HOW TO EAT MORE SALAD! Build an At-Home Salad Bar and 5 Other Tips!
In this video, I'm sharing 6 tips for making better salads at home and showing you how to build an at-home salad bar so you can whip up a top-notch salad at the drop of a hat.
The 6 Salad Tips:
1. Variety. When you're shopping for salad ingredients at the grocery store, look for a nice mix of colour and texture. Instead of buying just one kind of lettuce, pick up some red cabbage, radicchio, sprouts, herbs, etc.
2. The right tools. Buy a salad spinner and use it! Wash your salad greens and make sure they're super dry before assembling your salad. Your salads will be much more delicious if they're not full of water.
3. Sink into the task! Instead of rushing through the process, get a great podcast in your ears, spend some time cleaning your kitchen and making yourself a nice little environment so all the washing, the spinning, the chopping, and the grating, is a pleasure.
4. Build an at-home salad bar! Make a trip to the restaurant supply store and pick up a few plastic inserts and a half sheet pan so your salad system is super organized. It all fits so nicely! Then carve out a little section of your fridge to dedicate to your salad setup. It'll make it so a salad is the first thing you reach for when you open the fridge.
5. Make a weekly salad dressing that conveniently sits in your fridge door and carries you through the whole week of salads.

6. Love your bowl! It sounds a bit funny, but having a lovely (large) bowl that excites you will make it much more likely that you'll want to use it! I bought my favourite bowls at a local maker's market and I love using them as often as possible. It makes the whole experience that much better!
Bonus: I found a website where you can buy these containers online:

I'm Paula. I'm a former professional cook and overall eating enthusiast.
I started this channel because I love making dinner and I love eating dinner.. but mostly it's because all I've ever wanted in life is to have my own cooking show. When I didn't get a callback after submitting my tape to Food Network in 2003, I put that dream to rest for awhile. That is until I clued in that I can do it myself on RU-vid!
I love sharing the tips I've learned from professional kitchens, as well as tidbits from my holistic nutrition education. But mostly I just want to show you how to make dinner. (See what I did there?) 😄
My cooking style is simple but flavourful. I cook with a lot of veggies but I'm not vegetarian. A typical dinner for me is plant-forward, budget-friendly, non-fussy, and really delicious. As a step-mom, I make a lot of family-friendly comfort food, as well as a lot of simple, indulgent dinners for one (or two).
