This was a fun, helpful collab with Donut and thank you Craftsman for coming in clutch with overnighting the tools I needed to make the repair! As you guys saw, I have moved to a new driveway and it's been pretty challenging to move over 1000mi away, all by myself. I hope to get back on track with consistent videos in the new place in the next couple months or so. I'm still sleeping on a blow up bed but my tools and cars are here so time to unpack and get the ball rolling. The new place will hopefully allow me to make videos more efficiently so more content for you guys!!! I appreciate all the supportive comments and the continued patience! This year has been a tough one!!! 12:27 Yup, VERY important step. If you ever take the shaft out, clean the old grease as best you can and put new grease in. A lot of people skip this step that could gain them quite a few miles/km from that bearing. If you're already in, do it, even if you have to drop everything and run to the parts store to get the grease. I've heard this story so many times "dammit, wish i'd changed the bearings when i changed the seal" and similar. If the bearing's not shot, just pack it with fresh grease, it does a heck of a lot more than one think.

Hey Chris, glad to see you back. You might want to mention that some axles have C clips instead of bearing retention. For those, you'll need to remove the differential cover first. From there, you can remove the c clips from the end of the axle shafts. These are found on old Chevys for example.

You should make a video on what to do after an accident, like tips on how to make sure the scene is safe, how to speak with the other driver(s), make sure your car is safe, protect yourself from liability, deal with insurance, etc. General advice for small fender benders for people that are just learning to drive, etcetc. I know you can't give advice on how to fix your car after a major accident with injuries/other things, but I think this could be cool. Noticed the slide the wheel underneath tip, and the why behind it. It works. I'm living proof. Was swapping the front axle on my 73 F 250, when I was 19. Mild lift and 40s, 460, 4 BBL, tow truck 5 speed with PTO, and an MP 205 t case. Ended up with a SRW set off an F 350, and wasn't going to pass up the price. Take them. They're yours. My cousin walked in, talking to a friend, and decided to lean against the front fender, while I was setting the axle in the springs, shackle unhooked. Felt and saw the truck rock, and moved to GTFO from under it. Took a decent smack from the bumper and plow frame, broken collarbone, and 3 ribs. Cut on my forehead that peeled back part of my scalp. Because that 16 by 10 rim under the frame on each side held. If a tire is off now, it's under. I also Try to push the vehicle off the stands now, before crawling underneath, no exceptions. Spent a week in the hospital, donated my hair early, as reversing my scalping meant shaving part of it off, and was back in the sho a week later. 3 months of antibiotics as well, and a script for hydrocodone as well. But. It solidly beats being dead. Thanks Chris for always passing that tip along. It was usually what I did, but that day, I was rushing to get the job done, and almost paid for it with my life. For the last 30 years, I've always triple checked every safety item involved in every repair. If i can add anyrhing to that, it's this. Always try to rock your car, on the stands Before starting to work on it. Both times I had one fall, I'd forgotten that step. Got my hand pinned to a tree by my 81 Cadillac, installing new brakes, when I was 17. Ground wasn't level enough. Wind picked up, and it went sideways. Mostly incpnvienient, no major injury, but I found a different working location at my grandparents' place.

Love your videos, you're incredable at explaining things in a simple and straightforward way! A word to the wise; when putting tires back on a car, always try and keep your feet or any part of yourself out from under the car. True it can help lift heavy tires but if it falls you DO NOT wanna be under the vehicle-especially the tires.

One thing this video doesn’t go over is, some axles are held in from inside the differential. It takes removal of the differential cover and slightly taking the differential apart to slide the axles out. The rest is great info, but if someone looks at this video and sees no axle bolts on the back of their backing plate that’s probably why.

i just did 5,700 mile road trip in a 20 yr old truck with 210,000 no problems what's so ever. I went from Ca to Fl via the 40 and then on the way home i did the 10. it took me 2 weeks 2 days. it was so fun and i slept in the back of my truck all the way. I was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe lt Awd witch is based on the truck platform that's why i refer to it as a truck

Hello,my brother recently bought a 2004 ford focus and it is in really good shape it was 2200 euros and for that price point it had 154000 kilometers on it and that really isnt a lot and then we bought some fancs ratcaps to hide the ugly black rims when we tried to put on the ratcaps(which we had no idea how to)my dad cracked on of the ratcaps but we superglued them.the climate is also really good ait heats amd cools really well also man i love your content it gives me so much inspiration and hope😀

I can’t believe that the legend himself has returned. He deserves a cookie 🍪 and a salute 🫡. 😂. In all seriousness your videos helped me in changing my dad’s cars spark plugs. The dealership was charging him $1000 dollars. My dad can’t afford that much money for some spark plugs. I’m 13 and I told my dad no worries. He was skeptical but after convincing him. He told me go ahead. Then watched your video, instead of paying $1000 I payed $100 on some premium spark plugs. You my man, save my ass. 😂😂😂

I don't give a damn about the repairs. But still enjoy the satisfying tutorial with background commentary by Chris.

I had to replace the axle seals on my Ford Focus once. It was a massive pain the posterior. I recommend putting a clean container underneath until you're sure the seal is seated properly because transmission gear oil can be expensive depending on the car.
