Sam, I'm not a hairstylist. I've been fascinated with haircutting since I was a child. I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut my own hair! I watch your videos to maintain a nice looking fringe all the time between haircuts. Your demonstrations and techniques are wonderful! Thank you for your videos. They are very much appreciated!

Just wanted to thank you Sam for really taking the time to go over your techniques slowly especially for those of us who have been out of the field for awhile and are looking to get back into the field but are lost to the newer techniques of cutting and coloring. Oh my goodness Mr. Villa, you just helped me to frame my wig to my face beautifully ! I am learning to to style my hair and my wigs to suit my face and head because I can't afford to pay salon prices. I have an at-home hairdresser come visit me. They are usually a lot cheaper than salons as they are working for themselves and have no salon to give a cut of their pay to. See if you have one operating in your area. Facebook is a good tool for finding one xXx

I just did this on myself after watching video, i love it, turned out great. P.s. i know cutting your own hair isnt best, but im super careful and go little at the time and have been doing it for years now just to trim my ends and frame face subtly, nothing dramatic, i like long hair. I had my hair ruined years ago in a salon and i have curly hair which grows soooooo friggin slow... im never trusting anyone again (also cant afford expensive pros to do my hair :c) Great video!

I love this! We learned your technique in school. This is something that is so easy to get very wrong. I also find that if you have a receding hairline it's good to take a slightly bigger circular fringe section and use this trick!

this is what I always ask for when getting a haircut--indicating that I am comfortable only with anything longer than the end of my nose--you cant imagine how it feels to come out with layers that wont even stretch to reach my eyebrows--it has happened to me three times--when I went in with long long hair--im glad someone is teaching how to give this cut--just wish I could find a styist to do it

I have cut my own hair for years. Shoulder length, and I would rather practice than, pay someone else to practice. This is a great video. Just go at it cutting a little at a time. Good luck.

I just don't get how stylist can't even do a simple trim without butchering me. I think many times it's done on purpose. Even more so when you have long hair. Jealousy maybe? I rarely let anyone cut my hair but the last year or so I've been going to our local beauty school. They take longer but they do way better there. I let them know what I want, the instructor gives them some guidance and will come back and check. So far so good! At a beauty shop I'm more scared of them messing up my hair. Sad.

Sometimes you just want your face framing to be trimmed up. And hairdressers now refuse to do it unless you pay for the whole cut. Back in the days they would charge a small fee and just trim your feathers without the need to cut your whole hair. So I’ve been using Sam technique at home in between cuts and everyone always thinks I’ve had a hair cut. But it makes a difference!!!!

OMG! Im sooo exited to cut my hair! Last year when i was 11 i wanted side swept bangs and it turned out AWFUL! I had nooo experience, but now i know exactly what to do! Reaction of parents: I was crying when i came to the bedroom, my mum was sleeping then she heard me cry, she came to me and said whats wrong and i said i cut my hair, she said so what? Its ur own hair and u do what u want with it, if u cut ur hair its not gonna kill me is it? LOL i was soo relieved
