Generally speaking it’s not about finding a “good” neighborhood, that’s easy.. it’s about what you can afford and what your credit allows.

Crime rates only include what’s actually reported to law enforcement. That’s why you should walk around, see for yourself and talk to the neighbors before you buy/move. Larceny/theft often includes identity theft. It might also include family members stealing money from the elderly (non-violent elder abuse). Motor vehicle theft often includes where the stolen vehicles were recovered and may not be indicative of where the vehicles are stolen from. For instance, in my neighborhood we have 1-2 cars stolen a year, but 10 are dumped here because we’re close to some freeway off ramps. Sex assault usually includes child molestation, too. Assault often includes domestic violence. Neighborhoods are only as safe as the neighbors help it to be. I live near a school and have reported people sitting in cars, ducking down when they see anyone walking by. Uptick in people running the stop sign by the school? Ask for enforcement for a day. See someone walking along, checking door handles and staring in car windows? Call it in. People looking over fences into backyards? Call it in. Is there a pothole or streetlight out? Report it to the city. Since the folks in the neighborhood started doing these things a few years, our neighborhood’s already good crime rate improved further and parents are letting their kids play in the front yard again.

Hi Jacob, Thanks for dealing with this topic. It is rare for a blogger to deal with the topic at all. So, now I am wondering if I should just stay here because it seems that crime is just the same here as it is there. The Homeless or unhoused situation is the same as Vegas. So, what am I moving for if this is what I am moving too? At 62 years of age, I am not sure I can do this? hmmm, I really have to look at the reports more and see what I should do about my need to get out of California and live in a cheaper State. hmmm, my head hurts now. lolo..

Hard to "avoid" any bad areas when the entire city was lit up with tons of crimes.

That is what I was thinking given the history of LV. I looked at the historic documentary on LV and how it became LV...wow...the Mob, Howard Hughs, and the rest... the FEDS getting alll wild....wow. So it goes. I still want to move there non the less. I have talked to realtors, and they will not tell me anything about this various Zip Codes. They keep telling me, just do the Crime search on the Las Vegas PD website as Jacob and Laci have instructed us to do. I guess it is a liability issues with Realtors because there has been past issues with "steering" and "Redlining" based on Race, Class, Religion, and orientation in real estate. So, there are rules of not "steering" people, and prospective buyers or renters have to do our own due diligence as we are instructed per the police report portals. . I get it.

April Martin Chartrand, M.S. I’ve searched RU-vid up and down and most 99% of Vegas Vloggers won’t touch crime, these two videos from Jacob is probably the first time some broke it down. Also just in general Vegas tubers will make a pro and con list and crime never comes to mind. So I wonder if crime is blown out of proportion?

@@jbhobbs5747 My buddy lived in Vegas (near South point casino) for 3 years. Crime is a big problem... Vehicle break-ins and thefts are prob the number one issue. Having a home security alarm is pointless in Vegas too. The police will not respond to a home burglary alarm unless they know if the intruder is 100% in the home and/or threatening the life of someone inside the house. Anyway... I still love Vegas and like to visit...but I would never move my family there. I would be concerned my 2 teen girls would get caught up in the wrong crowd and with all the drugs and prostitution.....

Pretty much any decent size area will be "lit up" with a variety of different crimes, but certain crimes (homicide, robbery) are more severe than other crimes (noise complaint). Henderson has been ranked as one of America's safest cities numerous times in recent years.

JacobslifeinVegas sure I can agree that all large size areas have crime but Vegas also is the number 1 worst city for vehicle thefts in the country. To be honest... one of the biggest reasons I won’t move my family there is because my kids are better off in the school system here. Vegas public schools are not that good. I still love vegas to visit ...

Realistically in your opinion is Henderson a nice-safe area ? Kinda interested in an outta the way kinda area. Not too far out. Just more of a rustic area. Any thoughts??? Thanks

I think Henderson is very safe. In Henderson, the Foothills neighborhood is pretty rustic, but any neighborhood on the southeast side is a little rustic. If you want to go more rustic, try Boulder City. And if you want to go ultra rustic try Searchlight.
