How To - Fix A Creaking Pedal! 

I’ve been riding for 7 months with a ticking that got worse. I honestly believed it was the bottom bracket although I replaced it 8 months ago. I can’t believe this actually worked. So simple a fix. Brah. 3 years since you made this video. Wanna than you. I thought it was my bearings so I took that apart to clean but saw it really didnt need it. Still had problems until your video. Left pedal as well and noise on upstroke/downstroke. Took off and lubed and we good. Thanks again.

I'm so glad to find your video. I had exactly the same "2-clicks" out of nowhere. For a few months, very hard to identify the source of problem as it only clicks when mounted and peddling, if un-mount and used my hand to peddle it doesn't click. The moment that I started turning the spanner the click sounded and I knew that I'm in the right direction.

I kept looking for 'clicking' fixes but now it makes sense. the noise is pretty much identical to what I was getting on my fixie when the chainring bolts had to go. now, on a 2x drivetrain with no chainring bolts, I was confused. this fixed it in literally 5 minutes - thank you!

I had this same noise this morning riding to work. I knew it wasn't the bottom bracket. It got worse as i went further felt a slight vibration in the pedals. Checked my cleats. But i guess only under load will you hear it. Thanks a lot for the video. You're a life saver.

Thanks so much. I just installed new pedals and I was ready to return them but thankfully saw this video first. I used some auto wheel bearing grease and it did the trick. The threads mated somewhat loosely so if it ever happens again I'd consider using blue Locktite.

This actually worked! After a week of dealing with the click, I found out when I was loosing it, that it wasn't tightened as much as it should of been. After tightening it, did a ride and resolved the clicking sound. Great video!

I've had the same exact two clicks appear on my mountain bike, and I was able to narrow it down to my right pedal. I started to take the pedal apart, assuming it was a bearing issue inside the pedal, but came across this video. I decided to give it a try. I am not going to lie, I did not expect it to fix the issue, and fully expected to have to take the pedal apart. To my surprise, after putting some lithium grease on the pedal and screwing it back in, my bike was once again silent. Thank you for the video; saved me hours of frustration! My best guess is the pedal has just enough play in the threads to shift back and forth, making the clicking. The grease either lubricates the joint to get a tighter fit, or fills the gap and prevents the rocking back and forth.

Thanks. Changed my entire drivetrain two months ago, and did not grease the pedal threads. I thought my new BB was already shot.

Shot man. This clicking on my pedal is exactly the same sound and has been driving me nuts. I serviced the cranks think it was that but didn't consider it could just be the pedal threads running dry. Will give it a try. Thanks

Just changed my bb coz of some creaking sound. Take the bike for a ride and after some kilometres it started to make the same sound. Really frustrated. And saw this video. Phew!

My problem is right pedal. The same sound. When I start out, no click. But maybe 10 minutes in, it starts clicking. Due to friction/heat build-up? Anyways I will try your suggestion today. Will let you know results.

my creaking pedal is yet to be fixed. theres a small washer bearing in there that I think is the culprit. I used a table spoon of waterproof grease in the pedal housing and shaft and still creaks? I crushed the bearing a little screwing the nylock on too tight, gonna call giant for help!

It is also my left pedal going to watch the video and try it and i'll report back if it worked or not E: i did it but it still creaks, do i need to add *more* grease bc i put a thin layer on it or do i need to take the pedal apart?

wow so simple i see a lot of lucky people thanking you but unfortunately i did that using finish line grease as describing its for bb/pedals/crank and so many things but nothing bought new pedal also nothing still clicking just in left pedal when i push on it now i am waiting another purchase from amazon to arrive holding my last hope to loosen the crank and bottom bracket to see whats wrong i wish to get the solution its annoying i like to make the bike to be silence i see people look at me once the sound shoot out!! also its annoying to bought things and find out it did nothing and still i need to get more things thats crazy am not us citizen!!!

It went together easily in less than an hour. ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Its crazy how every video suggest that something is wrong with the bottom bracket. So few videos suggest looking at the pedals. $4 of Vaseline and jobs a goodun.

does lubes work as substitute for grease?

So my crank arm literally snapped off in the middle.... So needless to say I've found the cause of the noise.

Tried this, didn’t fix it. Really hope I don’t have to disassemble bottom bracket or headset.
