How To Turn On Developer Mode On Your Chromebook Works In 2024 Does Not Work On A School Chromebook. Chromebooks at Amazon amzn.to/3OqtLYV In this video I show you how to switch on developer mode on a Chromebook. This is also sometimes called Dev Mode on a Chromebook. This method still works in 2024. Regarding how to turn on developer mode on a school Chromebook. This can’t be done as the school will have the Chromebook locked down under an administrator account and will be controlled by the school’s Google account administrator. Also, if you have a Chromebook that has any administrator account control on it, you can not turn on developer mode on a Chromebook like this either. TIP FOR BUYING A USED CHROMEBOOK: When buying a used Chromebook make sure that it is not under any administrator control. If it is ask the person who you are buying it from to unlock the Chromebook first and then check it to make sure. To check it, just go through what I show you in this video to turn on developer mode on the Chromebook. Even if you’re not interested in developer mode on the Chromebook, going through the process will definitely let you know if the Chromebook has been unlocked. Because if the Chromebook allows you to turn on developer mode, this will mean that it is unlocked. You don’t have to continue into the final step to activate developer mode on the Chromebook, you can just restart the Chromebook without allowing it to complete the developer mode setup and it will boot into ChromeOS in regular mode without developer mode. THINGS TO DO BEFORE TURNING ON DEVELOPER MODE ON YOUR CHROMEBOOK: Don’t forget to back up any important data on your Chromebook before turning on developer mode, as developer mode will format the Chromebook’s storage and wipe all the data off of it, or as Google it, a Power Wash. So if you have any important data or files, such as photos, videos, music, documents etc. Do a backup of these files to your cloud storage or an external storage drive. You can always copy these files back to your Chromebook after you have added your account on it after turning on developer mode. Also, don’t forget that developer mode will allow you to install APK files, which are the app installer files, that didn’t come from the Google Play Store. This means that the APK files have not been checked for viruses etc. So just be very careful with what you install onto your Chromebook once it is in developer mode. I don't know if you can see this but, can we meet on discord? I wanna put my chrome OS on developer mode but when I try stuff like this, it doesn't work. Please help. The main problem is when I press those 3 buttons, It keeps wanting to shutdown my Chromebook. Just to let you know, I have a Acer Chromebook.
I enabled and disabled it and just added my normal account, not my school account. Now my device isn't managed by the school anymore. Thanks! Edit 2 years later: Apologies, I forgot to mention I was leaving the school and I owned the Chromebook. DO NOT DO TURN ON DEVELOPER MODE ON A SCHOOL CHROMEBOOK YOU DO NOT OWN. I had been sick on the day they showed us how to remove our accounts and I resorted to RU-vid videos to figure out on my own.
I'm glad I watched this video, I was going to install an emulator apk app for Gamecube emulator but when I heard that doing this involves wiping my entire chromebook clean, I decided against it before it was too late so thanks for the tip. I'm not going to format my entire computer for one emulator, it's not worth it
I have a school crome book and I want to enter my personal gmail so they don’t see what I do but it’s wired by my school district and I have to give back the computer soon so idk how I would change it back if that’s possible
Thank you very much! I did the procedure but I was avoiding turning off the device because of the initialization with beeps calling attention in classes 😂 Now I know how to skip this 😂
That’s why I don’t use chromebooks guys all it is a blank page that you see it doesn’t allow game engines on chromebook it’s better to use windows chromebook is Junk I just got windows 10 for Christmas by the way my chromebook battery is trash it dies fast after charging it so I would not recommend getting a chromebook stick with windows 10 guys chromebook is a $15 dollar labtop if you pay more then a chromebook then you just got ripped off don’t get it no more cell it on market
I was following without the audio and didn't expect the beeps- out of no where those beeps went like "B E E P B E E P" and I nearly had a heart attack-
I absolutely love this channel and everything you do on here, I’ve subbed and will keep an eye on your page. Thank you for making quality videos, this was really helpful!
Hi. I'm from Liverpool England but part of my heritage is from Saint Vincent in the West Indies (Caribbean). That's where my surname, Harry, comes from. Cheers, Dave.
Great explanation! I just have a doubt about it tho. If my Chromebook is managed by someone else, does this process remove that administration so that I can activate Linux I've got to activate it, but I don't exactly know if I have to reset it or if there's another method to do so
Hi Hugo. For various reasons, this function does not always work on all Chromebooks. However, if it does work on yours then your Chromebook will be completely clean with no administrator other than yourself and you can then do whatever you want. Cheers, Dave.
dude thank you so much for telling me that this wipes everything I was about to go in blindly but I just watched a video just in case I could have lost everything if it wasn't for you.
You are very welcome. Many people show how to do developer mode but I’ve not seen anyone clearly explain that all your local data gets deleted. My video is more designed to put people off doing developer mode on a chrome rather than switching it on because most people don’t realise what’s involved and that all your local data gets deleted. Cheers, Dave.
Hi John. Thank you so much for the comment. One of the reasons why I done this video is because there's a few other similar videos out there that don't explain that you delete all the data. I'd done this video partly to put people off from doing it if they'd not realised they'd lose the data, or to at least make sure that people knew to back up first. Again, thank you for noticing and understanding the warning, it really does help to know that people do get the point to the videos. Cheers, dave.
Thank you! I got to download an Chinese education app for my son to learn. But could you tell me, it the setting a one-time setting, or it lasts forever? I mean, if next time, I want do download another app out of google play, do I need to do it again or I don’t need to? Thank you!
So I came back to this video bc I remembered I forgot to like it when I got a chrome book back on last Christmas, I'm just now realizing he has pokemon music as the background music that or I'm just mistaken
Thank you so, so much for this tutorial! I get your warnings (which are not boring at ALL because you just want to warn and give us caution). Thanks again!
@@DavidHarry So, i am thinking about doing this, but I still have some Q's that I would like answered. 1) Will it open the "OS verification is off" screen every time I open my Chromebook now? 2) do I have to resign-in every time I power on? I am just trying to be careful and know what i am geting into if I were to do this. If you are reading this thank you so much for the amazing tutorial. Cheers!
@@isaacseehausen3952 This comment was 6 months ago, but I'll still answer. Yes, you will see the OS verification screen every time. All you have to do is press ctrl+d. Secondly, you will only have to sign in if you sign out like normal, but I assume you are talking about having to sign up every time. If so, then no. Then again you probably already made up your mind about all this. oh well
@@itsyaedgyfriend9929 No and yes! I think it deletes all your files like images but if u have a saved email u can get your saved searches and stuff like that
I’m sad😞I’m not gonna do it, I’m scared my schools gonna find out or something bad will happen I just wish there was a way to by pass my schools blocks so I can’t get games and a good video editor.
I clicked on the video because all I saw was How To Turn On Developer Mode - DO NOT TURN DEVELOPER MODE and was like wa-what? The full title has clarified everything lol.
ok, so i have a chrome book from school. and since we’re getting new chrome books for next year,, will it affect the new chrome book i’m getting? like with my school email.
Good question, hopefully he responds, have you done it alrdy? Does it wipe docs from my school account completely or does it just wipe away the computers docs
Thank you for this clear video :D I have a Chromebook laying around that my company just told us to discard after they switched back to normal Windows operated laptops... Will give it a try and give an update after ;)
hey i have a home chromebook but my school account is on this chromebook, im doing this to get a mod for a game on my normal account, will this wipe the data from my school account and my current account too? because i need the school account
