the end of the video. @SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
Thanks a lot man! The car in this tutorial is fully in default setup, and there was no tuning of the gear ratios. It's much better to do it in manual for sure. One of the key controls during more advanced drifting is to know when to shift your gears mid-drift, which is something that I will surely cover in the coming parts of the tutorial. In this particular exercise, I was always in 2nd gear. A good suggestion to better feel when you break traction and the rear end starts to step out, is to use the right force feedback settings for it. You can watch this video where I explain in details how to do it and why: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oEe5ZchqbMg.html

True that's because the game limits the animation of rotation of the cockpit view wheel to where it stops. The front wheels still rotate but the virtual steering wheel doesn't. I was able to benefit from this because when you set either the L2 or R2 trigger of the Playstation controller as handbrake in GT7, you get a fully functional progressive handbrake and not just an ON/OFF switch. This should work with any wheel since it's functioning independently. Hope this helps, much love 🤟🏻

I’m currently using a t300 gt edition, looking into upgrading to a direct drive wheel soon. Aswell well as upgrading my whole sim 😂 have you had a chance to get your hands on the ps vr 2 and have a go at drifting in vr?

Did you try my settings? - Controller steering sensitivity: 5 - force feedback sensitivity: 10 I set max torque at 10 or the G29 and 6 for the TGT2 so you should set yours somewhere in between. You can watch this video for more details: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oEe5ZchqbMg.html I think with enough max torque the T300 should be able to rotate fast enough on its own during transitions. Practice letting go of it at the right time at the beginning of the transition an let it do the rotation on its own and see how it goes. I'll be explaining this in more details in the videos. Meanwhile, try watching real drifting videos and see how it gets done. A direct drive will surely help a lot especially with transitions. I wanted a Fanatec DD Pro but couldn't get one so I settled fir the TGT2 for now. Didn't try any VR yet but surely planning on getting a PSVR2. It should feel very realistic from what I'm seeing. If only they fix the virtual steering wheel rotation in the game in cockpit view, it would be perfect!

hang in there bro, just keep practicing everyday and you'll get there. It's more of a habit building process through practice more than anything else. I used to participate in the Lebanese Drifting Championship organized by the ATCL along with my brother. But I stopped in 2015 because of the lack of funding. We were known as " The Abdel Hadi Brothers". Now we rarely do it just for fun.

LISTEN TO ME TURN YOU WHEEL GRIP SETTINGS TO ZERO IN THE CONTROLL MENU. it’s the blue and white one that you can choose 1-5 in the in game car menu. You can’t drift without this. It took me a while to figure it out

lets see how this one goes, last "tutorial" i watched was like "i dont know, you have to "feel it" ", and i was like .... The drift challenges are my bane, i can get gold on most of the rest with some troubles, but even the game doesnt teach you how to drift. I know the basics but the car feels like it needs to be in a very delicate balance to be able to drift, and lets not talk about maintaining one.
@SimActionClips

You gotta keep persistently practicing man, because practice is key. I actually used to tell my friends the same when they asked for advice "I can't really tell you much, you just have to practice and feel it". It's how most if not all drifters learned their way into drifting, and it's always easier done than explained for an experienced drifter. It's because of that, which lead to the lack of info and proper tutorials all over the internet, that I've decided to put my engineering mind into creating this tutorial. My goal is to make it as clear and informative as possible. And trust me, it's not an easy task, and requires lots of work to produce such videos. Anyway this is only Part1 of a much longer tutorial series, where I'm aiming to explain every single detail about the subject. It's gonna also be organized from the most basic to the most advanced techniques and tricks. I hope it will help you guys 🤟🏻

You have to be careful with the max torque setting, with a weak wheel like a g29 you shouldnt use more than 4, else the ffb waveform will be clipped. Besides that i enjoyed the video a lot, i think my problem mostly was going too hard on the throttle or release it too hard too, and for too much time, so i spin out. Glad to hear you are the same guy from that other video (steer contorller sensitivity), people asume all the "controller" settings are for dualsense, but GT calls even your wheel a controller, so all settings in game are for the wheel aswell (different for options settings menu). So as a fellow engieneer i aprove.

@SimActionClips Год назад
Clipping the higher forces is better than losing the lower forces on a week wheel such as the G29. With the TGT2 I set the torque to 6. I'm glad you watched my other video, I also made a mistake in the graphical representation of of the forces there, so you can watch it properly corrected here: ru-vid.com-mi2V__LLfM?feature=share Thanks a lot for your feedback man, and yes smoothness in the input changes is key. Actually the smoother you can be, the more you'll be able to pull out some much more brutal drifts. Regarding the controller steering sensitivity, and considering all the wrong interpretations of it all over the internet, with people even stating that PD themselves say it's just for the "controller", I have a feeling that this effect could be a bug that wasn't even intended from their side. It's there since GT sport though if not even before. I was totally aware of a much more obvious coding error where they had the engine sounds swapped between the E46 M3 and the E92 M3 in GT6. It was so obvious yet I didn't see anyone noticing it nor did it ever get fixed lol.

@@SimActionClips Its definitely not the lower end of the force that comes through your steering wheel when your tyres starting to loose traction. Its the higher end of the force that will allow you to better control of the car, so you will loose every important details in your ffb when it clipped. Unless you think feeling “small bumps” on the road are far more important than feeling your “tyres at the limit of its grip” while cornering…
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
@Ton AMG that's not true. You actually use the whole range of forces regardless of which is bumps and which is not. To feel that your tires are just starting to lose grip, and more importantly to feel that the back is just starting to step out when doing some neutral steering (if you know what that is) you need to feel the lowest forces available at the moment they start pulling the steering wheel to one side. Because at the beginning of it the steering wheel would feel the lightest possible. The forces are exactly similar to when you're going in a straight line and you start introducing some very minimal rotation to the steering wheel. And the more lower forces you have available there the faster you will be in catching any change. And you got it all the opposite way. The more clipping you have on the higher forces the less you feel the bumps which exactly are not as important as feeling the change in direction and weight shifting of the car. And what I've described above is a very tiny but important example of where you need these lower forces when racing. They get even much more important when drifting if you wanna do it properly and similarly to the real thing.
@tonamg53

@@SimActionClips Your steering is heaviest when you are turning into high speed corner with your front tires are at it maximum of its grip… You don’t feel the back stepping out with the steering wheel… you know, your steering wheel is connected to the *front wheels* of the car… not the back wheels🤦🏻‍♂️ In real car, you feel the back stepping out with your ass on the seat and not your hands on the steering wheel🤦🏻‍♂️ In sim, that’s what motion rig and haptic feedback are for… not your wheels. Also, when you clipped you lose every details in the ffb… but there are ways to tune the lower forces up *WITHOUT* clipping… That’s what the other setting call *sensitivity* is for… this will bump up the lower forces without increasing the overall torque value. (Although you lose dynamic range but still better than clipping) The torque setting you basically raise everything to higher values which can cause clipping.
@SimActionClips
@SimActionClips Год назад
Your description gets me really questioning how do you even drive. The ffb is at maximum after you have already turned into a high speed corner, not at the moment you start turning. It hits maximum right at the edge of the grip with maximum possible steering while still maintaining the grip. The force then can decrease if you start understeering. At the moment you start turning you can feel it ramping up till you reach the maximum that I've just described. You talk to me in a condescending way thinking maybe I'm just a boy playing a game or something and pretending you know it all. And what's with these facepalm emojies, they don't make you right you know. It's true in real life we feel the back stepping out with our ass and we heavily rely on the G-Forces. In sim racing when you don't have a motion rig you can actually feel the back starting to step out with the wheel, if you actually know what you're doing, which clearly you don't. I've described the mechanics of it in my video if you even watched it all. I don't like to just throw comments the way did on a previous one when you said "my car in real life is an AMG" lol. But for your info I used to actually compete in real drifting locally. I have a purpose built drift machine, that 2JZ powered E36 you see at the beginning of my drifting tutorial. I'm a finalist in GT Academy International 2014. I know precisely what I'm talking about when I give the info that I've already explained to you. I don't like to talk that way, your way. I'm not gonna even reply to your comments anymore, since you're not wort it with the way you talk. I'm just now explaining more details for anyone reading your comment so that they don't get deceived with wrong info and that's it. When the forces get clipped you don't lose all the info, you just lose some of the differences between some of the higher forces which are important to keep if you have a capable wheel. The lower forces are much more important though. And I've already explained some of the why, but there is much more to it. I've already recommended the highest ffb sensitivity of 10 and that alone is still not enough for weak wheels such as the G29. And again add to that, it's not capable of spinning fast enough on its own when you need it to during a drift. That's what we actually rely on in real life drifting, we just hold it and let go of it to spin on its own most of the time while doing most of the work through the pedals. I doubt you even know how that works given your statements. Anyway for anyone reading, who wants me to clarify more details about any of this, feel free to ask. As for you I'm done replying to your rude attitude... peace.
