Lovely thoughts ❤ I think one thing I have learned is that it’s okay for me to have all the clothes I have. I kept thinking I need to have only so many clothes and seriously just a couple of weeks ago I decided to just keep what I have and continue with closet edits throughout the year. I don’t need only 30 pieces. I have some seasonal capsules as it were but I live in a climate that is fairly consistent except lately the rains have come. I can wear my clothes almost all year round and I plan on it ❤ Another suggestion to maintain a positive attitude is to have a friend who ALWAYS sees the glass as half full. Positive thinking is catchy. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the future ❤❤❤

I, like you, have always been a saver, that had the consequence of a lot of turnover in my clothes. This year I have changed that and the result is very positive: I have practically 100% of my wardrobe in use and many garments have a fairly low cost per use and I buy everything without being guided by price alone. The only low cost chain where I still buy is mango and la reudote and I only buy the highest quality pieces. I've changed reserving pieces for occasions or buying things for special occasions, unless it's a wedding or something similar, I wear everything and I'll change the accessories but you have to give life to clothes and we don't have so many special occasions for me to live long enough I wear a garment. I have also learned the value of natural fabrics and I have renounced synthetic ones, there are still some in my closet that can be used but as they wear out they will be changed to natural ones. It is an ecological decision that my skin appreciates (I was tired of irritation and greenhouse effect on my skin). Another thing that I have learned is that the capsule wardrobe, the massive cleanings and the Kondo method is not for me, in the end I ended up buying more and discarding pieces that I could put to use. I'm not so basic dressing and I like to vary, and the best thing I can do is accept it and buy my wardrobe instead of regretting over and over again having eliminated some item of clothing. My cleanings are small and meditating a lot and I'm doing better. I have gotten into the habit of making combinations with my clothes before I even have them of each thing I buy and I have set a rule: I have to make three completely different combinations per garment with what is already there, that way I make sure that it will have exit before I even know how I feel (I do it in the digital closet). If the garment fulfills this, does it have a correct color for my colorimetry, do I like the fabric and manufacturing, do I fall in love with the structure and does it fit me well? It stays, if it's not perfect it's returned and I don't care about paying a refund, that garment doesn't deserve a place in my closet. And very important: I have stopped watching videos on RU-vid about trends or being the most modern in the neighborhood, I have realized how badly videos of being the most modern in the neighborhood influence us, they make us consume things that we do not like. like, we don't want and in many cases low quality. If you are like me, clean your RU-vid more than your closet and you will win. Those are the things I've learned this year.
@BriLamberson
@BriLamberson Год назад
Wow, what an incredibly thoughtful comment. I so enjoyed reading your thoughts. I like that you’ve taken the time to know what fabrics work best for you, and how trends are not always ideal. I also really like that you’ve touched on how important it is to know your own sense of style, because creating a capsule wardrobe and being a hyper minimalist is not for everyone. It’s certainly not how I operate! If you could see my closet, you would probably laugh. Like you I enjoy having many options in my workout. Sounds like you’re definitely on the right track! Thank you so much for sharing your style lessons. What would you say was the turning point for you in realizing that capsule wardrobe‘s weren’t going to work for you necessarily?
@FS-rb2bh

@@BriLamberson Thank you very much for your kind words. I realized it in the middle of last year, I was determined for a year and a half to make it work for me, in my head if they said that it worked so well and helped to dress so well according to your style, it should also work well for me. I did three big cleanings, staying with some basic elements of my style, some statements and following a palette of five colors, all very correct and according to the rules. I donated the rest and I kept the best pieces because I was somewhat foresighted with what would happen. I kept taking out the saved clothes because I needed them to reflect my style and feel comfortable with my image, but I went back to buy clothes similar to the ones I had removed because I really needed them, without them my style was lame and lifeless. It is true that it was correct, but it was not me, I felt corseted and in a uniform. So I installed an application on my mobile where I digitized my wardrobe and you put your daily outfit, a month and a half later I verified that despite having a great variety of garments, I had 70% in rotation at that time, that's when I realized why I was not comfortable with the capsules and because I was choking on them. If you look at my outfits for a week, I wear tailored pants, jeans, skirts, dresses, short and long coats, leather biker, blazer... And that's how I manage to look pretty, feel good and be comfortable with my style. Regarding colors, I use the same and I love my white, red or turquoise skirt. Starting to ignore this only brings me stress, unhappiness and spending much more money

@@FS-rb2bh oh girl! This is amazing. I’m so sorry you went through the process of purging only to realize it wasn’t what you needed. Maybe a good life lesson comes out of it. I’ve been where you are exactly because of listening to what I thought was the best advice and following trends. I regret so badly getting rid of certain things that had a lot of character because they weren’t “minimal”. You’re inspiring me to talk more about this. Style is not formulaic. It’s an art form really. For some people a formula is what’s needed. But for others they need to be encouraged to express themselves.

Happy new year with much health and love, Brianna! I loved that video and I agree completely with you about the investments who can change our lifes. Either we speak about fashion or about self care the truth is that quality soon or later always pays of. That's probably my biggest style's lesson of 2022, also my style feels now more like myself. I never thought that I would imagine myself wear a tailored vest combined with some tailored trousers (always with some beautiful and feminine undergarments beneath😉) and a pair of heels, but it seems that now I can pull off that outfit and feel completely in harmony with my effortless and timeless identity.💛🌻🥂

Honestly these all resonate so strongly with me! I have never really given myself permission to invest in my wardrobe and spend time in it, and I finally started to do that in 2022 and it feels awesome! I had so much negative self-talk and a really negative view of myself and my clothes, and figuring out what my style actually is and why I feel better in certain pieces over others has helped me so much. I've cracked the code on my style uniform and why my closet didn't feel like it was working for me, and I'm so happy with the form it's taking. And I can't thank you enough for helping me see myself and my clothes in a different way!

I’ve been on this journey for like 5 years and I am still refining it. For instance, I’ve come to the realization that clothes that accentuate my waist are my best look so although I will keep my bulky sweaters and oversized shirts, I will style them in a different way to achieve that look.

@BriLamberson Год назад
That's awesome, Suzanne! I love that you're getting a clear handle on your body shape and what works best for you. In your mind, what's the next step in the process of refining your style? What has been your biggest challenge so far?

@suzanner3894 Год назад
@@BriLamberson Excellent questions. I think the next step may be to cull my jeans and pants to those things that now fit my shape since I have lost some weight. I don’t want to just pitch my old clothes, so I will just store them away and see where they can be best donated down the road or kept if and when my weight changes…again. My biggest challenge so far is finding clothes that really fit a petite frame, as I am just 5’1 and would prefer not to add to the cost of my clothes with tailoring if I can avoid it.

Are you tired of hearing me say that my biggest style lesson in 2022 came from participating in your #parisianstyle10x10? I used a template for choosing my pieces for the first one that forced me out of my skinny jeans and sweaters rut. And they were all pieces I had in my closet! That prompted a major declutter. I have an entire bin of polyester in my garage that I've never missed. In 2023 I hope to add some new silhouettes that flatter my Kibbe body type, add a few statement pieces to my current wardrobe (which is feeling too basic) and find some influencers with personal styles that are less mainstream.

@@BriLamberson I've learned a TON from you, Jessica, Alyssa, Signe & Christine Mychas. I'm truly grateful to have a clear idea on the concepts of building a forever wardrobe. Now I'm hoping to find some influencers whose styles depart from the classic button up, sweater, blazer, trenchcoat formula. I've pinned so very many classic capsule wardrobe images that they are dominating my feed. Daria Andronescu used to be a good resource, but she's kind of changed her format to highlighting students of her WOW course, which is nice, but doesn't really tell us where the pieces are sourced from.

Brianna, I was thinking about this a lot and I dont know what to do in case I really like different styles that are almost the opposite of each other - I like romantic vibes like French romantic aka Sezane cardigan + jeans vibe, tea dresses, and then masculine outfits such as jeans, loafers and oversized blazer. And I feel like I can be one person one day, and another - another day and it['s like I have these different personnas that dont allow me to form a cohesive style.. Any tips?:) I would appreciate your input! :)

@BriLamberson Год назад
Hey again! I can totally understand what you mean. This is a super common problem that a lot of us face who especially like French style. How to blend the romantic with the masculine? I think it all comes down to getting to the heart of how you want to be perceived. What are you most comfortable in? What are you most drawn to in others and how do you want others to see you?
