How to Easily Replace an AC Filter / Aprilaire 2400/ Easy DIY
Replacing the air filter on your AC or heating unit is a simple maintenance step to ensure the system runs well and the air in your house is clean.

Thank you for posting this video! I just moved into a new house, I have the aprilaire 2400. The filter that was in the furnace had some weird measurements. Like the measurements had fractions in them. I thought that 16x27x6 was going to be the closest to what the previous owner had. I bought the filter from the link posted (16x28x6) and it fits perfectly. I actually bought the merv 13 version. I did see there is also an upgrade kit to use the 413 filter. I thought this was a waste of money. Spend money to be able to buy more expensive filters? Someone else commented saying the upgrade will allow you to use a merv 13. I bought a merv 13 filter for it... I do not see why there is a reason for the upgrade kit... Correct me if I am wrong.

Where can I get a replacement plastic door for the Aprilaire 2400?

If you do a google search of "April Aire 2400 door replacement" there are a few advertised thru some third party appliance stores. Not sure of quality or anything, but a couple look good.

Could you put the filter in without the plastic housing on the exterior?

I wouldn't do it. The housing the filter box goes into would have a large gap inside around the filter that'd allow a lot of unfiltered air to pass around it.

You have a state of the art Aprilair Filter System, an older type but still a quality product. To get the maximum benefit of that system you really should replace with an Aprilair #401 OEM filter. Now your Aprilair 2400 can be upgraded with a 1413 Kit that will make it a lot easier than fussing with the combs. However, the new #413 filter you would be using will cost a bit more but you will be upgrading your whole system from a Merv 10 to a Merv 13 which is a better filtration for your equipement and your family's health, something to think about.

Your video helped me get this done in our new house. Thank you! I’ve got some pink insulation on the back of the door. It’s pretty dark colored. I’m not super handy, but could I just throw this insulation away? Or do I need to get some new insulation? This is in a big open space in my u finished basement of that matters.

Glad it was helpful, thanks for eating! Based on my model, I would keep the insulation there to ensure it properly seals around the filter housing, to avoid any unfiltered air getting around it. If it's really dirty and troublesome, you may be able to grab a piece of similar thickness insulation at the home improvement store to replace it.

How bout just 86 that overpriced, piece of junk and put one in the ceiling intake vent where 99% of ac units are..Save money and a potential accident climbing around the attic.

Replacement plastic doors for the Model 2400 are discontinued by April Aire. The little plastic tabs on the doors may break off. Use duct tape to secure door to enclosure if tabs are gone. You need to reuse the plastic door for the April Aire 1413 upgrade kit too.

I kind of want to get the filter you're getting because its already in the box and that to me is just much nicer looking and easier to deal with then the space guard one, but online I am seeing some Aprilaire 2400 filters with different physical dimensions that what you have. Should that matter?

amzn.to/3KtjKsc. That link is the one I order and they work great. They pop right into the housing with no issue. Totally recommend it. I'd want the dimensions correct so air can't pass around the filter and mess with the system or air quality.
