I know this video is over 7+ years old, but thank you for what appears to be a simple fix for what is perceived to be a complex problem. A little alcohol and a Q-tip was all that was needed to bring my key fob working again. Thank you for this vid!
I just want you to know I'm a single woman who is not handy at all but I found your video and was able to fix my key fob button! It feels so good to fix things yourself. Thank you for showing people how to do this, you saved me a looong winter of manually unlocking my car in the cold and snow...would have been miserable but not anymore!
Very clear, good video. If those little carbon black dots on the rubber sheet flake off or are gone, the buttons won't work. But you can buy conductive paint or ink online. Just clean the rubber dot area where the black dot was with alcohol, then paint on a new dot of conductive paint and let dry. If you have missing dots, the button will not work no matter how clean the circuit board is.
2011 Malibu, 2 Key FOBs, Two new batteries. Still wasn't working. Noticed that some buttons worked and some didn't. Found this video and I now have two fully functioning key FOBs. Cannot possibly give this video enough thumbs up. Many Thanks.
I have literally the same exact problem! 2011 Malibu, sometimes the trunk button works sometimes, alarm all the time but nothing else, lock, unlock or remote start..... I am going to clean them after changing batteries already
My fob has not worked for nearly 2 years watched your vid first time I've ever soldered anything and it works gave it a clean working like a dream thank u so much for your vid guys
Thanks a lot guys...I just tried this today and it worked like a charm. The contacts were so dirty and black. Saved me a trip to the dealership! I give this video 5 stars!
WOW!!! I can’t believe that this worked. I thought it was the fuse and the battery on my key fob. I feel like a dummy. I cleaned it and now my button is working. I’m so glad that I saw this video. I just want to say thank you, and you’re a genius.
Just found your video thanks. My unlock button was not working kept fighting with my husband to get me a new one and after seeing your video I opened mines up there was so much grease all over. The q-tips I used to clean it was so black. Now my unlock buttons works 💯
I would like to say Thank You 😊 because I tried this before but didn’t work. Saw your video and “really” cleaned out the whole fob and am a happy camper! It worked and saved me a lot of worry. thought I was going to have to get it reprogrammed. Try this first, clean every part especially the rubber contacts👍
Thank you so much. Worked like a charm! Man the inside of my remote was loaded with that "grease". I used some electrical cleaner and a paper towel to clean until the towel came away clean.
It worked! My unlock worked but I seem to have to push the button like five times. The contacts looked clean but when I cleaned them the Q- tip was turning black. Thanks.
Cleaned both fobs with contact cleaner. (2008 Silverado) Oily residue on both. Should have done it years ago! LOL World's greatest procrastinator! Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much! My 06 Pontiac G6 has the same fob as your lacrosse does and the unlock button didnt work on either of my fobs, but after doing this, one of them did..unfortunately not the other :( must be a common issue with these factory fobs
What do you do if the FOB was barely working, (but working), and you do this and now it doesn't work at all? Never mind. Maybe the alcohol was still a little wet on the buttons? Not sure, but taking it apart and just letting it sit there for about 2 minutes made it start working just fine. While I was at it, I replaced the battery in it as well.
@@hitandrepair sadly it didn't work. I cleaned both fobs but realized that one has a bad solder on the battery compartment and the other I believe needs new rubber buttons. I don't think they are making a great connection. They will work about 10% of the time
So as long as the positive battery terminal isnt broken inside the remote, buy one from amazon (7-8 bucks) and swap the electronics to the new case w/new button pad, throw away your old case and buttons, will most likely work like new! AND...two minute swap...GOOD LUCK! PS, alot of them come with a new battery too! BONUS!
Nice work. my car alarm control has the same issue. but on mine the carbon or graphite contact is gone . when i cleaned the inside of it, most of the carbon contacts have dissolved. how do i add new carbon / graphite contacts again? thank you
What if it's just not closing the circuit no matter what all other buttons work but not the unlock even tried a peice of tin foil to close the circuit but nothing guess it just time to but a new one and all the other buttons have polarity and resistance but not the one that's not working
This works but electrical contact cleaner is more safe alcohol can damage the electronics yes it works but you can potentially ruin the remote or anything else electronic with alcohol
Never heard of alcohol doing any damaging to electronics. They’ll oxide corrosion, preventing it to go further. 100% of my fixes are geared to home users, who may not have or want to buy contact cleaner.
Well sorry to say it didn't work with mine. I have two,and one opens, but doesn't lock. The second does the opposite. I was really hoping it would work..didn't really want to buy new ones at the dealership.
Larry Garcia Jr you can get replacement cases at auto parts stores for them. Make sure you have the right one that it fits. Mine seemed to have a much better range. The bad part is it could start working too well! LOL The new case buttons can easily be pressed by accident. I've found I accidentally unlocked my trunk and I've accidentally hit the panic button and the horn started honking. I keep my keys in my shirt or jacket pocket to prevent it.
