Thx for the vid Dave 😉 But one thing ive never been able to figure out is why double up an elastic ? Why not just use a thicker single one ? Thx in advance an amateur angler 🥴
Hi Ste, the doubled up elastic is slightly harsher on the strike allowing the hook to penetrate the bony mouth of perch. It softens up once stretching to allow playing the fish without worrying about hook pulls. A heavier grade elastic will continue to be harsh whilst playing a fish, leading to some loss of smaller fish. Hope that explains it a little for you.

Hi Matthew, I'm not sure why hollow elastics don't perform well in winter. But they definitely react to extreme cold temperatures and freeze. When it gets cold original slip elastic or the Dura slip is the answer! Tbh since i changed to Dura slip elastic I've found i don't need any hollow elastics as everything is covered with original or Dura.
With the greatest of respect that's not the double elastic which we used to use,back then you played silver fish on a 6 and if a bigger fish like carp turned up the 12 kicked in always with grades opposite to each other! It was faultless and clever! But now we have this thought process as to what elastic should I use? Some things don't change for the better do they cos we get manipulated by these tackle companys! But this can still be done with pulla hinge and it takes away that unccertainty! 👍
With the greatest respect, it's the double elastic I've always used! There is also a reason as to why i use it double up. I mostly use it when fishing worms on canals as it offers a good harshness on the strike for driving a hook home into a perches mouth but then softens up for playing the fish. If fishing for carp, I'll use a bigger elastic. No manipulation by tackle companies, i use what i feel is right, the end!
No Dave i dont think you understand! Your putting a doubled six or a doubled 3 and labled a six by preston at least as you havent explained it in your video which to me is adding more weight in your top kit and unbalances the pole! What i was saying was one had a six and a twelve in the top kit to play both small fish and unexpected large fish and is and was faultless because when the six was bottoming out the 12 kicked in and this was what i was trying to get over. End of.
