Thanks, I used the packers to raise the catch as opposed to the stud which worked out well on my windows

Should the restrictor be installed with its pivot towards the window hinge (as you demonstrated when you showed how the restrictor can be fitted at the bottom of the window), or with its pivot away from the window hinge (as you demonstrated when you installed the restrictor at the top of the window)?

Not all window profiles are the same, in fact I am a proficient diy er and these can be a right bastard to try to fix to certain profiles. Beware these are not a buy one for all restrictor. I have learned the hard way.

Haven't come across a pvc window where these restrictors don't work, and I'm fitting them years. The white packers will make up the difference in deeper profiles. If they're still not working after that the window is most likely misaligned

You can buy them separately. If you search for hinge packers you'll find them. Most restrictors now come supplied with them

Realistically, how do you drill the screws into the top part of the window panel from the inside?

Unscrew the window then bring it inside for easy drilling.

Use an electric screwdriver. You can position it and the screw, then find an easy hand position to hold it while operating it. A manual screwdriver would be well awkward.

If your higher up I would say remove the sash, best with 2 people, either that or you run the risk of dropping the cordless or screws.

how do install the catch if the window is already in place on the 2nd floor? Like how do you affix the stud on the top of the window?

Can't seem to find one that keeps in open position and prevents from closing on itself in heavy wind. A bit of false security if it only holds the window from opening wider. Closing can also be harmful especially if your kid has his hands between the window and the frame.

Like I posted, these restrictors are only suitable for certain profiles of windows. It seems there are thousands of manufacturers now making window frames, all different profiles. I have had the same experience as you guys, cannot get the window shut after fixing. I now have a frame full of holes where I have tried to resite the restrictors, to no avail, and they have ended up in the bin.
