Thank you. Well explained and graphically illustrated (illustration is very helpful; almost necessary and sadly missing from most tutorials). I came here looking for the FB TFA process using desktop which I prefer, although I also use FB on mobile sometimes but rarely to create content.

Has FB changed the menu again I have no "security and settings " options so I am immediately stuck This is way too much drama as this has taken me weeks I am not giving FB my cell number & am I just posted to trust any or what authentication app? Do I have to do this to continue having a FB account as it now says I have 7 days?

Hello. I just got A message from Facebook telling me to use 'Facebook Protect', but I can't get into my account go into 'settings, and privacy'. So I would click ahead to the three selections, I would select 'Text Message (SMS)' to turn on two factor authentication, but when I type in my phone number, they want A 6 digit verification code. How do I get it? I don't have A smart phone Just A desktop computer. What should I do? Should I download an authentication app?

Marc, do you own any kind of mobile phone? If not, your options for using 2FA will be limited to email because most 2FA apps or SMS require you to have a mobile phone number.

@@FacultyofApps I don't have A mobile phone, and Facebook doesn't have the option to type in an e-mail address. in the SMS page. So should I buy A USB security key?

It's really frustrating that the support team is unwilling to help. I had the same problems with my account, but an expert was able to solve the problem for me.

Pretty much useless if you don't use a cellphone. I only use laptop and you can't install "apps" on a laptop. FB needs to let you opt out of this ridiculous scheme. I want to log into FB as usual, instead of their BS routines.
