Thx for that. Very competent at DIY and used to make uPVC windows. Never fitted a restrictor but have to fit one. Even better is the fact you have used the exact ones I'm getting from Screwfix. Ordered left and right will take back the one I don't need. Thx very informative.
Great video. Helped me install mine. I bought some restrictors from Amazon and they linked to your video. Pretty sure you're not affiliated with the company "Aongray".
Thankyou paddy for that video, Very nicely demonstrated and most importantly with safety in mind for those people passing below you. I've just bough some of these to fit, and they do have a little bit of weight in them so if you accidentally drop one from a height whilst fitting it, it could injur someone on the footpath below, so you could also maybe tie a string on it or you could put a little cordon around your area to reduce accidents. Safety first DIY second. Thanks again god bless
Great video and good demonstration- thanks. BUT how does this restrictor prevent intruders getting in? Surely an intruder could do what you did to release the hook arm from the stud, and then open up the window fully. My reason for wanting restrictors is to stop intruder access when windows are open at night to give ventilation. I can see how these would work for pets or very young children, but not wiley intruders. Please advise! Thank you 😊
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, how do you remove a stuck or jammed restrictor. My window does not open much anymore. Nay help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Sounds like the bar could be bent. I you push it out far enough to get access to the screws. Remove it that way. Either straighten it out or replace it
Really helpful video - thank you. Can I please ask a favour about a previous video called " How to Replace The Rollers On An Aluminium Sliding Patio Door"? Could you recommend anyone in Galway to help replace rollers on a patio door? Thanks so much
Great video!. I have top hung windows only and read somewhere i need restrictors on both sides of the window, is this true?. Also where did you get the packing pieces?. Thanks
No i haven't heard of any requirements like that in Ireland. Only problem with fitting them on both sides is that it makes it a lot harder to release them. If you google window hinge packers you should find them.
Thanks, Paddy. Helpful video. I think I have a similar window, but iI am not sure what the white plastic thing is at 3.15 next to where you holding the catch. The white plastic piece slide as long the frame, but what does it do?
Hi Paddy, thanks for your video. I have all the restrictors but cannot locate "packers" as shown in the video. Can you please let me know if any hardware shop in Dublin stocks them, or where xan I get them Thanks Martin
Search for lockable window restrictors? They are more or less the same thing as the ones in the video. Wouldn't recommend leaving the window open to let the cats in and out. These type of restrictors wouldn't offer much of an security. A burgular would have them ripped off in seconds. They're purely to stop accidents with small children. Your best looking for a catflap
Thanks, tried searching for lockable, buy they limit opening to 100mm which is to wide, I need no more than 3cm of opening so the cats can't get out. I have the cable locks on the windows, but it's a pain with my Insect nets, as the cable is so long. That's why when I saw these than actually fit on the window, I can then have my insect nets up no problem. I also have security grilles on the windows too. All aspects covered, cats, insects and burglars.
Ah i see. Most window restrictors will quote 100mm. Because 100mm is the maximum allowable distance that a window restrictors are allowed to open. The restrictors in the video only allow the window to open about 80mm. The amount of opening depends on where you fit them on the window, and it also depends on the window frame itself. So it's hard to know really
No I'm afraid not. If you deactivate it from it's intended operation you run the risk of forgetting about deactivating it. And then it will be deactivated when you need it to work
