In this video I replace my rear brake pads on my 2017 Street Glide FLHX.
Changing your rear brakes on your Harley Davidson touring model is an easy job you can do yourself. All you have to do is buy the brake pad kit and use a couple of common tools. Not only will you save money, you will make sure it was done right! This has also fixed that embarrassing squeaking when I hit my rear brake. Make sure to check out the links in the description for everything that I used. #rearbrakesharleydavidson #howtochangerearbrakesharleydavidson #streetgliderearbrakepadchange #harleydavidsonrearbrakepadchange #joegoemotorcycleadventures #harleybrakepadreplacement #motorcyclebrakepads #rearmotorcyclebrakepads #howtochangebrakesmotorcycle #replacingrearbrakesonamotorcycle #harleydavidsonbrakepads #streetgliderearbrakes #changingrearbrakesstreetglide

Brother thanks so much for this great video. Straight to the point without 20 minutes of rambling useless info. I just changed my ultra limited’s rear brakes following this video in about 15 minutes and I’ve never done it before. Appreciate it keep up the great videos.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On many bikes from 2009 up, Harley tells you to replace the pad pin bolt and clip on each caliper with new ones every time you replace the pads. Check your service manuals!

After watching your video, other than loosening the reservoir cap/lid, this is exactly how replacing my rears went. With the exception of trying to equally use the tiny amount of grease that Harley supplied with the kit, it was maybe 15 mins total. Thank you

What would happen if I do not use the grease ?
@RM-np1gm

Do you need to remove any old fluid? As the pads wear the pistons move and adding fluid is needed. With new pads the pistons are pushed back so the added fluid is now excess?
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures 19 дней назад
I’ve never added fluid. Never had a problem, but it makes sense what you’re saying.

Rear brake pads? If I have to use those, I'm already in big trouble. I changed my front brake pads on the starting grid in under 10 minutes one time!

Hey Joe, just a question and you may laugh at me. Where would you suggest to look for an owners manual, 2015 street glide, new or used. The dealers in Canada want $160 and I can’t seem to find one on eBay etc
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures Год назад
Hey Lenny, I just did a Google search and found a downloadable version for $19. You could take this somewhere to print out or just use it on your phone. Also another option is to print out the pages as you need them. Hope this helps motorcycle-manual-download.com/product/2015-touring-models-service-manual-99483-15/

@@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures man, thank you again.. the last manual I bought was $25 for the full book lol 😂 in 1992 when I bought a 92 softail custom… over the years that manual paid for itself a million times over, especially when I rebuilt the motor 2X… I’m sure it took me 10 times longer than a licensed wrench but I got it done. Btw, I watch your channel a lot and noticed you riding w Robert simmons. 👍

Does anything change if you have ABS?
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures Год назад
That I'm not 100% sure. I just think there's an extra peice for the ABS. Should pretty much be the same process. I would check though.

U absolutely do not need to remove brake cylinder fluid cap!!!!!!!!!!!!
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures Год назад
Well, you're right. However, it makes it a little easier to push the pistons back in. And it only takes a matter of seconds.

hey joe... if you`re going to film an instructional video and show`n tell just about everything re harley touring models front brake job ...then why would you skip the bolt torking numbers ????
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures
@JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures 9 месяцев назад
Because when working on your bike, it's important to have a service manual in order to reference to the torque specs. Some people may watch this video and think it may apply to all touring models. Here are the torque specs in my service manual for my 2017 Street glide FLHX. You should still refer to your service manual to make sure these numbers are correct. I don't hold any liability if these numbers are incorrect for your motorcycle. Brake Caliper Pad Pin: 75-102in lbs Brake Caliper Rear Mounting Screws: 43-48ft lbs Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Cover Screws: 12-15in lbs
