I haven’t cleaned my ps4 since I bought it in 2013, but Red dead redemption 2 is making it sound like it’s about to blow up

This is how a tutorial is done; short but detailed and to the point.

For everyone trying this, on some models it seems the power supply cable is glued or melted together and won't disconnect at all by "wiggling it out". I don't advise removing it at all. I gently lifted out my power supply with the cable still attached instead! Cleaned and back up and running fine. Thanks for the video though, but please be careful everyone.

My PS4 is so dirty that it can't play CPU-heavy games without overheating and turning off. We cleaned the fan but we don't have the bravery of removing the power supply to clean the heatsink.

Great tutorial! Despite it's age, I just had my first go at a PS4 clean, and this was well walked through, made it super easy and took me less than 10 mins in total! Just a few tips and tricks from my experience: 1; When removing the 4-legged multicore from the powersupply, wiggle it sideways and with patience! These types of wires and plugs should always be one of the main concerns when handling electronic components, as they're fragile. 2; When disconnecting the powersupply itself from the socket, consider to use a flatheaded screwdriver or similar tool, to gently slide underneath edges of the powersupply element on the left side, as an assist for an even and level upwards pull. Also, in reverse order, make sure to allign the powersupply element and position it carefully, before pushing the left side back in place. A slight offset, and you'll be dealing with straightening out the forks again. 3; As a full-time service engineer, handling and cleaning very complex and expensive electronic components for professional stage lighting equipment, I prefer to use nothing but compressed air. BUT! - you HAVE to make sure that ALL dirt gets blown out! No matter if you're using brushes, cotton sticks, cloths, or compressed air. Chances are that the dirt relocates to other, and possibly, more sensitive parts of the electronics, and worst case, it will cause a fire or short a circuit and the PS4 is done. 4; IF you're using compressed air, make sure it's all dry, and without any sort of condensed water. If it's air-spray, then as mentioned in the video, beware of icing. Should it happen that you get icings or the nozzle condenses, then keep an eye on the affected area, and do not assemble or connect the power to the device, until fully defrosted and dried up completely! Make sure to hold the fan itself in a locked position when cleaning, to avoid the risk of generating any false power in reverse to the system or burn out the fan itself. I'd say it'll take you less than 10 minutes, if you have any basic experience and confidence in handling electronic components. If not, don't be stupid and rush yourself through it, take your time! As mentioned above, inside electronic devices there's plenty of sensitive and fragile bits n' pieces that will definitely break if you're not careful, and might break even if you are. Just keep your eyes open and literally, do not touch anything that is not required for this maneuver to work, and you'll be fine! Common sense people! - Also, make sure to backup all game progress or personalized data of the console. When rebooting, it MAY want to do a safe system reboot from a previous state of it's lifetime, just to be on the safe side! Have fun, and thanks for the video GTRBytes, great work!

My PS4 only has two screws In the back but even when I unscrew them I can’t get the cover off Edit: I was able to use a little metal tool to get between the cracks and pry it open

I have the PS4 when it first came out and it's never been clean it just started to overheat like a week ago

Our PS4 has been sounding like a jet engine for quite some time. I just cleaned it as outlined in your video and it now seems much quieter. Thank you! 🙏I did not unplug the connector as there was plenty of cable, so I carefully removed the power supply and placed it upside down, next to the PS4. My son is now playing Fortnite and all is quiet. 🎮💤👍

A tip for those who can't undo the connector or don't want to risk breaking the wires, use something as leverage to push the left side up before lifting the right, once you get the battery out just lay it down on something about half an inch thick next to your PS4 so you don't risk breaking the wires.

Worked great for me. Mine used to sound like an airplane taking off. It's quiet now. I didn't have the small flathead or security bit. I used a T10 torx bit and pushed it on hard and the screw came out. Thanks for the video.

Clean and simple instructions on how to fix the fan on your ps4! Worked wonders for me! The only two things struggling for me was that I didn't have compressed air and never managed to unplug the power cable, but I could still clean it good using my lungs. Result? From hairdryer to table fan while in-game in RDR2. THANKS A HUGE LOT!

Thank you for posting! I was terrified to open up my PS4 but I’ve had it since launch and it has started to run loud. The safe clean from the outside just wasn’t cutting it. Your video made it nice and simple though and not so terrifying. Got it all cleaned out, booted up, and now it’s running nice and quiet/cool again.

Great tutorial! This helped me clean my PS4 out perfectly. turns out it really didn't have much dust in it, aside from the fan. One quick point tho, for anyone who is wondering, if you have a T9 screwdriver, it also works with these security screws.

Hey man, any tips for removing the connector? I tried this yesterday but it was fairly late and had been cleaning my PS4 for a while. Also would a vacuum be a good/decent alternative to compressed air (for the heat sink), or should I just use cotton buds? Also the vacuum can be detached as a hand held with the tube on it too.

First time I've removed power supply etc. A test of nerves removing the little connector. Found it easier to lift the power supply first. Cannot believe the difference it has made. Great vid.

I only have 2 screws in the back and my ps4 is complete different from yours. Help... my ps4 shuts off and overheats very fast. I’ve wiped off the dust on the outside but it’s still overheating and shutting off

In all seriousness thanks for this, I've been going apeshit looking over tutorials where everyone has everything stripped down already when i just want to access the fan and heatsynch and never mentioned that wire for the powersupply or the resistance lifting it being normal.

Don't use a vacuum unless it is an electronics vacuum. Vacuums can build up tremendous amounts of static electricity.

Dont be scared of cleaning it. Its really easy. If the PS4 sounds like a jet taking off when you launch a heavy game, you should definitely clean it. Just blowing hard on the right spots and using cotton thingy for the fan makes wonders. Thumbs up, thank you for the great tutorial.

Great video, I have an original PS4 that was bought many years ago and I have never taken it apart and cleaned it. Needless to say I was pretty shocked at how much had built up inside of it. Console still sounds like its going to take off into space though.

Thanks for the tutorial. Didn't follow it to the letter as i had no compressed air so i mainly just used a brush and blew into the part you pop out. Worked a treat. Now my ps4 doesnt sound like its going to space anymore. Its silent...

I just ordered the tool.. some bugs got in my ps4 and made it smoke so i turned it off.. gonna clean it out when the tool comes tomorrow.

Before watching vid; ps4 sounded like a hair dryer, very distracting. Now starts up and then goes quiet, its brill playing on a silent machine (although I had to restart it to check the fan works as it was so quiet after start up I thought the fan had stoped working!) Thanks so much

I'm doing this for my PS1 - PS3 Collection for years now, collecting way over 50 consoles and repairing and also selling them. Had trouble removing the Case (lol 😂🙈) so I watched your tutorial. My PS4 sometimes sounded like a Rocket lifting off... Exitet how it will sound after cleaning. I will tell you the result 😬😁 EDIT: I can't here my PS4 anymore, a bit awkward lol... Even running HZD or Witcher 3... Unbelievable 😂

I had problems removing the screws. Every video I have seen recommends t8 but I had to use t9. I have seen not all t8 screws are the same since I bought 7 different screwdrivers that says t8 and they are all different sizes for examp;e one said cr-v t8.

Get a silent fan, put it on the left of the ps4 if you look at it's front. The ps4 won't have to work hard and you can enjoy heavy games like reddead2 with no heavy fan noises ever

I am having a lot of trouble taking off the bottom of the PS4. I unscrewed the 2 screws I had tried prying it off with a lot of force but nothing happened. Any suggestions on how I should do this?

Youre amazing my man! Did this last night and works like a charm. Even with modern warfare. Even cleaned inside the power supply and had it put back together without any problem. I’ll share this video with anyone who has this issue with their PS4 (original I’m assuming). You know you don’t have to remove the power supply and just simply flip it over too

if your careful ... you dont have to wiggle that one connection. mine wouldn't budge and i just lifted it out and held while using a can of air. Perfect!

Great tutorial although the heatsink part isn’t very accurate. I disassembled my ps4 fat because I was applying new thermal compound on the APU while doing that I was cleaning my ps4. I took out the whole heatsink and realized the dust is really clogged on the other side (directly where the fan is blowing not the side where the power supply is) so yeah after doing so my ps4 is quite even when playing games.
