Hey guys, today I show you what to look for when buying seed potatoes. I explain what happens when you plant them and how to cut them to get the most out of every potato. Thanks for watching.
Hello everyone, I think this was a good time to make this video. If you haven't bought your seed potatoes yet, I hope this helps you pick the best ones. Thanks for watching.
Makes perfect sense. Local store had potatoes on sale and I picked s - m sized potatoes with 5 or 6 eyes and bought those to cut up and plant. Sadly it was a sad lot of potatoes for selection for dinner but I had a good crop in garden that year.
@@jonbussey5353 as well to you! I’m going to pick a batch I have growing today and use your technique for which’s ones I’m going to store for future planting, thanks again 🙏🏽
Good info. We don’t eat a lot of potato’s but I tried growing some last year in big pots….. minimal success. I may give it another go.. 🤔 along with all the other stuff I’m growing 🤣🤣🤣
If you try potatoes again, I hope they turn out great. I will say this you guys have to be some of the most ambitious gardeners out there. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, Jon..lots of good advice here. It’s taken me a while to learn how to grow potatoes..sprouting them, whether or not to cut them up. This year I have some russets sprouting well..and I think I’m going to cut them up into two sprouts, and even some trial buckets of just one eye. I’m hoping to grow some of those big uns..
Bill, I really do think it's trial and error. I used to not be a fan of cutting potatoes, but I think it makes a big difference in the size. I would love to hear how the ones with one eye turn out. Can't wait to start planting. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed the comment.
@@jonbussey5353 will do,Jon…I’m also sending out a soil sample today, after three years of deep mulching my garden I’m curious to see if the PH has changed from 6.6, and if my horrible 2% organic matter level has improved. I’ll let you know the results.
@billelrod1779 Good luck on your tests. And thanks for sharing how your potatoes come out. Who knows, you just might be on to something. Thanks for the comment
@@jonbussey5353Jon, the results are in! I’ll try to send a pic, but I don’t think YT allows that. I grew Russets in buckets, using seed potatoes with one sprout only, and some with only two sprouts. The clear winner’s were the single sprouts. Not even close! I finally found a way to grow Grade A Russets…
