Candlescience has these videos and explains that you will have some left over wax because density of water is different from wax. And they're right. I had lots of wax left over. But everything came out okay. You will need more containers.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, your formula is perfect but my scale doubled my measurements so I ended up with excess wax/fragrance 😞

@makissmith338

Where you get the 0.86 ??
@dustinkuklenz5318
@dustinkuklenz5318 Год назад
I've learned using 86% can be pretty inaccurate. I have used waxes that end up being anywhere from 81% to 94% density and in a large candle, using an avg of 86 can lead to leftover or not enough wax. I always figure out and know the density of the wax I'm using, but once you know that, then you can use the formula.
@Rabeea09
@Rabeea09 Год назад
I also think it depends on the density of your wax, because it didn't workout for me either
@therealitea
@therealitea 10 месяцев назад
How do you figure out the density of your wax?
@dustinkuklenz5318
@dustinkuklenz5318 10 месяцев назад
@@therealitea I weigh 1/4 cup or 2 oz of liquid wax. I weigh out a little more than 2 oz of non melted wax and melt it down. With a 1/4 cup measuring cup on a scale, pour the melted wax until the 1/4 cup measure is full and note the weight. Say it weighs 1.75 oz, divide that by the 2oz that water would weigh and you get 87.5, so the density of your wax is 87.5%. One thing you might want to do first is determine the accuracy of the 1/4 cup. My stainless steel 1/4 cup holds slightly more than 1/4 cup. It's probably a miniscule amount of difference but just something to note. I usually have some tea light containers ready to go to pour the liquid wax into so I don't waste it. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the calculations. I have a doubt. If I wanted to make a candle of weight 150gms ( approx 5.4 oz) as per your calculation I will get only approx 4.6oz of melted wax. Am I correct? I am starting a candle business out here. In the lable I have to mention the oz or gms or ml whatever I am doing. I have a big confusion in this. Which weight I should mention in my brand label? The actual weight of the jar or the exact weight of my melted wax? Kindly advice. Thank you

This isn't including the fragrance oil. So if you use this method you're using too much wax because you're not accounting for the fragrance oil.
@MemoryBoxCandleCo
@MemoryBoxCandleCo 5 месяцев назад
This method of finding the fill weight is to find your net weight number essentially. This number is used to find out how much wax and fragrance oil together is needed to make up the total fill weight (net weight)

Your amount of wax needed multiply by % Example 3 jars at 3 oz each 3X3=9 at 6% you have 9X0.06= your total FO I hope that helped
