If your furnace is not working, the light is blinking three times, or you know your pressure sensor switch is causing a furnace failure let us show you a simple way to get your furnace working again temporarily and how to get it working permanently. A Goodman model is shown in our video but this temporary workaround will work for many furnace types.
You can get the pressure sensor switch I shown in this video here:
amzn.to/2EATXfa
Check your model number after you click the link to make sure it works. The part number of the original pressure sensor switch is on the part.
This trick has gotten us through many nights until we got our pressure sensor switch permanently replaced. This is not a long term fix, you should buy a new one and replace it. This is an extremely easy part to replace.

WOW! Thanks man.... I live in Canada, and while winter hasn't set in yet, but my furnace wasn't heating the house today. Saw this video and checked the pressure switch tubing and ports which were clear, then did the hose trick and could hear the valve opening and closing. Put it all back together and bam it worked. Will replace the pressure switch too when the part comes in. Thank you so much!

Thanks - For some who have 3 blinking lights after you replace the switch, you could possibly have a bad inducer fan. I replaced my fan two months ago (bad bearings) and now the switch went. I guess it's planned obsolescence in that everything wears out about the same time. Great video.
@davidding8538
@davidding8538 Год назад
Correct and good advice! Check your inducer fan first, if it doesn't spin at all, it's nothing about the switch.
@daniellarson3068
@daniellarson3068 Год назад
@@davidding8538 I had the three blinking lights again intermittently last Fall when I started my furnace. The furnace would run, shut off the main blower and close the gas valve. The inducer fan never stopped running and would restart the gas and main blower. It did heat the house, but just seemed wrong. I got help with it this time. About $400 later and a new main board and the furnace now has worked fine all Winter. Your message reminded me it's time to change the filter.

This comments is important. My fan was turning, I could suck and push air through the pressure switch tube and it was not worn. I stuck a paper clip in the fan inducer port and switch port and then the furnace lit up. I wish I would have done one before the other to know which was clogged. I think it was the fan though. It had a little resistance.

@@stevewelch9241 Good job - This problem is apparently quite common. I've had a similar problem with three furnaces, my old house, my present house and my mom's house. Oddly enough, I talked to an HVAC guy I bumped into on the bike trail a few weeks back. He said he's had to fix a lot of them with this issue. I have my fingers crossed that my old furnace will make it through this year.

Most of the time if your pressure switch is faulty there's a reason why. Almost always it is not the pressure switch that is the problem. There's a reason why the pressure switch is giving you three flashes on your control board. You have some sort of flu restriction, the entrance to the rubber hose is restricted, the exit to the rubber hose entering into the pressure switch is restricted, and or the hose itself has a hole in it. I would check all these things before you actually replace a pressure switch.

I also took cleaned out the inside of the nipple to the best of my ability? I also reconnected the gray hose back to the inducer fan and disconnected it from the pressure sensor and blew into the inducer (POWER OFF) and didn't feel resistance. I reconnected everything again and still getting the three blinks. Any ideas?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
Hi Bud! As weird as it sounds, sometimes I would have to blow into and suck the air out of it repeatedly to toggle the sensor. Then hook it back up to the inducer nipple. It's not perfect, but it's gotten us the heater working again. This part seems to be a big failure point for these units, so it may eventually just need replaced. Stay warm and I hope this helps!

@surefire07

Good information. Thanks. If GMH80 furnace has running inducer blower but igniter didn't lighted then check pressure switch. Blowing air in out may free up pressure switch contact. I have noticed after years of use some time hose cracks and leaks. Some time even air hose connection nipple on blower may get plugged by rust or dirt and moisture. So use thin wire and clean. Can I assume if igniter lights then inducer and pressure switch circuit fine?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
I want to say you are right. I was told by previous service man that unless the pressure sensor completes it circuit, which is that click, the igniter will not light and your blower will stop blowing. I’ve noticed my hose has definitely worn, and gotten smaller over the years from taking it off and on.

I’m really not sure, but I would put your current part number in an Amazon search and use the closest one. If it’s not right, Amazon’s returns are pretty each. @BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 4 года назад
I have not ever had to do that with ours but tracing the steps of what’s activated and what stops, I think you are on the right track. If the pressure sensor isn’t getting enough pressure to the tube to to the sensor to complete the circuit, the fan will stop blowing. If the fan is not blowing or creating enough pressure to initiate the sensor, i could see it being bad. Could there be any kind of obstruction or build up in the nipple that connects the hose from the unit? If you disconnect the hose from the unit and were to blow inside the hose to the pressure sensor to complete the circuit while the fan is blowing, does the unit run differently? It might sound unorthodox but that would simulate for sure getting pressure to the sensor to keep the unit running and moving to the next stage of heating. If that method doesn’t keep it running for a bit longer the problem might be the board. I’m not an HVAC guy, but a computer guy so my knowledge is limited but those are the steps I would go through to diagnose a little more so I had a better idea of what could be wrong. I hope it helps and you get your heat back soon. Thanks for reaching out!

I have not checked mine system yet, but would like to know if this problem (Goodman Furnace Pressure Sensor Switch) can also be related to the smell of gas, given the furnace is not firing up...? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
If you smell gas, I might be concerned that there is a leak somewhere IF the furnace isn’t trying to start. The coils or the igniter might need cleaned off. I would have cases where the furnace would start, try to light and try to blow but not stay lit and you can get a residual smell of gas that is resolved by cleaning the coils and igniter. That’s my Non-HVAC feedback. If you keep getting a gas smell it might be best to get a professional out.

Talk about stupid, made in Cost Rica pressure switch hooked to the vacuum caused be the inducer motor in the heat exchanger. With a vacuum when switched off, sucks in soot from the heat exchanger, landing on the contacts preventing good contact. While I had the ten year warranty, got tired of waking up to a cold house. So I purchased ROBERTSHAW Pressure Sensing Switch, .25-1.0 WC that has an external microswitch. These can be adjusted to the same water column pressure as the OEM switch. Got tired of replacing these switches, would drive over to my dealer to get a new one, if he came to my home was 150 bucks! Ten years later still work. Live in a country where most people, single passengers are driving huge SUV's and Pickups that suck gas like crazy and in a country that is brighter at night time than daytime with all these lights on, what a huge waste of energy! So what do our idiots in congress do? Eliminated the pilot light claiming that is wasting energy, but more is used in electrical energy to ignite the gas. But the real down side of eliminating the pilot light is electrical losses are far more common, and with no electricity to your home, furance won't work and you will freeze to death.

I actually fixed my switch, here's how I did it (as long as the vacuum part is OK) : First remove the sensor as outlined. The actual switch (where the 2 wires plug into) can be removed, it's held in by 3 plastic tabs, 2 on the side and a small one at the top. Take a sharp knife and remove the tabs, you'll find that they peel right off. Once you have them off, take a pair of pliers and grab one of the terminals and pull the switch out of the sensor, it's held in by 2 tabs inside. Now you can see what the switch looks like, nothing complicated.....just a set of contacts and a spring. Get yourself a spray can of CRC 2-26 Electrical Grade cleaner/lubricate and clean and lube the switch. You can run a piece of paper between the contacts to clean them. Don't remove the CRC 2-26 cleaner/lubricate!!! Pop the switch back in the sensor and at this point you can test it using an ohm meter and vacuum hose, no vacuum to the switch there should be no continuity....vacuum applied should show continuity. Reinstall the sensor on the furnace and see how it is. Hopefully this will help you get up and running when you're stuck with no heat.

I didn't open mine up because could return them to my dealer for a new one, but did after I purchased the Robert Shaws with the soot free micro switches. I knew they would be loaded with soot, common sense that many engineers don't have would verify this. But just wanted to see the soot, Also have an electric burnishing tool to clean the contacts, but certainly not a long term cure. Not even a short term cure. The logic looks for an open contact switch, then times the inducer motor for a closed contact. So you just cannot bypass the switch.

When the furnace turns on, can you feel any air coming out the hose if it’s still hooked up to the furnace?
@sknight0391
@sknight0391 5 лет назад
Bob, With The Power OFF (you don't want to mess up your inducer draft wheel when doing this) so you do not want it to be spinning. Pull the rubber hose off the nipple on the inducer assembly.Take a small Allen Wrench and use it to clean out the rust buildup down inside the nipple. Clean it out really good. Then reattach the rubber hose and you should be good to go now 👍

how did you know which one to get?

I searched the part number on the old one on amazon. If you have the same unit as we do, the part in my description should work. I don’t think the make of the part is that critical. There are a few similar ones.

I steam cleaned my carpet and ended up with water in the pressure hose. Heat is good.

You can run to Amazon?
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 3 года назад
Back when I made this, there was a few Amazon pick up locations around us. If you found this video, I hope your furnace is up and running. Unfortunately, this issue was common with this unit.

@@BrickBuildingKids I wish we had locations like that. I'm waiting on a pressure switch to arrive by mail. Hopefully that solves the problem. The light on my furnace is blinking in way that indicates that is the problem.

@BrickBuildingKids

alexander Delcid it’s not perfect. Sounds like the actual sensor may be malfunctioning and just needs replaced. Usually air flow in and out of that will loosen up the flap inside the sensor.

So if u blow and no clicking then what?!?!?????!!!!!
@BrickBuildingKids
@BrickBuildingKids 5 лет назад
If you blow and suck on that tube and you don’t hear any clicking, it sounds like that sensor is malfunctioning or jammed.

Hi! There is surely a fix in here. The tube that you disconnect, we push air through and from the part to loosen the flap inside the sensor.

im not being a smart ass but i thought the tittle said how to fix a pressure switch but you did explained very well tho. i just had to do the same on my furnace i mean disconnected both wire and blew in the hose to the switch and it worked but maybe for a few days so im going to def order a new one .but sorry if i offended you it was not what i was trying to do . Hope you and the kids are warm sorry again

No worries at all! You for sure didn’t offend me. I just wanted to make sure you saw it. I have had a lot of people skip this video with similar comments in the past. This fix has gotten us through a lot of cold mornings but we’ve ended up replacing the part a few times. There is definitely something with this part that makes the condensation or something built up to make it faulty. Stay warm and thanks for the comments!

It's very frustrating trying to listen to you try to explain this while you're distracted. You'll have much better video quality if you, pause, gather your thoughts, and shoot it again. Just my 2 cents...
