I didn't really think about this when making the video, but the staff is a lot more chill to use as your initial tier 2 weapon. If you take the bow you'll need to flick rigour, if you take the staff you just don't use an offensive prayer.
@@Tadpole69 depends on prayers I think, but the staff isn't very reliant on level at all. At level 85 the staff is only 5% worse than 99. The bow is ~20% worse at 85 vs 99. Use the dps calc in the description for an exact answer
@@PauIdenino You should at hunllef but it's not as big of a deal against the rest of the gauntlet enemies. I get around a 2-3% increased chance to hit with mystic might, which might save you 1 attack per CG. personally I lazy flick it vs demibosses only, except when i've already used a lot of prayer in which case i lazy flick my protection prayer. not worth the effort/prayer points to do it for anything else
This guide actually got me my first kill at cg, and my next 50. Extremely well done man. Appreciate you. Eating all at once, focusing on pathing/tornadoes over prayer, and knowing everything can be tick-eaten - these tips alone helped so much.
Great vid my man, being completely honest i was a bit skeptical as i always thought T2 arrmour was almost a must, but tried this out and legit first kil got my pb down from 9:57 to 7:51
Excellent video, straight to the point. And I appreciate you listing dps charts instead of just using anecdotal evidence in showing which weapon is best.
The DPS calc tip was great, only note is when you select 15% prayer boosts which anyone doing it will have, the staff becomes only around 10% better than bow rather than 25
Very concise and well made video but I disagree with the T1 vs T2 armor argument. T1 armor with Mystic might and Eagle eye below 90 defense and mid 80s combat stats is very inconsistent and very annoying. Even playing perfectly, using every available tick to do damage whilst camping 14 hp, tick eating if you go below that, and a full inv of fish you're still not guaranteed to complete every kill purely because you lack the damage output and you spend so much time eating. For you low level ironmen or main accounts who don't have Rigour/Augury and are below 90 defense, stick to T2 armor, yes your average kill time will go up to 10-11 minutes but you will consistently complete every kill and not hate yourself doing so. Everyone else who has Rigour/Augury and has higher stats, you just gotta get good.
Agreed - I tried a few T1s with 83 range/85 mage/ 85-90 melees and even when playing very optimally with taking no extra damage and consistent DPS during tornados, I can STILL die at due to running out of supplies. Nothing worse than dieing after a perfect run with the boss literally at 1hp while I noodle. I've also messed around with using T2 helm and legs with T1 chest (6 materials each instead of 7) and that works quite well!
This vid is what made me realise that I was wasting heaps of dps, even with 82 range and 85 mage and base 85 melee the kills are kinda slow but I can clear now 90% of the time. Cheers legend
Concerning DPS -- the armor in Gauntlet gives attack bonuses which you didn't account for in calcs. Against Hunleff, staff is the worst weapon when accounting for armor bonuses However, the difference is so miniscule that again, it doesn't matter. Using whichever T3 wep you get first or whichever you have the highest stats in is still preferable. And staff is still best against the demibosses & weaker mobs (especially if not using offensive prayers), tho again the DPS difference is very small
Still in the low 9's for kill times. I but my hunlifs are always 3:45-4:15 which i feel is a bit slow. My advice is always bring more food and safe up. You have to die extremely rarely to make it worth it to camp 13 hp.
Honestly perfect video man. Quick and clear instructions. When priff came out I just got used to doing it a certain way. Wasnt that “wrong” but Im that 10-11m guy atm, imma push for consistant 8’s tonight! Didnt know about the “lvl3 “ monsters only in those rooms eather. Thanks mAn!
Another helpful tip when making the first initial run, assuming you always go opposite of hunleff, to collect resources just open the rooms where the dragon, dark beast and bear can spawn. If one spawns there you know what you're first t2 weapon will be and won't waste shards on a t2 weapon that you wont use. If none spawn which is unlikely then you won't have to waste time backtracking just to check. It can save a little bit of time as well as some shards
Been trying to do the corrupted on my iron... didn't realize the range weapon was balanced on Rigour I don't have rigour and I just did the dps calc and found that (with both mage and range the same level) the bow is about 25% lower DPS My god obviously why I've been failing, switching to halberd and staff only now...
Halberd is higher damage/accuracy but you also cant attack him with it during tornado phase or when he's on top of lava tiles therefore it isn't actually a straight 25% dps increase.
Would the T2 Staff be better when hunting for demi bosses as the staff has the same max hit as the T2 Bow with augury? Thanks for the guide, I hope to get consistent 8 min gauntlet kills as well!
It's really down to preference. I think the staff is very slightly better with 99s and both prayers. I've done 1200 kills pre staff buff so I reflexively make the bow
75 kills doing T2 strat and it was super easy fights. T1 armour? Jesus christ even when I play perfectly it still takes like 16+ food and even then it's super close. Sometimes even with FULL food it's still brutal if I get shit RNG. Anyone able to do this fight with 12 food is fucking insane.
It's all practice brother. When I started out T2 armor wasn't possible to make without really good RNG. The staff was also weaker and the NPCs didn't spawn in fixed locations. It took me 2300Kc to finish the CG, had I taken 2 minutes longer for each kill then it would have taken an extra 76 hours.
IDK what ur rng is to finish the kill with 12 fish. But I need like 20 fish atleast per kill. If rng is bad even a full inv isnt enough and i need to use the blue hrt prayer if i have any pray pots left.
With 12 fish and T1 armor if you play well you have a 96% chance to get the kill not accounting for redemption and tick eating. You can play around with the simulator I wrote here: github.com/Jawnny/hunllefSim
@@SoloJawnmaybe if you’re 99 def. I’m only 79 def and get hit so much even with tier 2 armor. I would rather take an extra min or two to get more food than chalk up 10mins because I ran out of food
walking diagonally is generally faster than walking straight in this game. Going for the zigzags gives a few more tiles of diagonal movement over using the corner rooms.
Assuming monster DPS works the same as player, defense level doesn't affect damage rolls. Defense level reduces the chance you get hit or not, if you get do get hit there is an equal chance to take 0-monster's max hit.
this actually happens all the time lol. always make 16 at least. the time saved with 12 is not worth the increased chance of death. I would say 12 fish is straight up bad advice.
@@8beef4uright, im 500 kc, 99 mage, range, 87 def, rigour and augury. I have the perfect corrupt hunl combat achievement so i know when i do a perfect run lol. Theres times i'll habe a perfect run and use even 16+ food. Sometimes you noodle so bad on hunl the kill is a whole minute or 2 longer than normal lol
@@DonkeyboyWilson whats your stats? 90+ mage and 92+ range are the minimums recommended for T1. i can't dps enough with halberd yet so i force bow + staff
i was just wondering if you had any other tips? My account is iron without augury and rigour and my stats are below 90. I have been able to finish fairly easily with t2 armor but not t1 i feel like im just getting hit to often
From my experience, I have 70 def. Depending on my rng/dps then t1 armour can work fine SOMETIMES. Sometimes have food left over then other times I run out of food completely and get fucked. So I normally just do t2 bc its a 100% guaranteed kill lol 130+ kills so far with like 95% t2 armour.
So its imperative that i get all the materials in the initial sweep, does this mean i should extend the sweep with additional loops if this criteria is not met?
I do. It's actually faster to only tick eat, but I wouldn't do that unless I was trying to speedrun for a new PB. It's a lot safer to be high hp and doesn't really cost a whole lot of time
Any thoughts on the "new" corrupted paddlefish? I like to bring some 16-20 fish total and have around half be corrupted, then just combo eat every time (but sitting at low 80s def rn, so can't go too low on fish for the fight)
@@SoloJawn i don’t think that’s true. Each time you eat you lose 3 ticks, making 10 combo food saves 18 secs per run. Not to mention the safety it offers
Yeah it's kind of a dps check so the more attacks the better I'd say. Unless combo eats don't actually work that way, does anyone know? If you combo eat do you get set back 3 ticks or 6? If 6 then yeah no real point in bringing it
Absolutely unnecessary. 5:1 is much more difficult making it less consistent. Venge is useful but also more of a speedrun strat. Keep in mind this is for fast consistent kills not a PB run.
@@ThePureBarrows I've done plenty of gauntlet speedruns. Similar to how I don't recommend doing woox walking with the halberd, I don't deem 5:1 safe enough to include in consistent clears.
I do T2 every time with time to spare. My PB is 6:43 and I average 8-9 minute kills. I have 97 att/str, 94 def, 94 mage, 99 ranged. T1 armor means more damage, which means more clicks to eat, which increases the likelihood of a mistake. So no, T2 is not only for inexperienced players. (Maybe 99 def will be enough of a difference for me to opt for T1 though.)
I was cruising to 180 kc before i saw this guide with an average kill time of 10 mins so I gave this a shot and now I absolutely suck. Can't get a kill following this.
It's risky if you aren't already good at the gauntlet. When choosing how much food you have and how many ppots you have it's important to weigh time and skill. Not just one or the other
@@SoloJawn My account has 77 prayer and 75 def. I have to flick DPS prayers during prep to just to save prayer points for the fight. And I basically can never tank more than 2 hits in a row like you did here in this video. Skill can’t change that. I don’t mind if your guide assumes someone’s basically using a maxed combat account, but it would have been nice to include that disclaimer in there 🙂
@@suhkawnit i have the same build as you and i bring 3 pots, guarantees you don't run out of prayer. i don't think defence matters a lot during the fight, although i bring more than 12 food i hardly ever use it.
@@c3st0fd3rk yeah I bring 3 pots and 16-20 fish. Def actually does make a big difference. I ran the calculations; 75 Def with t1 armor (+Piety) takes 3.0 DPS from the Hunllef while 99 Def with t1 armor (+Piety) takes 2.6 DPS. So we are taking 15% more DPS than a maxed account, which is huge
