Great video, very helpful. For existing home with load bearing wall, Can you join two small beams using metal connector between the two together to make one long beam to get rid of a column holding up the weight?
So this does not account for top and bottom plates which one would almost certainly want longer than stud height. 1, What about fire blocking, is that accounted for in the stud estimate? I am not a carpenter but I do have several hammers. Question 2, do you know the current standards for fire blocking in regard to wall height. I have a shop to build with 12 foot exterior walls and think 2 may be required.
