When I got sick of travelling I went back working with my dad. This time repairing windows and doors. It was through repairing windows and doors that I went on to train to be a locksmith.

Opened the (brass effect type) window lock with the first wedge. I used my kidney donor card which is really thin. Jostled it around the centre while opening the handle. Fantastic. Very easy to do. I'm off to the hardware store with the busted handle to ask for an exact replacement. Thanks a lot.
I have alpne winows fitted 2002 to 2004. Used a magnet and the two outer uprights are reinforced with steel. Checked the horizontal parts of frame and the magnet was not drawn to the frame. Is it possible only the uprights of the frame are reinforced with steel? I want to install a trickle vent in the frame.
Well 7 years later I’ve just used your handy tip to unlock a window. The only thing thin enough and strong enough was a Stanley knife blade. Yes very minor cut later it worked. The plastic inside the handle/lock had broken preventing me from re-opening a bedroom window. Thank you regards Mike
I did this with a nail file I am SO HAPPY! Windows we haven’t been able to open during a heatwave in three years are now open you are literally a LEGEND!!❤❤❤
It most definitely does work. The allen key goes between the lock and the lock keep. If you don't have enough room to fit the allen key, then use a wide paint scraper to give yourself a little extra room to manoeuvre
Great video, my window is almost identical only at the side I had bolts that push out of the window frame, the one on the right is not releasing, the one of the left is. As they push in/out rather than slide up and down, I can't use a key to slide them anywhere. I'm not sure how I can get it open.
This is a tough one. The shootbolt locks can be a bit of a nightmare. The easiest option would be to remove the double glazing and using a nice wide paint scraper or chisel, push out on the side that is free, and at the same time pry the side thats jammed away from the side of the frame. With the glass out, the sash should be a lot more flexible
Your handle lock is broken. It'll work to get it open, but it won't fix what's broken. So if you close the handle, you'll be back to square one again. Buy a new handle and replace it when you get it open
@@PaddysDiy Thanks Paddy. I actually ordered 3mm and 4mm straight steel rods on Amazon yesterday. Hopefully I can bend them. The mushroom cams on my windows are about 5cm in from the edge of my frame plus the cam pushes into plastic which then raises a locking mechanism so it's even more tricky. I will need to manoeuvre the rod between the lock and the cam. I've got bloody 3 windows to do. Anyway, thank you and greetings from Scotland.
Good video , one question does it matter which way up the springs are fitted in the barrel, noticed the outside lever the spring hole position was fitted downwards (Hole)but when refitted the spring cassette (hole)was facing on top, if that makes sense - thanks
Great video and good demonstration- thanks. BUT how does this restrictor prevent intruders getting in? Surely an intruder could do what you did to release the hook arm from the stud, and then open up the window fully. My reason for wanting restrictors is to stop intruder access when windows are open at night to give ventilation. I can see how these would work for pets or very young children, but not wiley intruders. Please advise! Thank you 😊
Y window in the bathroom is locked in a downward position, removed top screw no problem, the handle in in a downward position and won't budge to enable me to remove bottom screw, what can l do to get the handle to move and enable me to get at the bottom screw.??? Thanks in advance.
Hi Paddy! Not sure if you can help... The handle on my uPVC window is completely stuck, cannot go up or down. With great difficulty I managed to remove the rusty screws but the handle is still stuck to the window. If wobbles a bit but something is stuck. The spindle I guess. What can I do? I tried to pull hard but scared to damage window or myself. Any tip?
