Everything you said is pure gold. I want to point out the storyboard idea. It's genius. Some of our events were filmed by a friend, who's actually a filmmaker, and before opening the gates he just simply summarized what could be concidered as a good shot. I'm talking about 18 years ago, where the consumer technology wasn't as hightech as nowadays, as well as the club equipment. Long story short: he directed the setup and lights a way, that was most benefitial for the camera he used (forgot the brand, sorry)
Thanks heaps for this really helpful video mate! I am just starting out and have done a few videos for Dj's and clubs and I definitely need to put more planning into my shots beforehand! Been following ya for a bit on insta and absolutely love your stuff!
Oh dope bro! Yeah planning for me was one of the biggest game changer's that helped me level up. Its kind of boring to do but even writing bullet points down on your phone app or txting them to yourself will make sure you dont forget.
Very good video, im very curious what you had your rode pro set to when you showed the difference between the two clips? Doing my first gig this weekend and would help a ton!
Subscribed with bell! Thanks for those advices. This is the best club videography video tutorial I have found on RU-vid. I would be interested in which focal lengths you are using. I imagine, that wide shots will look the best. Would it be enough to run around with a 24mm 1.4 all night to have a pretty wide view, or do you think it is necessary to have it even wider, like 12 -15mm full frame? Do you sometimes need a 50mm or even 85mm to get closer to people but yet not anoying them while dancing?
Lenses really depend on your preference and location. IMO I think its best when there is a mix of wide and zoomed lenses. 24mm 1.4 is a pretty decent sort of lens for this type of work.
I’ve done photography for yeaaaars now and I’m about to dip my toe in videography at a club I shoot at. I know I’m gonna be rusty to start off with but hopefully something happens! 😂🤟🏻
Hey Davis,, thanks for your tips.. As an amateur, starting out to make live rock clips,, they've been helpful. Although I don't need the action perhaps that a nightclub requires , a little creativity for rock is handy.. I'm still struggling to get my head around some post production issues.. Do you use LUTS or other overlays?.. I noticed your overlay pack, but they don't seem to be demo'd clearly (for me anyway).. I've looked at tons of LUTS,, invariably they're good for well lit environments, and become noisy for flashing coloured lights in a low light situation.. I can do some of my own, but looking at perhaps an easier way out,, or at least a landing place I can tweak?
I suck with direction in the moment.. Coming from filming mostly cars and product photography I feel awkward telling people to do something again or asking something of someone did you ever have this starting out?
Great video! how do you set your iso? in connection with the suddenly emerging stage lights? underexpose first so you don't overexpose when the lights and lasers come in?
I been filming this summer as a beginner using the DJI OSmo pocket but I now have a black magic 6K Pro so I would like some lense recommendations for night club after movies
