He is asking for rear and front bushings $1800 parts and labor. I only hear clunk on the front. Anyways, he said parts alone are 800 dollars... Am I being ripped?

In all seriousness him not properly torquing it it down is really not the safest thing to do. It’s ok if you don’t torque other parts of the car whatever but when it comes to the suspension components that’s not ok.

Here's a tip. Find a performance or custom car garage. They usually do absolutely everything in one place. I find they often take the most pride in their work, and are not just trying to get cars in and out as quickly as possible. If you don't know where, ask someone with a nice custom car next time you're at a gas station or something where they get their work done.

@@alpalmer8155 It's a pain on that car. It's located on the drivers side of the engine. You will need to remove the air intake and tie aside the hoses to get to it. Once the intake is removed you will see it poking out. It really can be a pain of a job tho as I said. Maybe best to have a mechanic do it. My best advice, get rid of the ecoboost, and buy another car. Those Ford 1.6 are notoriously terrible.

ball joints and a frame bushings can clunk, but can be hard to test as they often won't make noise and have play unless the weight of the vehicle is on them

@dunebasher1971

It may have been mentioned, but before the front and rear bolts for the new arm are tightened, you should put your jack under the ball joint and jack the suspension up until the car *just* begins to lift off the jackstands (yes, this is an actual factory recommended procedure). That way, you've got the suspension back to normal ride height before you torque the fasteners. If you don't do this, there is a real possibility of the bushings failing prematurely, as they will be put into a bind as soon as the weight of the vehicle is on them.
@MrSoulMonk
@MrSoulMonk 2 года назад
I had to do just that on my 2010 Legacy. The car has body cladding making it impossible to do anything if the wheel is on the ground. I tried the ramps but there was not much clearance to turn the wrench. I ended up removing the wheel, putting the car on a jackstand, loading the suspension by jacking up the control arm under the ball joint until the car lifted off the jack stand ever so slightly (about 2 mm off the jack stand as noticed toward the front of the jack stand support plate). I tightened the front bushing. I hope this did the trick and the bushing is properly loaded because I don't want to replace them anytime soon.

either you got a wrong size ball joint, or you have to push it up further to get in place to bolt on (I use a jack under it to push it up in such cases.) Realize many cheap aftermarket parts are often the wrong size if made in china

In '76, I bought a '75 Chevy Monza from a Chevy Dealer. The car had 12K miles on it and looked brand new. After a couple of weeks, I heard a clunking sound whenever I stopped. I checked the suspension and everything looked fine but I did notice overspray under the hood. I suspect the car had been in a collision.. After 3 years, a friend of mine wanted to trade my Moza for his '68 Vette with a blown engine. We nade the trade but I warned him of the clunk. Eventually, the doors got harder to open so he lifted the car and discovered the subframe was separating from the body.

Oh come on! It's not THAT hard! (I'm being mostly sarcastic BTW) Just did the upper and lower control arms on both sides of my truck, as well as the stabilizer links (bad bushings and joints). Sure, it took a few days to complete, but it wasn't particularly hard. Granted, having proper tools made it a breeze. I remember doing the alternator in my '02 MPV a couple of years ago, and that was a real pain. Had to take apart the passenger side wheel well just to get to the damn part. What should have been a 5 or so hour job, at most, turned into a two day job with help from multiple people.

some people are anal safety junkies, go ahead and put stands on everything. I've been doing it 45 years, never had one fall on me yet. I do use them on long term jobs when really needed though.

I was working under a car and a customer came along and twisted the jack handle lowering the car. Almost lost my head.

you might not have needed them, but your teaching bad and very unsafe practice, what about if someone copies you - does not use a stand and it kills them?

I jacked up a Chevy Nova at a junk yard once to pull the drive shaft... crawled under, had wrong wrench, crawled back out from under car to get the correct wrench.... after I stood up, the car fell...the old jack let go... ... no wheels on the car.. fell flat on the ground....I use jackstands *all the time* now.

Hey Scotty love your videos, I replaced the lower control arms on my 05 Sebring that are the same style as these ( built in ball joint in the front with one horizontal bushing and one vertical bushing) I replaced it as the shop said the ball joint was worn. I also replaced the sway links per your other video. There wasn't any clunking with the old parts but now there is just like this video. Any idea what I may have done wrong? I've triple checked and everything is tight

kind of hard to tell with that wild camera and sound work, but if it happens when turning and accelerating, the cv axles are making that noise, they wear and make noise when turning and accelerating at the same time.

if it's stripped,no socket will fit now. You can buy special sockets to remove stripped nuts though, go to any auto parts store and buy a set, they come in handy if you fix much.

injectors could only suck air if the seals on the injectors where they snap into the manifold are leaking. Spray carb cleaner by the suspected leakers and if the idle goes whacky, that's it.

Hey Scotty any ideas on how to get my old lower control arms off of my torsion bars only want to change because they are getting a little thin from rust and the bushings are bad but the arm will not come off the torsion iv tried tons of penetrating oil and heat a few times. They just won't budge a bit
@scottykilmer
@scottykilmer 11 лет назад
tons o things can do that, sway bar bushings, exhaust clunking, try jacking it up and pulling to make noise. If not, try my video "finding the source of car noises'

Hi Scotty Thanks for doing these videos. They really help out a lot. I have a truck with a clunk. After viewing your video I check the suspension and driveshafts. There doesn't seem to be any play, but it still clunks when I let off the gas, and the trans downshifts. Brought it to the dealer, and they said everything is in spec.. I'm not sure what to do. It's annoying and I need to get it fixed. Truck is still under warranty.

you can always try two hammers, one on each side, but sometimes they just stick too hard. I would have the alignment checked afterwards with a link kit

Anything special about doing this on a 2014 Ford Fusion hybrid? I’ve seen in other videos (not the fusions tho) you have to put the suspension under pressure with a jack to remove it. Doesn’t seem to be the case in this video or the fusions?
