True about the Demoknights. Though when you use the Wrangler, be extra careful of anyone who knows how to charge jump to your nest from an elevated position, you might lose your head. It's kind of like how a Sniper or Spy would abuse your lack of awareness to kill you quickly. Edit to clarify: Elevated positions matter because the longer he's in mid-air, the more he can accelerate and the faster he can go, which means if you see any good Demoknight just standing around on high ground staring at you, expect a long-range charge and a crit, especially if he can easily get out of the sentry's range after killing you (like if there's a corner nearby) If you're dead and there's no teammates nearby, the Demoknight might also destroy your sentry by strafing around it or by standing on it, but that's a more advanced trick. Most Demoknights will just immediately die, and maybe spawn with the Loch-n-Load.
How to fight Sniper: 1. Press "," to open the class selection screen 2. Pick Sniper 3. Click on his head If he tries to second-scope you, you can use the revolutionary tech called "first-scoping!" It's where you scope in, click on his head, and then win because you picked Sniper.
Thank you Mr soundsmith, I shall use this to my advantage, but I think you should add to this a 4th step, pressing G immediately after clicking his head, that's how you win a sniper duel after all
quicktip: look at the walls. there are signs. so many idiots don't know what an arrow means. though I agree, the last point is a labyrinth. Still my favorite map
I've found that using the Short Circuit as an improvised flashbang is a surprisingly effective tactic against Snipers as that big ball tends to obstruct their aim giving me more of a chance to run for cover.
I had the closed captions on when randomly deciding to re-watch this. The work on that is AMAZING! The color coding, the timing, the emphasis on important phrases.. Good job all around, and so often underappreciated!

Well hot damm the Well recognized yet humble Uncle called "Dane the Sentry man" liked my comment? If I had money I'd screenshot this and put it on a Conscientious Objector just to brag
That "Spies have patterns" section really hurts my soul. There have been a few times where I was doing my thing and I get HARD read because I was doing the same thing for a bit too long. It's really hard not to get salty when that happens.
Well some spies i played against, just kill someone and get back into the same position. a lof of spies killed me and they went back to the same spot. so when i respawn i shot in the corner or in the same place they were hiding and done lol
I was thinking of this one instance where I was running around everywhere with DR, and this one soldier (who, yes, I talked with about it afterward) felt like I was being aggressive and would hang out by spawn after triggering my DR. So, when I was around spawn, he feigned me, and then just hung out instead of moving out and correctly predicted I was going to stay at their spawn. I wasn't even hanging around spawn all that much but he knew I would have stayed there. Feelsbadman.
yea i usually get a few kills (on a day that everything happens nicely) then i slowly (pretty fast) start to lower my kill rate and just swap off after about 7-10 mins
Thing is spy is so hard to play, positioning is really hard and even when your positioning is perfect, sometimes you get unlucky and a soldier accidentally shoots the wrong way and you’re dead. Spy is the worse class in the game because his weakness is really bad, paying attention and communication. While you can use communication as a spy against them such as “demo is spy”, you can use thst info to outplay them. Spy revolver does great damage (assuming default) but class like scout exists, even engie shotgun does more damage. Ambassador is hard to aim with and diamondback is actually broken imo lol, best revolver I just can’t aim with it. The only weapon that makes spy play a slightly different way is literally the dead ringer lol. But when you use it, do you want to get a kill or sit in a corner for your ringer back? And even the diamondback is only rewarded if you do “spy” things and Amby requires good aim. And if you can aim well with the amby, while not just play scout? And diamondback requires you to play backstab anyway. Honestly I just think spy needs to be more mobile, I think having scout speed while disguised is cool but that might be too broken, imagine disguising as a scout with a big earner, you are basically a demon knight charging full time lol. Spy just needs a huge buff to make him able to defend himself when he’s caught, because every other class can defend themselves in some ways, spy is very weak. Yea I get spy job is to stay sneaky but I think just something other than the diamond back would be nice
(365 hours on TF2) I started as wannabe Engi main, then transitioned into no main, then a bit of Spy, and now I'm settling on Pyro. #PyroMainRightsMatter I usually try to vary the directions, base exits, and approaches. Preferred load-out: Stock Flamethrower - a reliable choice. Doesn't require build up -by playing the class normally- so I can get to it right outta spawn. Thermal Thruster - compensates my lack of competence in Demo or Solly. Back Scratcher - the way I play Pyro usually doesn't involve my team's dispensers and Medics. All classes need positioning. Even Pyro.
Scout: Slam a sentry gun onto the ground and scout’s a goner! Soldier: Look out for his rockets! The D.I.R.E.C.T.H.I.T is really powerful so Use the wrangler and you will put the soldier in a disadvantage! and if he uses a secondary or melee weapon, just use a shotgun! Also take the high ground! Pyro: He can deflect rockets, So look out and use burst damage and control the situation you will be fine! Demoman: Disarm traps and Get right up to the Demoman’s face and he will be at a disadvantage! Also Demoknight is has Pyro’s weaknesses. Heavy: The closest thing to a boss fight you can get in TF2! Get up into heavy’s face and strafe around him and you will defeat him! Also use the environment to put the heavy at a disadvantage! Also use your ears, and Use trickery to beat the Tommislav Engineer: Use the wrangler and hud to find the enemy engie’s weakness and shoot ‘em! Having a pal with you also works against the enemy engineer! Medic: Neutral, look out for the Übercharge and stall with the wrangler and have your team distract the medic! Use your shotgun to defeat the enemy medic! Sniper: Super deadly, Try to sneak to the Sniper’s back side and give him a firm SLAP ON THE BACK!! Spy: Use S.P.A.H.S and communication and The Eureka Effect so you can beat the enemy spy and achieve success!
I got so happy when I heard "use a distraction sentry," "it's important to be able to pick your battles," and "a demoman doesn't like it when you're in his face," because those were things I had figured out on my own and it's just really satisfying to know that those are actually good tactics
i tend to stay as far away from demoman as possible because usually when i get close enough for the grenades to be not good they pull out their sword and i get sliced in half.
Closed captions are still banger. Appreciate the work on this video. Still to this day, this video is epic, cool, informative, and funny. Thank you for the cool video, Uncle Dane!
Bro one time I was playing as engineer and I was being chased by a scout. I was in a position not ideal for any of my tools, and knowing my aim sucks, in an act of desperation I set up a sentry. The scout shot and killed me, and somehow, my slow building stock wrench sentry fully built and killed the scout. That scout was so bad at countering me he couldn't take down a sentry that wasn't even built yet
@@derekg5006 Yes, that moment when the sentry slowly builds up when nobody's touching it and starts shooting at people is satisfying, I don't know why.
@DamnMerasmus Objectively false. Scout's primary is literally just a shotgun with an additional 25% damage ramp-up, and regular shotguns can still two-shot light classes at point blank.
Time to put on my tin hat and dissect this "seemingly harmless intro." It seems like Dane's Engie receives a negative response from the audience about his announcement of the construction of any building that isn't the dispenser, the classic Dane intro building. I'm willing to propose that this seemingly comedic intro is a very subtle allegory to Uncle Dane's dilemma as a youtuber and overall huge community figure for Tf2. I'm willing to bet that Dane often wishes he could try and upload something new and different than what he usually does, but he fears (and knows) that his fans and the community he's built up all these years wouldn't be so accepting of any sudden change or experimentation that he'd have in mind. That's why the Engie seems visibly irritated, and sighs as he chooses to just give in to the demands of the audience. Because he represents Dane, knowing that it'll be a lot less harder for him in the moment to just satisfy everyone's desire for the "good ol' classic content" instead of following his heart and intuition to create something new for a change. Or maybe it's just a quirky intro and I'm reading this much into it as half of a joke and because its 1 am, lol.
It seems possible. I do remember where every time a tf2 youtuber tried to play something different their comunity where like "hey, don't become a Muselk" as to tell them "it is nice that you try new things, but it will be better if your main focus continues to be tf2 context and you won't became a sell out" Like, no offense but this is a old game that barely gets updated. Ad some point there will be no more context to make about tahg fits that specific youtuber formula or they simply not enjoy it anymore.
As a Demoknight main, we tend to avoid Engineer nests like the plague, though if you are away, we will ALWAYS somehow be right around the next corner to add your head to our collection.
19:46 "Wait isn't that kinda spy's thing? Come to think of it, every class would preform better if their opponents were always turned away, doing other things"
10:26 I SWEAR DEMO SOUNDS SOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL AND BADASS AND EPIC SAYING "KABLOOEY" THERE IDK WHY BUT IT FEELS ME WITH SOOOOOO MUCH ENERGY HEARING THAT EXPLOSION IDK IT JUST SOUNDS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL
SUN TZU said that, and I'd say he knows a LITTLE more about fighting than YOU do, pal, because HE INVENTED IT. And then he PERFECTED it so that NO LIVING MAN could best him in the RING OF HONOR. And then he used all of his fight money to buy TWO of every single animal on earth. And then he herded them onto a BOAT... and then he BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF EVERY SINGLE ONE. And from that day forward, anytime a bunch of animals are together in one place, it's called a TZU! UNLESS IT'S A FARM!
Uncle Dane: "taking a look at a situation and thinking 'I can't handle this right now' will increase your longevity" me, a Heavy main, when I have 5 hp and 10 seconds on sandvich cooldown: "I have yet to meet man that can outsmart boolet"
Hey Dane, fun fact: the Gunboats actually don’t reduce the amount of self damage you take from your rockets if you hit an enemy with that rocket. So, the advice regarding demo man about using explosive self damage to finish off your enemy also kind of applies to the soldier
soldiers can shoot at their feet and your feet at the same time when you get close to them and thus get gunboat dmg reduction aswell as get distance from you and even air strafe to dodge your shotgun shot
1:30 Can we just take a moment to _respect this man's closed captions skills?_ I mean *seriously* HOW does he do all of these special effects? Italicizing, bolding, background colors, even different color text _with special outlining!_ I wish every RU-vidr did this...
making captions like these take a lot of time for a video length like this, so I can see why most youtubers don't bother with captioning their vids! luckily the program I used (Aegisub) made the whole special formatting and whatnot more easier and efficient, but it still does take time
"Heavy is the closest thing to a boss fight you can get in this game." *_FOOLISH MORTAL!_** YOU DARE TAKE THE GREAT AND POWERFUL MERRRRRRASMUS FOR A JOKE?* *You... you do? Well... Well, mortal! You shall not find me so funny come the next All Hallows' Eve, when I shall bring about **_YOUR DOOM!_* *AND NOT LIKE ALL THE PREVIOUS YEARS! NEXT SHALL SURELY BE DIFFERENT!*
I think my favorite thing about going 1 on 1 with other classes as Engineer is that everybody massively underestimates you. Even with no sentry around, I seem to do better in direct combat as Engie than I do as Scout, and the only reason I can think of for that is my opponents not giving it their all because they expect me to go down easy.
Minor note about fighting soldier: you mention getting right in his face isn’t effective because of gunboats, but gunboat damage resistance is nullified when he deals damage to an enemy. So if you’re GOING to die, then rushing into the soldier’s face so they deal 60+ damage to themselves is a decent way to trade your life.
Imma be honest, as a medic myself, I see everything as a danger, and when I notice that I'm vulnerable to the enemy, it's syringe gun for distraction and sprint near the closest teammate. If a crit-boosted engineer ran around a corner I'd be dead before my brain even processed what happened.
thats why medic is one of the hardest classes to play, you get paranoid you will die because your best defense is 5 dps at long range thats why when i play medic if i see doom i start taunting as long as its not laughing its a 50/50 shot if you live while your taunting just call over a teammate to save your life then you save theirs everyone wins
I love how the Meet the Heavy video actually (sort of secretly) gives a hint on how to defeat him: "Some people think they can outsmart me. I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet" You can't outsmart the bullets, but you CAN outsmart the guy firing them. Playing Heavy makes players just as closed-minded as the character, just thinking about shooting the gun and killing the bad guys, and you can use that tunnel vision against them to come out on top.
It's a limitation of Heavy as a Class. When you enter combat, you start shooting and kill all your enemies, or *die.* Believe it or not, Heavy is fragile. That HP pool just compensates for his shitty movement. Either you kill them, or you die to them.
@@MrAlias-oc8uk Exactly, spot-on about the fragility of the Heavy. Paradoxically he's actually not-so-sturdy, but it's because of the reason nobody considers. Getting hit and tanking
@@Eye_Of_Odin978 While that is *one* of Heavy's major weakness, most of his competitive weakness stems from his inability to position in a meaningful amount of time, which is also due to his lack of mobility. It's a reason why the GRU was banned in some cases back when it didn't drain max health, it allowed him to position faster. Heavy's immense health pool forces players to have to commit more to defeat him, either through peaking several times, or keeping their crosshairs on him. If enough enemies cannot put out enough damage to confidently win without losing their momentum during the fight, they will typically have to wait until their team is ready to engage. This is actually very powerful because it makes the game slow down, which pushes the pace towards a more defensive, stalemate-y style, and allows your team the time to get their bearings and push back from an unfavorable situation. (Building uber, respawning players, healing back up, regrouping, etc) This factors in towards Heavy's niche in high level play. He takes advantage of the situations where a slow class doesn't need to move as much to be in a place where he can do his job of area denial. Such situations involve things like defending the last point on 5CP (Not as long a walk), or positioning on a strong choke in PL, A/D, or KotH (Can get there in settup or with engy teleporters). If you're talking purely about his DM, everything you said about his capabilities ring true, especially in a state where he must be aggressive. In all of the above situations, the process he applies his area denial typically makes him soak up a lot of damage which demands a lot of healing, attributing the common complaint in high level play that he's a heal sponge.
Idea for intro: "Sentry going up!" *builds a level one sentry, which proceeds to shoot down a sign that says "Uncle Dane"* "Ain't that a cute little gun."
@@dutbud9049 Unfun still means he ought to be changed. A game isnt meant to be a wall to bang your head against. And he is OP, the big issue is the lack of weakness at close range. he can still instantly kill all of his counters when they are in their strongest environment, and thats an issue. a nerf as simple as either dropping the quickscope to 110 damage or putting a minimum headshot range of ~ 400-600 hammer units would force the sniper to avoid positions in which he could get caught out and would force them to actually think about positioning.
you have taught me how to play the class i love effectively and efficiently and now you have taught me how to deal with fighting the other team without needing the comfort of my setup too badly i just want to say thanks for teaching me how to play couldnt have learned to play without ya pardner!
I think the reason I’m so attracted to sentry guns is because I say “if I’m going out, might as well know that I can kill this sentry gun” as if the engineer doesn’t just pick up the ammo from my corpse to make another
Same, I'd left the community for 5 years back in 2012 and when I came back and experienced Jungle Inferno, it felt like an entirely new game. Too bad Valve is rarely touching the game afterwards.
