Good question
@billybob-wx2re
@billybob-wx2re 3 года назад
this isn't easy to answer. it takes a long time to learn these things. however, if you're "burning out" you'll eventually get injured. if you're handling your mileage for 3 weeks and still improving, you more than likely aren't doing too much (burning out). if, after 3 weeks of a new training block you're dead tired and feeling tweaks here and there (tight spots that aren't normally tight, sore spots that aren't usually sore) and even feeling sick, you may be burning out. you're going to have to learn your own body and that's just as difficult as any training you can do
@oldfrend
@oldfrend 3 года назад
tired means you're physically worn out from exercise but the motivation to improve is still there. think of it as a 'good soreness'. burnt out means your body is breaking down and mentally you're questioning yourself and your choices. for me that line is like, 4 miles a week XD

Good info! What's been important for me is not just thinking about mileage but also intensity. Training for the 5k in high school, I only ran 30ish miles per week, but that was doing two interval sessions and a hard long run every week. A few years later training for the marathon, I've essentially doubled my volume, but I only do speedwork once per week and even my long run is at a fairly comfortable pace minus the occasional fast finish.

Within my first 6 months running, I was up to 60 miles. And stuck at an average of 60 miles, sometimes getting up to low 70s at peak mileage over the summer. And a little over three years in, now a D1 runner, I'm still between 60-70. But I'll probably be adding on some miles this coming summer.

I've always wanted to b able to run, not necessarily sprint but just run a steady pace for a decent distance, little bit of back story on me, I was born with spina bifida so my legs r weak and often have pain n my joints, when I was young I could run and play, I'd often go play basketball with friends but when I was done my joints would hurt so bad my mom would have to carry me into the house (I was 10 or younger). After a few surgeries on my ankles I was n a wheelchair for a few months, my mom got me a Playstation bcuz I was unable to do active things at the time and from that point of I've been n a decline, I'm 6'1 260 lbs, probably 40 lbs overweight which doesn't help with running, my lung capacity is garbage, last time I went to a track I was only able to run 100 meters and I worked my way up to 200 meters b4 I was out of breath! I'd b really happy if I could just make 1 lap, a mile would b great but thats shooting awfully high at this time... anyways, idk y I decided to share this with u but if u got any tips to help me out with this goal of being able to at least make a full 400 that'd b cool
@yaseenabdalla8713
@yaseenabdalla8713 3 года назад
Spina bifida probably needs way more specific advice but try a type of cross training that doesn't hurt or endanger you like biking and jf you can work up to a couple minutes on the bike then it should help you complete the 400. Good luck!

@@yaseenabdalla8713 I can bike forever! I used to bike around a loop here where I live, its 10 miles all the way around! I agree biking will help but it doesn't seem to increase my stamina much for running, I guess I just gotta start out doing what I can and it'll improve over time, run a little, bike a little, swim a little and maybe I'll get to that point

Hey Nick, since the start of 2021 I've been running a little over 80km a week (50miles) and up until now I've never really gone over 65-70km a week. Since I've started doing the higher mileage I've felt tired most days and I struggle with any faster paced session that I do. I was wondering if this is too much mileage for me because I cant really do much more than easy or tempo runs right now.
