If you happen to you buy another hat like this, consider buying the next size up from what you normally wear and then use those super-cheap (or free, at retailers) foam strips that go inside the headband to make it fit a bit smaller. They can also be strategically placed where gaps exist on parts of the hat where others don't. You'd be amazed how much better that feels compared to stretching/steaming and then wearing-to-fit (not to mention cheaper than buying a steamer or going to a hat specialist). I too enjoy the Stetson brand but have learned this by trial-and-error. Just as a sidenote, it's far better to use the special waterproofing spray for felt hats versus wearing them as-is in the rain. When these types of hats get really wet they tend to shrink or lose custom shaping.

Great idea! May I also add why your suggestion is more practical; When your hair grows, hats get tighter on the head. Get a haircut, and your hat suddenly feels loose. So your suggestion makes more sense than to get a true size fitting.

My stetson came in medium and xl. Neither fits even though i measured my head to the inch, it said i was a perfect medium and its very tight

You should leave it on for an hour or two also, until it dries completely. That’ll hold the shape as long as it’s stored correctly 👍

How is the size since you last stretched it, is it still nice and free? And thanks brother, I first saw your stetson cowboy hat, short video (For big heads) and I instantly relate haha, and was inspired.
