Playing around in creeks and rivers my whole 50 years of life here in Oklahoma. I remember as a kid telling Pops " look, we found gold!" I think we actually did. My bf likes doing stuff like this. Even if he gets no money he just likes doing something that gets our kids and us out. For 12 years hes brought us fossil hunting, to pick up the bullets at a shooting range thats actually not a shooting range but were people go to shot, to find coal, and my kids favorite is when we go crystal quartz looking. Lately hes into pouring computer chips into acid to get the gold out of it. So he searches the dumping sites for old computers which is a way is helping the environment. And he finds really cool stuff sometimes too. Im buying a gold panning kit and Im going to take him and our kids gold paning. We probably wont get much but I think hes going to enjoy this. Its right up his alley.

Using a large magnet over the areas of your search for gold works as a good lead indicator. You always have iron with gold but not all iron deposits contain recoverable amounts of gold. The magnet helps with removing the nails and black sand quickly and getting the trash out of the way.

Rock transitions are good too. There is one road about 20 miles from me that goes from shale to tuff, then basalt for a couple of miles, then limestone for about a mile, then back to basalt, and finally back to shale. All in about 6 miles. We have found a bit of gold by the roadway, but don't go more than a few feet, as it is private land. Further along it is BLM land, but nearly vertical in some places.
@kosmow2013
@kosmow2013 2 года назад
@@mkay1957 contact points are great places to start but gold is always found with iron, however not all iron deposits have recoverable gold. Gold exists in 90% of rocks but it doesn't mean that it's worth crushing all rocks to get the gold out of it. Fine gold is a challenge to capture and anything smaller than flour size requires chemicals to capture typically. Even iron pyrites are known to have gold in the rock that has it and large chunks of fool's gold can contain gold in it. Heft is the best indicator for heavy metals but the metals may not be visible to the naked eye.

Your video supports what you say - you can find gold in places far from gold mining. Gold can travel far in streams, rivers, floods, and glacial activity, and can be found in many places where it is not expected. It has been years since I panned, but I still remember the great feeling of finding even one spec of color in a painful of “dirt.” You give great advice. Enjoy your prospecting!

The small iron nails or the small metals that are rusting away won’t hurt the Water but only add little bits of iron back into it because some plants and fish rely on iron minerals to survive, it’s the TVs, washers, microwaves and big items that will pollute the water because it’s a overload of iron concentrated in one spot that it’s releasing and that will definitely kill a habitat!

I grew up on the Consumnes river up in the foot hills of California. My dad traded an old panhead and $10,000 for 40 acres on the river in 1980, all of his friends laughed at him until he bought an old dredge and filled a bunch of baby food jars to the brim with gold in one summer. We lived in tents on the river until we finished building our house, had to live in an old trailer in the winter. My dad and his buddies pulled a ton of gold out of that river and I had amazing fishing holes left by the dredge. I actually panned quite a bit of gold years later in the same area of the river.

What you call a gold sucker we call clam suckers over on the Oregon coast . Of course we use a larger diameter pipe, minimum 4". Also; try putting your jet dry in a ziploc freezer bag then put it in your pack. Less mess that way. I enjoy videos like yours; My spine and shoulders are racked with degenerative arthritis from years of abuse so I now have to do my prospecting from the easy chair through videos like yours. Thanx and keep em coming. Cheers.....

I went out gold panning for the first time. Everything that fell to the bottom is "black sand" or AKA iron/whatever. But in that is shiny black and silver objects that lay at the bottom just as gold. There's so much limestone and colored rocks that look just like gold that I really need to see what it looks like.

Where I live in Missouri, there was supposedly a silver mine. Story goes that some local hill folk knocked over a Spanish carriage carrying a buttload of silver coins. Melted it all down. And hid it in a cave, so they would go to the cave to "mine" and always come out with these huge chunks of silver. Legendary

Lead's density is 11.34 grams per cubic centimeter. More than the other common metals. Gold's density is a whopping 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter. Platinum is over 21 and osmium and iridium is 22.6 with osmium being just slightly heavier.

And he is so right about not listening to anybody about where gold is normally found. I personally talk to people who found gold where everyone said it would not be. Also gold has a special or around it and when you come across it anywhere in nature, you just know instinctively it's gold. And don't let anybody around you tell you any different. The song 'Fields of Gold' by Sting, comes to mind.
