Healthcare associates' degrees are really good, like nursing, respiratory therapy, radiology, etc... all other types of associates degree are just good to continue your education for a 4 years degree or to get a manager job instead of just an entry-level job in many industries in which you are going to be in charge of workers with usually less education..

Medical billing, clerical work, bookkeeping, federal jobs. Plenty of jobs you can get with an associates.

I'm going through this exact situation right now. Graduated with my associates but covid put a pause on my education... Now I'm working my first full time job this semester.

Carpentry/construction came into my mind for this caller.

For this caller I thought of "general contractor". There is a certification slash license needed for that which I'm thinking certs in general are good path fork alternatives to 4 year degrees. The two yr degree is a good needed base to establish general competencies. So... Good on all those who have done that or who are working on it.

I have an associates degree in liberal arts it is better than nothing even though it is not ideal. I still worked hard for it despite all that I was facing in my life. Being a single working two jobs at the time receiving no help from my son’s father I still had enough drive to finish with good grades even though the degree itself is not ideal. I eventually want to transfer to USF and get my bachelors degree is business. I know it’s going to be difficult but worth it one day. Had a lot of people discourage along the way but I won’t listen or let people stop me from getting my degree.

You have avenues of good advice but you backhand your constructive advice into a manner of making someone feel less than they are, I think you’d reach a larger audience if you slowed down and chose more caring words because in reality these are all your opinions- your opinions would mean more to someone if it made them feel good as well. In turn bringing more an audience to you based off of your success rate.

This was a bit awkward I agree. What is his degree in, shouldn't that have been one of the first questions?

I'm curious can you pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science after you received your associate degree of arts in general studies? Or should I pursue an associate of science degree?
@geminieric1662
@geminieric1662 2 года назад
Might be too late for the OP.... But for anyone with the same of similar question. The 'quick' answer is YES, of course you 'can' pursue a Bachelor's degree in whatever you want after an Associates degree of Arts.....and NO you don't go back to do a 2nd Associates in Science. *Now the more informative answer is 1) The best way to approach this, IMO is max out extra units while at the Community College.... meaning take some science or other area courses while there.... Often the cost per semester is maxed out where additional classes don't cost anymore.....an extra class each semester including summer is another 15 hours....which could be enough prerequisites to make transition to a science major fairly easy 2) If not..... The solution is one of 2 A) Obviously switching majors at most but not many institutions refer getting the okay to enter that college/dept of etc etc It may require prerequisites that need to be taken before Jr/Sr level courses in Comp Sci can be taken Which means one might have to do again for instance 15 units of prerequisites aka lower level 'set-up'/prep courses in that major ( be it Comp Sci or any change) again some majors are close enough ( like a Lib Arts) vs a Science where the prerequisites may just be more. But rest assured this happens ALL the time, so we are talking perhaps a semester worth of additional courses NOT an entire Associate's degree worth. ***The only other point to consider is Community College courses are generally considerably less costly and if one could knock out said prerequisites at a CC that would be financially preferred IMO why pay University prices for 100-200 level courses if you don't have to...... Perhaps 1-2 but more than that doesn't make great financial sense.

Why would you tell him not to use his degree ? To me if he spent money on a degree regardless of it being an associates degree . That type of thinking should come before he put money down on a degree . Hay what I know he might just want to hung it on the wall .

There's plenty of associate degrees that are worth it. Air traffic controllers do well for example. My son graduated from community college with an associates in radiology in 2018. He's making $62,000 now. That's not millionaire money, but it was a degree he got for less than $6500.
