In the event that your Minn Kota Ulterra or Riptide Ulterra will not stow due to low battery or failure, follow these simple steps to manually stow the motor.

Ya'll really need to do something about these motors. Mine has been in the shop 4 times in two years and now it's broke again. It won't deploy. Why not manufacture a part and a software update so that the motor can be deployed and stowed manually. A quick search shows that many many people have lots of problems with the ulterra.

Just had my “less than three month old” Ulterra suddenly stop on me when I was 30 miles by boat from the nearest town. 54 degree water, 20+ mile an hour wind, reefs and rock walls and it just quit. Easy to work on if screws are loose and you are standing under it. Get your ass on the boat, throw in some pitching and rolling and know that if you fall in the water, you are dead in five minutes. Total BS that these units keep failing. We need a Class Action Lawsuit for this faulty product. Oh, and when you finally get to safe shore, know that you have to get the unit to a Service Repair Center and wait months as Minn Kota does not have the parts to repair these units. Reply if you want to join a Class Action Lawsuit.

I just had mine stop on me on the water. I had a quick release plate. Just took the entire thing off and set it on the bow of the boat until I got back to land and fixed it there. It would have been nice if there was a manual stow option somewhere on the unit. Super annoying.

Has this been made easier with newer models? I loved my ulterra but its only a matter of time before it gives you issues deploying Or retracting. Then it was the biggest head ache. I loved the auto deploy when it worked but i would never buy another one until they make it easier to manually deploy for emergencies.

After you do this it says you need to take to a dealer to have the motor reset. Do some searches and you can do it yourself. They should make a video on that

Pull rh motor cover, disconnect lever I think by pulling clip up. Then take worm drive rod off and stow motor and twist worm drive till the lever is aligned again. Put clip back on, should work

What is the process for restoring back after you have resolved the issue that prevented deployment. In my case it was a breaker but in the deploy position I am having trouble putting the black connector back on. I have not tried in stow position.

Instead of doing that take of the Right Side and you will see the end cover held by 2 Allen Wrench Bolts. Take that plate off and manually press the Cam Sensor up and down. That is the lever that talks with stowing and deploying the shaft. Once it starts to move you will be able to adjust the trim up and down on your remote where the Trolling Motor will go back to resetting it's self to be stowed. Removing that cap while on the water & not dropping that tiny screw to disengage that cap isn't recommended. Why??? Why you disengage that cap sure you can fold the trolling motor but ALL BETS ARE OFF FROM BEING ABLE TO USE THE REMOTE TO RESET IT WHEN IT STARTS MOVING BECAUSE THE CAP AND THAT LEVER HAVE TO BE TURNING TO ENGAGE THE STOWING AND DEPLOYING. Toggling that Cam Sensor keeps it all in tact to reset it's self. What do I know? I'm only the idiot that has had 2 24 volt & a 36 volt Ulterra. Minn Kota is walking a fine line having the Riptide and Ulterra with no manual feature while being out on the water to have zero manual stowing without presenting danger. We are suppose to do this while it's White Capping on the Lake leaning over the Bow? Not cool.

I'll forgive the composition errors, but having had to do this yesterday, I completely agree re. the manual stow procedure. I like that they show doing this while in the parking lot, as even in calm water doing it on the lake is extremely difficult and risky , even if you're young and agile which i am not. I had to travel at idle speed to get to a dock where my partner was able to assist while on the dock. I wish I understood better your discussion of the Cam Sensor and sure would have liked to have had that as a option yesterday. Now I have to figure out how to reset the motor after the manual stow (assuming I can diagnose why it wouldn't stow). The manual says it has to be done by an authorized service center. That isn't a great option for me as the closest service is 90 to 110 miles from me. SInce they wont fix it while I wait that could be a 400 mile drive at $5/gal. gas and no telling how long I'll be without my motor. Even though the batteries should have been OK and indicated so, I hope it is a voltage problem that I can tackle and then reset the motor myself. Love the technology, but it sucks when it breaks.

@@NytronX Quick Release Bracket allows you to simple slide the double pin out and lift the motor off the Bracket. This should be done simultaneously as the motor is not secured once the double pin is out. Of course, this assumes you do not lose the entire Trolling Motor as you lift it up and onto a boat from the bow! Sounds simple unless you have been on the water, let alone on the water where many of us fish which involves wind, waves, rocky reef and such.

Did anyone who fishes design this emergency stow procedure? This is about as anti-user friendly as you get. I had to do this procedure in 3 foot waves on Lake Michigan, it was awful.

I don't see how you did it. I had to do this yesterday on a home body of water that was calm, but would have been on Lake Ontario if we hadn't canceled the trip due to Brandon's war on energy. To do it we had to idle about two miles to get to a dock where my partner was able to assist having firm footing on the dock.
