You need to understand how a transmission works to learn manually easily. A manual transmission usually has 6 gear and you switch them manually hence the term, the clutch is essentially disconnecting the engine from the transmission, you do this to choose the gear you want to go to, once you have you can let go of the clutch ( reconnect the transmission) and your gear change now is in effect. You must let go of the accelerator during this action to prevent wear. There are 6 gears which the top speed and torque are limited to the final drive ration( how many times the crankshaft rotates for the wheel to rotate once). Within the final drive you have another set of gear ratios which determines how many times the engine rotates to spin the gear once. This is what actually matters during the drive. In order to start the car go to neutral(it’s in the middle of all the gears) hold the clutch and the break, then start the car. You then let go of the parking break, then shift to 1st to move let go the break fully then let go of the clutch slowly and smoothly, then you will start to move slowly, give it some gas to not stall. First gear will be very tall and torquey, but will have a small top speed (usually 30 at 6-7k rpm) this gear will go by very fast so just ease on the throttle and shift at 3k rpm’s for fuel economy, and shift at you max rpm for maximum speed(full throttle required, useless to go high in revs at low throttle unless you like the sound), the rest of the gears are similar, but the higher you go the longer it will take to go through the gears. To downshift ( go down a gear) you must look at your rpm’s first, never downshift at higher rpm’s( that is a money shift. Your engine will blow , this depends on which gear you are at ). When you downshift you need to rev your engine 2k rpm above what it (depending on the gear) was then switch to the gear, then let go of the clutch. You do this to get power to accelerate as you have much less torque the higher the gear you are( less acceleration). In order to brake you must watch your rpm’s closely, if you break a little that is fine and you can stay in the same gear, however you break more than 10-20mph you must hold the clutch as you break to not stall the engine, then once you are done you shift to the appropriate gear, first or second ,3rd,or 4th depending of how much you breaked(check you speed to determine which gear to switch to. Also when you drive manual after you shift to second gear position your palm to face the passenger seat when you shift to third to prevent a money shift, it’s uncomfortable but it can save you a ton of money. To turn off the car shift to first pull the parking break then turn off the car. This is basically park in an auto.

So in my mini ALL the way to the left and up is reverse! *but you do really have to push it. My point is that 1st gear is not always allways top left... Pretty good video though.
There's no easy way. Just drive it all you gotta do is slowly lift the clutch till you fine the bite point in first gear some cars need a little bit of fuel to take off
first gear is not always top left. A lot of cars actually have 1st gear at the bottom left or the 2nd one on the top left too. Easy mistake as this is your first manual car and you probably coincidentally ran into others cars that were just like it though.
