In this video, I go to the supermarket, and try to find the freshest Lavazza beans I can. Just subtract 2 years from the best by date to determine the packaging date.
They do some roasting at their Pennsylvania facility but most of their beans are roasted in Italy so overseas shipping times are the big problem. If they can expand their North America roasting operation that would be great. I like the "light" roast Tierra Organic in a paper filter + puck screen high-yield extraction setup.
@@paolobittapooh its worth looking for. Their coffee is honestly good. Had once really fresh roasted lavazza espresso beans they were as good as from my roaster. Problem is that 1kg is too much, you will not drink that much coffee.
I know this is an older video but I wanted to comment as I just tried some Lavazza for the first time. I went directly from Nespresso pods to 3rd wave specialty roasters but recently decided I wanted to try what I skipped over. I got Barista Gran Crema that was about three months old. I was surprised at how well the shot pulled. The taste is fine, roasty but not burnt. A very dark chocolate like after taste, which I like, that becomes milk chocolate in a latte. However, I will say that these beans start to turn stale very quickly once opened even if kept in an Airscape. Like, I need to finish them within 14 days of opening, max or the shots are uncontrollable even with a tighter grind and up dosing. Not an issue in my household though. A 1 kilo bag is a two-week thing for us to begin with. So the Lavazza are great if I need to supplement while waiting for a shipment for my specialty beans to rest (I don't like them for about 7-10 days post roast). Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Migros, one of my local supermarkets actually has at least two brands that show the roasting date. Starbucks (of all brands!) and one called La Semeuse. Starbucks were all 5+ mo but I grabbed a La Semeuse bio mocca roast which was only 2mo old. Not bad for 13 CHF. I must have looked like such a weirdo scouring every bag on the shelf for a roasting date 😂 Anyway thanks for the vid!
Your mom taught you well! I'll let you know once I finish up my batch of Schüümli and my espresso machine arrives :)) I think, my coffee intake is about to spike...
@@diasone Hey, I just saw your message. The best I have found here so far are Kaffeemacher and Henauer, who also make P14 specialty. Of those Henauer is easier to find as you can get it at Coop. Best of luck :)
The store always tries to put the oldest item first, I always try to get the last one in the line, yesterday I got 11/25 pretty good 3 months, good beans that work well in my Magnifica S and are used almost exclusively for milk drinks.
@@kerisek11yes, that's why I use cheaper beans for milk drinks, but sometimes there is a gap between deliveries of my beans for the espresso and then it's good if you have an ok alternative in the store..
@@hamadeliterankit's probably not worth buying there then. That's an area they don't heavily distribute to therefore your beans are probably going to be older and you're not going to be getting the best out of them while praying a ridiculous premium evidently! Is there something else you tend to use locally? I'm from North America so we have quite the variety in my city
