@@Gkmc-46vgz Nah not really you just need like 2 screw drivers and a can of compressed air. You don't need it, but some q-tips with rubbing alcohol is good to hit the vents and crevices. It took about 30 mins total to clean mine and turn back on and game. Maybe a little less, because I had to run to the store to buy some q-tips.
I usually never bother with my PS4 unless I need to use an air hose to blow out the dust. The only dmg to my PS4 is the *beep* sound for turning it off and on cause I left it on for too long
After following these instructions, my PS4 is the quietest it's ever been. Thanks for making such an easy to follow tutorial. Almost 2020 and this is still the best way to clean out your PS4
@@DisorderlyGamers my air spray can ran out pretty quickly 😂😂 and half the tools were the wrong ones but I clean most of it including the fan and it still is loud
@@tonystooraw1351 the red symbolizes that' the console is overheated which is bad in cases where the fan can have to much dust to the point where its loud af fix it immediately or take it to gamestop
This is a good, comprehensive take-apart/cleaning video. No unnecessary unscrewing of anything that may jeopardize the operation of the PS4. Great job, dude!
Don't ever put your can of air at a 90 degree angle, there's even a warning on the can that says "DO NOT TILT CAN WHEN SPRAYING". If you tilt the can it causes the air to become liquefied, thus you end up literally spraying water in your electronics.
dude liquid air is not "literally water", just the fact that its liquid doenst make it water. but yes i see why liquid air in my console would be a problem, since it would freeze everything to ridiculously low temperatures and might condense some of the moisture in the air
Man can't thank you enough, I did clean my PS4 long back but not thoroughly. This time I did everything just like you and cleaned it with q-tips and cleaned everything properly. I managed to clean it about 90% I think. I can't tell you the difference it made! My PS4 is so quiet while playing BO3 it's actually scary 😂
Benzooma not long maybe 15 mins, just make sure you buy the t8 torx security bit not just the regular t8 bit. I bought just the regular torx bit not the security bit and had to use a small flathead bit since the torx didnt fit.
This is a piece of piss. Literally can do this and put it back in 5 minutes. The guy just goes slow to make it idiot proof for people. Taking everything out of a pc to clean it good, and put it back? Now that's a bit trickier.
James Thomas yep maybe nervous as he'll but now I do my ps3 every month it still works perfectly I wanna do my ps4 take care of it and it'll lost a long time just wish I did the same for my xbox 360s
Don't be scared. Anyone can clean their PS4, it doesn't take a professional. My PS4 sounded like a jet engine for months. My room upstairs sounded like it was about to seperate from the rest of the house and take flight. I waited too long to clean it and one day my fan broke and another component as well (luckily I had an extra PS4 to replace the parts) all because I didn't clean it which is easy and only takes two seconds. So if you noticed your PS4 has been loud clean it ASAP. Hardest thing was finding a screwdriver that fit right. Luckily I was able to find a tiny flat head screwdriver that I was able to use and take the screws out. After that it's SIMPLE. Take the PS4 bottom cover off and just use a straw to blow inside the fan and other dusty areas (be sure to blow in areas you can't reach or see). Pick out the clumps of built up dust in your fan with a toothpick or tweezers (try not to spin the fan as you clean it cause I read somewhere that it fucks the fan up) And then just gently wipe down the PS4 with a cloth afterwards. Mine works perfect now and purrs like a kitten. As for the power supply, it's not 100% necessary but if your PS4 is REALLY dirty id suggest taking it off and cleaning under that too. It's super easy. It's a rectangle with just four screws and one wire (Don't be scared to pull the wire out, it clips right back in) you can't miss it. After you cleaned it then just put the power supply back in, reconnect the wire, screws, put the bottom cover back on the PS4 and you're good to go. It's easy af and your PS4 will last A LOT longer and will be A LOT quieter. Don't be skeptical to try this. There's no way you're going to break or ruin anything as long as youre not forcefull and follow the directions I gave you or in this video. Like I said, anyone can do this. And you and your wallet will thank yourself in the long run because your PS4 won't eventually break like mine did.
This works really well. My PS4 went from jet engine taking off to making as little noise as when it was brand new. Thanks to this video I was confident going in, and from start to finish it took me about 15 minutes, smoking break included. Loud PS4? Do this, trust me, you'll be a happier man afterwards. Thank you for the help!
READ THIS COMMENT BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO: I have gotten many repeated comments on certain topics so I am going to address them here. 1) DO NOT LET YOUR FAN SPIN UP WHILE YOU ARE SPRAYING THE COMPRESSED AIR AT IT. This can cause the motors of the fan to generate a current, and can damage components of the console. You can put a Q-Tip or something similar down between the fan blades to prevent it from spinning, Or hold it with a finger, or tape it down. 2) You do not need to remove the 7 screws from the top of the console. I was rushing to put out this video, didn't think it was ever going to get any views, and forgot to take that part out while editing. Also, taking out the hard drive is not required, I only removed it because I found some in the slot where the drive goes. 3) Keep in mind, I mentioned a T8 Torx SECURITY Bit for a reason, you need the security variation. 4) If following the steps still doesn't help, you may need to reseat your heatsync and replace the thermal paste. I have not made a guide on this yet. 5) Do NOT tilt the can of compressed air to the side or upside down when spraying. Also, spray in a swiping motion, such that when you first start spraying, you are not pointing the can at the console. Then, swipe over the console, and release.
I was able to use a 1.44 mm flathead to break off the safety tab and then use a t8. Or the flathead was able to wedge in against the safety tab and get a couple turns to use a pair of needle nose pliers to finish. The screws arent really tight so you can get em off if you really want
prodigygamer it damages the bearing in the fan. If we can call it bearing. Fans have a limited life time so its important not so spin it faster than it should.
I was terrified of doing this on my own, but I was very careful and followed this video as you presented it, I am now extremely terrified that my ps4 is THIS quiet. I have an unsettling feeling the silence means something bad now😅 LOL.
Another tip... don't let ur fan spin up while ur hitting it with compressed air... it will generate a small amount of power and feed back into your motherboard... now u might be able to get away with it a bunch but if it does mess something up its gonna make for an expensive day
Couple of things to note. There is no reason to remove the security screws from metal casing where the hard drive is. Yes you will want to pull out the drive and blow out that area. But removing those 7 other screws is a waste of time. Remove the 4 from the rear, pop off the bottom, Remove the 2 long screws and the 3 security screws from the power supply. Now your ready to blow out the fan and cooling blades. Another tip hold the Fan steady with a finger to prevent it from spinning while you blow out the dust. Not doing this can damage the fan's spinning motor. Hope this saves users some time and frustration. I can't tell you how angry I was getting with some of those stupid security screws and my bit not fitting it right.
Me, an even bigger intellectual: watching the screen in the upper-right hand corner that's displaying what he's recording with a slight delay, which is visible from 7:55 to 11:08
That's because PS3's hardware is a thousand times better than PS4's which is pure crap, everything on PS4 was made with lower quality.Even the controllers...the battery and materials of the DS4 is a joke compared to DS3.
I was cleaning it and I accidentally picked something out when I was cleaning it cause I was cleaning the vent thing. After that it was making a sound like my ps4 was about to Take off. After a while it started over heating and a couple days later it completely shut off
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I did it slowly and by the numbers like the damn thing was time bomb. Plugged back in and fired up Ghost Recon Wildlands which used to make the PS4 sound like a car in idle with the AC running in July. It doesn't make a SOUND now. Feels good, man! Thanks again.
My ps4 sounds like a jet so I opened the os4 and there was like no dust bit I cleaned it and nothing happened and it took 2 hours and now I'm very salty
Frohan 007 then you need to replace the Thermal Paste. It needs to be moist if you want the jet engine to stop. I recommend not doing anything stupid to the motherboard, It's sensitive and if you fuck the motherboard up, i can guarantee that you need a new PS4.
@@therealvoltix thermal paste isn't that expensive. If you're scared that you'll break something under any circumstances you can always visit a local game shop and ask them for a repair.
Make sure to keep the can of compressed air upright when spraying! When angled, it will spray out liquid. I looked up what the liquid is and it’s apparently not harmful to electronics, but it’s not worth the risk.
Same but if you just follow along with him and make sure you keep all the screws as not lose them your golden. Don’t spin the fan blade with air, hold it still while you spray air, and you can always re watch the video if you forget or are nervous about putting it back together. The only per say risky part is the fan and being gentle with the power supply.
you should not let the fan free spin at high speed, its not good for the brushes as they git nicks in them and not work as intended/normal. use a toothpick or something to stop dont push down/hold in place to keep it from moving. other then that great vid thumbs up!
My ps4 sounds like 80 lightsabers spinning at once... I cant do this because of the lack of materials.. but is the very first step a good way to quiet the fan?
As of 2018, this is no longer the case. Removing the stickers on the back does not void the warranty. "The new limited warranty terms now allow PS4 (and PSVR, PS3 and PS Vita) owners to void the seal and open up their systems while still retaining Sony’s warranty, although the warranty does not apply when the system is damaged due to opening it. A subtle change, but still an important one as it appears that Sony will now have to prove that a system was actually damaged due to opening it instead of merely saying the warranty doesn't apply as the seal was voided." wccftech.com/sony-playstation-4-waranty-seal/
Perfect tutorial. My PS4 went from sounding like like a doomsday machine starting up to no sound at all as i play GTA V. Thanks for the video, all substance and no filler.
If your ps4 has the security t8 torx screws that have the metal rod in the middle, you don't need a special torx screwdriver for it. What i did was just place a small flat head screwdriver into the hole of the screw and twist clockwise. The metal rods are easy to break off so you can use a normal t8 screwdriver to remove the screws.
Followed this to the letter and now my son’s 5 year old PS4 is. Like a Rolls Royce! It previously sounded like a jet engine in a hurricane! Used to actually wake me up on a Saturday morning! Happy lie in for me this weekend, cheers!
Look again, the 2 screws on the corners are behind an all black sticker. Its hard to see its even a sticker covering the screw. But it is. Run your nail over it, you'll feel the screw underneath that. Just peel back the sticker like you did the warrenty one. You only need to remove 1 screw in the middle, the top one. The 2 in the corners and the middle one. No need to remove the bottom middle one.
Just gave my 3 year old ps4 it's first clean, and I say, It needed it. This guide was perfect for what I needed and I must recommend this. The fan went from being Boeing 737 taking off to a purring cat. Thank you very much.
Thanks for this. I really mean that. My PS4 had started to sound like Concorde taking off when playing almost any game. I followed this guide yesterday and cannot believe the difference it made. I didn't have any compressed air so I took my PS4 outside and blew really hard and used a straw to get to the hard to reach bits. I also used a cotton bud (q-tip) for the fan blades. All in all it took around 30 minutes and now my PS4 sounds like it did at launch.
It's honestly not risky at all. You undo a few screws, remove two plates and the PSU (not hard at all, you dont need to unplug it just fold it to the left) and then just go to town with your can of air. Putting it all back is easy too, Sony did a good job making the fan and heatsink easy to get to since they would have known people would need to do this, I did the same with my OG Xbox 360 and had to practically take the whole thing apart.
This was a GODSEND I’ve had the ps4 since the day it came out and I never cleaned it. There wasn’t a part in the ps4 that didn’t have dust! Thank you for the very detailed and great quality video! 💜👌🏼
I've had my PS4 since launch so about 5 years now and never cleaned it. It sounded like a jet engine no joke. Just followed your tutorial which was so easy to follow and my console sounds brand new!
Powell0 You can use a really small flat head screwdriver. Worked for me Cuz I didn't have T8. Also, you can use the T10 but itll take time with the T10. Hope it works for you:)
NIce video. Put a toothpick in the fan so it won't rotate, it will create transient voltage and act a generator instead of a motor. It can destroy your motherboard!
B cube, do you think I'm a troll? You must have no electrical knowledge. It's just a fact what I'm saying, to help people out no destroying their products.
Very good information for people with not much electrical knowledge. However, I have never had an issue with the fan rotating with canned air and I've been doing just as he has since I got my first PS3 in 2006 with no issues whatsoever.
When he said that hearing the running fans meant it needed to be cleaned I was like oop because mine has been making loud fan noises for two years...then my games stopped working so uh yay 😅
Your video was a blessing bro. My console is damn near quiet as a mouse compared to my Dyson vacuum I had before. Got the console from a friend of a friend who’s had it for 9 years and never once took it apart. Bought a cleaning kit off Amazon for $10, followed your steps and the thing sounds amazing! Never could’ve done it on my own😅 Thank you so much.
Omg!!!! Thank you so much for making this video, PS4 was dying, wouldn’t stay on, did all this, machine works wonderful now, will last until PS5 comes out, thanks again!!!
See this is the problem with alot of these consoles, why doesn't the people designing consoles think about this and make it easy to clean. Dust exists in peoples homes how hard would it be to make chassie with a fan easily accessible.
Acekorv They don’t want to make it easy to clean them for one simple reason: Money. They will have more people buying new consoles which earn them more money so they want to make it as difficult as possible to fix things.
Hello! Just one question: why do you need to take out the 7screws from the hard drive housing? Thanks for the video 👍 i already cleaned mine with your video.
This is a fantastic video man...thanks for doing the hard work so it makes our lives in gaming a bit easier. Your also great at demonstrating how to actually remove certain pieces and not just pulling them out and saying "just like this". Keep up the good work dude...def a sub now
oh my... wow dude my ps4 is soooo quiet now! now more jet engine!!!!! THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH!!! I didn't remove the power supply for the HD top part just cleaned the fan out and omg its a new ps4 again!!!!
When I opened up my PS4, my fan was already clean. No dust whatsoever after 2 years of use. I even reapplied the thermal paste on the CPU, yes I went deeper. Actually had to replace one of the cables because I fucked up. Anyways. My fan was already clean, reapplied thermal paste for the CPU, it still sounds like a jet taking off when I am playing a game. Even with my headset I can hear it. So Idk.
What games do you play I hear that some games, like The Order, pushes the PS4 to work harder. And Killzone too. Mine probably runs loud but I probably got so used to it I dont notice.
Don't understand why you took off the 7 screws near the hard drive. It seems like you just took them off and then flipped the ps4 over, and then worked on the back. Am I missing something??
For anyone else doing this, whenever you put the power supply back on, the left long screw with the clip on it, mine wouldn't screw back in until I pushed down slightly on the power supply while trying to tighten it. It eventually caught the threads and started tightening.
My Ps4 have been having the Blue light of Death for a while now. I have never cleaned the inside of it and its almost 4 years now. Could this solve my problem?
It helped a lot. Was so quiet after the clean, i even had to check if je it was even on. One thing, why remove the 7 small scres on top? I didnt see where it was for. Thanks!
I had so much doubts thinking I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. I just want to thank you for this video, now my PS4 is very quiet and it doesn’t tell me it’s too hot anymore. Phew!!
