This is a journey through a tamarack swamp bog in the effort to find a 100 count wild Lady Slipper patch in Central Minnesota. It was a success! It was a fun hike in the middle of know where.
These orchids can be found in swampy bog areas throughout Minnesota. Along the north shore of Lake Superior, in the boundary waters of Ely, and down by Winona. But only if you know where to look :) There are about 50 species of Orchids in North America and these take about 16 years to produce there first flower. Be aware: Don't pick them or risk jail as it is illegal!
