Peter your videos are really getting good, interesting and high quality. It's a bit Peter McKinnon sometimes but honestly i like yours better. PM is a very nice guy and does great stuff but it's become a bit the same and i find myself usually fast forwarding his stuff. His stuff has become more him, cool shots and very little about how, why and the process of doing stuff. Your videos especially like this one are more down to earth and you take the time to cover the topic and explain the steps and progress. It wasn't meant to be a comparison, rather a recognition of your stuff getting constantly better. I wish a healthy growth of your subs and are looking forward to your future stuff. Well, my friend. First after watching I subscribed and liked. Just really educational. I play with very little video because I am clueless on how to make it interesting and not just straight filmed footage. Insightful tutorial. I think I need to back up my whole process to getting banger shots like you! I have this editing process down, but the clips you shoot are incredible! Also, what happens after your edit and upload... storage, the consolidation, compression? Id like to learn how to save HD space from all the files I shoot.

Hey Peter. Love your videos, they are high quality. My question is that how are able to record with little to no noise in the first 30 seconds of your video (there is no grain whatsoever.)? Does iso settings in the camera make a huge difference. I'm not sure if I'm setting up my camera right with the right iso. What settings are you using in your camera to get that high quality look in the dark with no noise? Thank you

Great vid, less of a tutorial, but better in a way, just a straight look over your shoulder at how you put this together. 100% agree the hard cut is the best cut. Its just about knowing when. For rhythm, continuity and storytelling. I’m learning all the time. One day I hope to be able to “cut from the gut” and smash a killer edit out in minutes rather than hours, like a super pro, but I still have a lot to learn.

Thank you for this great video Peter! :) I am looking to add a twinkling star effect at certain positions on a video frame or on an image in fcpx (something like a colgate smile tooth twinkle but in more locations on the image). I introduce an object at one point in the video and I want to emphasize it at certain points using twinkles. So I need something like an effect that will let me add the twinkles exactly where I want them on the image, and via video animation I will composite opacity so that they will appear at the time I want them to be there and disappear when i need them to go. Do you have any idea how i can do this using whatever is included in fcpx?

Dear Peter, when I export video to DPX image sequence in fcpx or compressor then all colours are washed out like applied colour correction etc but in premiere pro or encoder not facing this issue... any solution for this issue from your side it’s appropriate.

I'm not Peter, but the animation effect you're talking about is called "Motion Tracking" and there are a few videos on here with tutorials on how to do it! I hope I helped somewhat at least! lol

Instead of cutting with the blade and deleting the remainder, use Option+[ or Option +] so it cuts your time in half. I actually remapped mine to 'z' and 'x' on my keyboard. Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan!

They are usually called "callouts" or search two words "call outs". Otherwise "animated titles" or "animated text". Most searches revealed paid for plugins so if you find a free tutorial let me know? :)

This video didn't really go over the technicalities of editting within FCPx - however - he did a pretty good job of going over his ideology: how he approached piecing together the video. The understanding of how important conceptualization is has been something thats gone over my head ALOT. So even though it wasn't exactly what i was looking for initially, I definitely needed it and I'm glad I watched it

Using the import feature in Final Cut Pro X, it sees my SD card and I import straight into camera related events for the project. Being a vlog channel, I have a library for each month, rather than each day! I use the save to folder option to auto-create date based folders which then are synced automatically to my NAS. Using separate libraries every day would be a bit cumbersome after a month or two!! Also importing into a library would hide the files behind and fcpbundle, so I avoid that.

I guess we all have different ways of working! I've found this to be the most foolproof way of having a healthy workflow with good backups and stuff! As long as what you do works for you! Thanks for watching!

PLVLOG Too true. At least I separate footage from different cameras, though I need to keep source files out of the FCPX library or event bundles, a nightmare to back up!

I think i haven't covered this, but yeah i do upscale a lot of footage to 4k, i think it works great actually. Usually i edit my videos in a 1080p timeline and then change before exporting. Thank you!
