In this video I show you how to easily and cheaply repair your broken Tesla glove box hinge. I noticed on my 2015 Tesla Model S 85D that the glove box wasn't closing quite right, so I investigated. It turns out the plastic hinge parts broke which was causing the right side of the glove box to not close as tightly as normal.
A brand new glove box for my car would have cost $1,245.00 plus labour and tax, and I am now out of warranty, so I decided to try to DIY fix it myself. The reason it's so expensive is that if the glove box needs repair, you cannot buy just certain parts such as the hinges, door, latch, mechanisms, etc., you have to buy the entire thing as a single unit.
To fix the glove box, I first removed the two pieces of trim above/beside and below the glove box, I then removed the 6 screws holding it in. I was then able to use the broken plastic plus the metal rod part from the hinge that had fallen out, and used epoxy to firmly secure the hinge pieces together.
I am the kind of guy who likes to DIY things so I figured I could save up to $1,500 by fixing it myself, and I was able to. My second choice would have been to buy a used glove box from eBay, with a brand new one being the last resort.
